- Qatar's Q-Suite business class is considered by most the very best business class flying today. But how good is Qatar's second best business class?
Join me as I check out Qatar's Second Best Business Class on a flight from Madrid to Doha on the beautiful Airbus A350.
This business class flight review will cover my check-in and struggle with Madrid's beautiful airport, boarding, departure, the Qatar business class seat, inflight dining and of course the onboard service from the Qatar crew.

I appreciate you calling out the professional panhandling at Madrid. That definitely should be unacceptable at an airport, or anywhere. Qatar looks simply amazing.
Great video Dennis. We did the same exact flight just before the pandemic, from Madrid to Doha and had to settle with the "2nd best" business class. The crew was so nice on the flight when the cabin manager noticed we were traveling with our son he came and told me to just enjoy the flight and that my son should be his "problem" on the flight. He then went and told my son to look for him and not me or my wife if he needed anything on the flight and flooded him with snacks, games and puzzles. The cabin manager even took some time to play some games with him. absolutely top notch service and Qatar is definitely my favorite airline by a large margin.
Wow what a great service from the crew 🙂
did u send a compliment for the crew. He should know
Absolutely fantastic trip report Dennis, your uploads never disappoint. Also, I find it funny that Qatar’s second best product is still considerably better than some airlines’ best products.
I always love your videos, Dennis. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Cheers!
great to see you back again making in-flight videos! cheers
Dennis, I thought I was the only one who had the same complaints about the Madrid Airport. Was there last year and it was a nightmare (and I consider myself a fairly savvy airport navigator).
Great video, and it's also great to see more of your content. The flight looked great, the "second best" looks far better than some "first best" business class seats. 🥂
Flew on this business class from Adelaide a few years ago. It was fabulous. Then boarded an older A320 to Cyprus. Less good, nut the service was still fantastic. Cheers from Port Hughes.
Love your video's Dennis, always presented so incredibly well and in a non bias or judgemental way. Any aspects of airlines products you don't like you talk about in a non offensive way work no attitude and that is a big plus.
Keep doing what your doing and presenting the way you do.
Hi Dennis, a great review of the aircraft and the airline. The seat and the food looked tremendous, the cabin service as per usual looked out of this world. I agree about Madrid Airport, its not easy to get around.
Keep up the great work.
Kind regards
DS
so good to have you back. thanks for the reviews.
Love all of your postings, plenty valuable information
Thank you very much, Dennis, for sharing your wonderful documentary with us.
I really enjoyed this piece I haven't flown in a long time so it was great to see how things have changed and how much easier it is to fly with all the benefits than the airline provides for you. Thanks again for a great video I look forward to more.
Love watching your reviews
Always a great night when Dennis posts a new video
Dennis,
I agree with you about the extra seat cushion in the lavatory. It really is best for contemplating one's life choices.✈🤔
Your videos are great and informative.
Thanks and keep up the great show.
Thanks for another great video, Dennis! The legend at 14:27 was clearly enjoying it too
Henry
Love your videos… I travel vicariously through you🙏🏼
Thanks for the video, I had an issue previously in Madrid Airport and always thought that it was just down to me! Nice to know that I'm not alone! :)
You're a legend, Dennis. Great report as always.
0:20 great to see your fans become a part of your content
14:30 and 14:42 too lol
Hey Dennis. Great to see your videos again. I’d say though this is the third best Qatar business class. On their news 787-9 they have a normal herringbone layout which kind of have a little suite feel too with a door to each pod. I flew the one you are in here back in 2018 on the 787-8. It was the first and only time I’ve flown any business class on an aircraft. How the others live is crazy.
Dennis as always a great vlog !
Good one Dennis. Always enjoy your reviews.
Pickpockets are apparently all over Spain! Brother got done on arrival for his holiday. They tried me several times over a weekend in Barcelona, but thankfully I'd came prepared with nothing in my pockets to lift. And as a result I've never returned to Spain. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere until the Spanish do something about this problem.
The business class service looked superb.
I enjoy watching your trip report Dennis your the best
Great video again Dennis. I’ve missed them so much greetings from the Netherlands 🇾🇪
Great to see you brilliant as always - Kevin & Cyndy UK
Excellent video once again! Your videos almost make me feel like I’m travelling as well :)
Loved the video Dennis, although when you couldn't find the Madrid lounge at first, i'll admit to a pantomime-esque "It's behind you!" (glad you found it, and agree - it's really tucked away!). I'm flying Qatar for the first time in March and will be trying out that 788 product, so really good to see what you thought of it. It will be the second leg of am LAX-DOH-DUB trip, so might suffer a little for coming straight after Q-suites, but will be good to compare the two. Great to see you back travelling like the "before times!"
MAD can be an absolute nightmare sometimes - however the Sala Velazquez in T4S is good I agree with you. That restaurant only operates in the evening when the majority of IB South American flights depart. Thanks for a great review and glad to hear you're back up and running again!
love your work mate keep it up
Dennis Bunnik, the only flight reviewer I know who makes the bathroom reviews interesting.
Excellent review Mr Bunnik. i love the Joie de vivre the spaniards enjoy
Flew this product aboard the 787 on my first ever Qatar Airways business class flight, certainly brings back some incredible memories seeing this!
Thank you for sharing your flight.
Just started watching this video - I must say you are my Favorite travel UA-camr - my daughter is visiting me and coming to Thailand on Qatar Business class - different route toThailand through Doha and expect will be on this second class Business Class. Interested to watch this video - keep up the great work! Thx Robert
Great review Dennis, Qatar were fantastic when we flew with them, Qsuites are nicer though.
Thanks for the warning about Madrid, we're going through there next year.
My wife and I are doing two Bunnik tours in the next few weeks, very much looking forward to that!
I may sound crazy, but I preferred this business class seat on the Dreamliner as conspired to q suite. Q suite was incredible but I actually preferred how open the seat and cabin felt. Qsuite made me feel a bit cramped
Qatar’s Bait & Switch Business Class, such a bummer - better luck with the mythical Qsuites next time! Fantastic video as always Dennis, I’m glad you still enjoyed it.
Just been at MAD airport and as I was aware that the lounge at T4S is a bit hidden I did manage finding it immediately. One of the best oneworld lounges in Europe in my understanding. Good review of QR A350!
Dam you do a good review as a regular flyer I can’t get over how you cover everything and arr straight to the point. Definitely utilising your reviews for my next trip
The food and presentation of the food looks better than it does at some restaurants! Looked very good. Great video as always!
Another great video. Hopefully one day you will be in Lisbon, Portugal
That was very nice Dennis. I haven’t been on Qatar airlines….maybe a good option now after seeing your presentation. Thanks.
So great to see you back. I've been watching your vt. However I am surprised by MAD security don't stop people asking for money
Completely right about the lagging of correct directions in MAD😕 Was flying Qatar DOH-MAD in their 787/9 last summer and was meeting my girlfriend in the airport. Her first comment when we met was "so chaotic signing in this airport" Thanks for nice review🙂
I have flown with Qatar a few times on A350, 787, A380, 777 etc. and I actually like this business class seat compared to the the QSuite . Yes, the QSuite does give more privacy but this business class seat seems more spacious. Thanks for another great video!
is 777 a fully flat horizontal bed in business?
I flew on that version of the Qatar Airways business class on their 787-8. Not bad.
I've also travelled through that Madrid airport and Dennis is not kidding. It's very easy to accidentally leave the airport and have to re-enter through security. It nearly happened to me, but it's a gorgeous terminal.
Thanks Dennis. Get my jollies watching your fabulous video whilst in my pjs at home. Can’t wait to be back in the air again. You didn’t have the lobster or chocky dessert! So appreciate knowing about Madrid Airport both in its disorganized chaos & panhandlers. 👍😻
Loved your review I wanna do business class with Qatar cheers
Thanks for the great review Denis. I just saw an article on Madrid and Heathrow T5. Design award to Richard Rogers the architect who passed at 88, in Airports of the World. It does not show taxi touts or beggars or lack of directions for users. Yes I would love to fly Qatar. The A350 and its paint degradation is causing headaches for them and Airbus. That giant yellow teddy is enormous. Cheers from Melbourne.
I think he'd had a bad day when he designed Barrajas
Fantastic review
Great ride that Dennis. My son (ex Mr Chimu, now Mr Albatros,) lol, wink, wink and family just flew back in Qatar Business Class from Athens to Sydney, he said it was brilliant. Like your vlogs.
Hi Dennis, great to see a review of Madrid airport. We will be transiting this on our way to the Camino next year; guide to
the lounge will be appreciated. Concerning the beggars, was astonished to see them en mass in Oslo city in apparently organised groups and regularly relieved of donations by their managers! Amazed the EU let's these people roam?!
Looking forward to the return flight to Adelaide video
Went through Madrid last month for the first time and had no trouble finding the lounge in 4S....I did however initially miss the sign in the main terminal for the transit train!🤪 Lounge was such an oasis of calm compared to what awaited me at BA T5 gallery in LHR! Didn't see any beggars, but then I was hand baggage only and went straight through to fast track security after being dropped off. My biggest complaint with MAD was when I arrived and had to pick up an Avis hire car...it took an hour to collect the car in the car park. There was only about 8 people in front of us, but it took forever.
My favorite Australian UA-camr
Great video as always.
It's not the Q-Suite but it's still up there with most business classes.
Madrid is a weird airport with its Schengen and non-Schengen divisions but in multiple trips haven't struggled to find a lounge.
Think I've only flown out of the non-Schengen lounge once, about 5 yrs ago to Moscow, and somewhat weirdly the alacarte food was literally plane food - ie. The same meals from the catering company, heated in an oven on land.
Looks pretty good to me. I am however looking forward to my QSuite flights from Auckland to London in September. It will be an interesting comparison to my recent Singapore Airlines Business Class flights to London on their A350 and 777. But we already know don't we.
You're right Dennis. The business lounge location in Madrid airport is a bit hidden with a very small signage. Can easily overlooked. Flown several times with Qatar Airways with this type of business seating. No complain though, still very good product compare to many other airlines.
I have travelled with Qatar before, business class and loved it. I'm planning to fly to Amsterdam with them again next year
This was useful for me as I will choose Qatar for my next trip London to Sydney (via Madrid) I’ve been told about Madrid Airport by other passengers so I’ll make sure of a good connection time. Thanks for your review.
Great video as always Dennis! I’d have thought this was the 3rd best seat now that there’s the mini Qsuite on the 787-9?
I suppose it is now - look forward to experiencing the new 787-9 product one day.
Cool, I was at the Madrid airport on July 23, flying back home. Was my first time on an APM as my flight left from the M gates.
There was nothing open anymore in that satellite terminal, had I known I would've remained in the main terminal untill 15 minutes before boarding.
Thanks for a great review. This "second best" business class looks amazing. I love Qsuites but wouldn't be sad to have this business class either. I have previously experienced Qatar's "third or fourth best" business class - old 777 with 2-2-2 layout - a definite down grade from the Qsuite I was expecting! However, the on board service and food quality is always 5 stars from Qatar.
Yet another good video might consider travelling with them if we can't fly with Singapore Airlines when we feel like coming to visit Australia or New Zealand again
Thank you for coming back to u tube I enjoy your travels since my wife can no longer travel. When we use to travel I use to buy black luggage and paint in white paint my name address, email and phone number on all 6 sides of my luggage. Makes it easy to find on luggage rack. Your airport transfer drive van spot you easily.
I don't think that there is a second best for Qatar in business class. They provide their best to the passengers.Only the equipment, meaning the plane, changes.Great report Dennis.
Hey Dennis - great video again - I believe you’ll find that not serving alcohol on the ground is not a regulation as such but rather the exorbitant “tax” that QR has to pay on alcohol - EK will not crack open the good stuff on the ground either due to the taxes imposed
Looked very comfy . Would definitely fly it if I could afford it.
Just flew this seat on an A350 last month from Doha to Jakarta. Unlike you I had 12 hour connection time and upgraded to the Al Safwa First class lounge . Amazing experience.
Fantastic ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really like the 350. Would always choose thisbover Emirates.
However if you expected the Q Suites and got the 350 that is a downgrade as that's an amazing experience. That would annoy me, especially myself who would plan the route and the type of aircraft.
Videos are great and helpful to watch. I recently just went on Saudi 787 Business to KL. Very impressed....
All thumbs up!!!
Great video as always Dennis.
We (my wife and I) have Qatar as our first choice when we fly between our homes in Sweden and Thailand. Totally agree with you that Q suite is the best But it's perfectly ok with the second best as well. It's just sad that Qatar changes the type of aircraft on routes quite often. Therefore, when we order, we buy seats 3E/3F (then we get the seats that suit us best in Q-suite). Being able to order the food at the time you want also suits us very well. Qatar has always given us very good service both before, during and after the trip (both when we traveled privately and I for work). I have traveled a lot during my professional life ( 45 years ) Unfortunately the price has increased catastrophically for our next trip ( we are newly retired) So. we have looked at another option to fly back to Thailand in the fall. Thai airway can be an option but I don't think we will get the same level of service. Hope to find a solution so it will be Qatar anyway
We have now flown down to our winter accommodation in Chiang Mai. It became Thai airway. It was the first time in 8 years that we opted out of Qatar airway. So how did our assessment of Thai business class compare with Qatar?
This was a big big mistake. The service, the airplane seats, the entertainment program, the food were significantly worse compared to Qatar. The only advantage was that we didn't have to check the luggage in Bangkok and the beer selection (according to my taste) was beneficial. I'm already ordering tickets for next winter (don't want to lose any Avios points)
If we can't check the luggage directly to Chiang Mai, we can rent a car and drive the last distance home (about 600 km) Still, it's worth choosing Qatar Airway
Super video
Hi Dennis, Madrid Airport is one of the more painful ones to navigate and Iberia is known for hiding its lounges in hard to find places.
The Satellite terminal is only for non Schengen flights, so UK, Americas and Middle Eastern flights and you clear the border on the way in and out just after or before the train.
The Velasquez lounge is OK, but there are also good coffee shops and other eateries on the terminal concourse.
I do think if you were a couple, the not getting the "honeymoon" double seat in Q Suite would be a bummer as the seats in the middle of this aircraft are facing apart from each other.
Another great review thanks for sharing. By the way, any news on when Japan may welcome back tours?
You are my favourite aviator. I lived in Australia 🇦🇺 when I was young. I love you more than Sam. You are down to earth 🌍
0:21 All that sass on the lower left corner 🤣
"Older travellers" - is that some projection on your part? :P Looks like another fantastic QR service.
Great video as ever Dennis. But surely this is Qatar's 3rd best business class? Surely the new 787 business suite is the 2nd best now? Thoughts? Oh and by the way I'm off on a tour of Jordan next month. Your Jordan and Royal Jordanian videos have been getting me in the mood! I'm flying their 787 in Business from LHR, hopefully will be a nice flight! Cheers.
QR is hands down my favourite premium airline
Hi Dennis, those beggers have been there forever. They used to get in the check in lines, carrying bags trying to look like real travelers that just run out of Euros. I remember reading that there is nothing the airport can do about them if they are not commiting any type of crime.
Barajas is my "local" airport and completely agree with you, the first time I went through T4 I got lost and could not find the way out. It is stunning though.
Another great video, and while it isn't a big deal in this case, it seems Qatar switch aircraft types more than most airlines. Still a great product though
Nice
So long as the advertising is honest and not often swapping flights people book as Q suite for reverse herringbone "2nd best", I don't have a problem; indeed the product looked better than what most airlines routinely provide in long haul business. What's to say that QR should install the Q suite on all A350s anyway? Makes sense to have a regional product and a long haul one. Another good video Dennis.
PROFESSIONAL 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I flew in that aircraft type and class just before the pandemic started and it was a magnificent experience. QA always gave great service, even in economy. It's a pity they don't seem to have any great sale fares anymore. I think those days have gone (for a while anyway). I sympathise with the MAD confusion comments. I have only been there twice but both times found it very difficult to find anything.
Great report, someone mentioned for very tall people this reverse herring bone of Qatar is better then a qsuite space wise for sleeping, would you agree ?
Ive had the unfortunate pleasure to travel between London and Dakar, Senegal several times in recent years and usually Iberia is the best option fare wise (and time connection wise).
The return leg from W Africa to Europe usually involves a short overnight flight at an awful time, having done the iberia flight departing at 23:30 and landing at 3:30 in Madrid. It is the only flight that lands at that time and the onward connection to London isnt until 7-8am, meaning I have to kill a few hours in a bare airport. I did find a set of lounging seats to sleep on, no lounge whatsoever is a shame!
Usually Brussels Airlines is my go to considering the long haul flight is long enough to catch some sleep followed by a short hop to London! (and it wont be subbed by 2 narrow bodies after booking the initial flights on an A330 and A350!)
Oh Madrid! Yes, very confusing. My mum flew from Adelaide to Dubai to Madrid to meet me in Madrid. She ended up being told to get on a shuttle bus to pick up her luggage and then ended up in the same spot she started from. Finally, we were reunited but she was very nervous and a bit confused too. From a fellow R'Adelaide traveller (that now lives in Sydney), Love your videos, always check them out when booking flights or have that travel bug!
Would love to see you do adl-akl as the only non stop service between the two places
So agree MAD need to sort the lounge and signs. The amount of pax has complained about that within EU
I flew on this airline (business) and it was so comfy.
Looks great! I wonder fare difference btw the business and this one!
Great Dennis, took Emirates to Sweden but to be honest think I prefer Qatar
I flew Qatar airways business class yesterday and got an unexpected plane change which was unusual on Qatar, but it got changed from the slandered business to qsuite!
Had my non Q-Suite a350 window seat (1-2-1) swapped for an a330 bulkhead aisle seat (2-2-2) DOH-SIN. That's WAY down the rankings! Apparently QR is tops at doing this. Great service though.
