AlfieTheProducer And you know this because of what exactly? Because you heard it from the media... because of course the media has so much integrity. Please... Just stop.
Surely you are not complete perfection.
I swear people can do a ton of good and still be harshly judged over one mistake or a small few.
I would never want to be a celebrity and have every misstep of mine critiqued.
For goodness sakes the man was better than most. Back off.

      From an Italian.
The hand gesture stereotype is true but actually it's something belong to southern Italy.
Maybe the comunication difficulties experienced by the first emigrant exacerbated the thing, creating something that have some "radix" in the former Sicilian Kingdom's population but came out as an answer to something in the New York-Chicago scenery.

Curiously enough, he sounded way more relaxed and affable when speaking in italian. He was alway very humble and nice, but when speaking in english he often sounded much more collected and professional, especially in interviews. When speaking italian he sounded super chill and joked a lot.
I wonder if it had anything to do with his upbringing in Italy and the way he related to people in each country. RIP, he was a great athlete and a nice man.

he gave her daughters italian names, this is one of the best possible homages to his second homeland. Some years ago he went in italy (one of his many times) and reached the address of his old babysitter when he was a child, ringing the bell making her a suprise, without announcing himself before. I am italian. I was not a Lakers fan.
    I grown up watchin NBA.
I am a knickerbocker since Pat Ewing.
But I was also a great fan of Kobe Bryant. When he was 12 or 13 he went to my village for a basketball match. He splept in one my friend's house.
He learned a lot from our culture. The passion. Do things the best you can.
Italy is not an easy country. And for me, in my forties as Kobe was, Kobe was not only an NBA superstar.
He was the American Dream. If one black boy from Reggio Emilia can be the greastest player of his generation, man... Every Dream can came true.
Excuse me for my English. I would like to speak english as good as Kobe spoke italian. I don't want to be offensive or hurt anybody, so if my words could be felt inappropriate, please do trust me, it's only a misunderstanding due to something lost in translation.
The City Major of Reggio Emilia will dedicate the square in front of the Basketball Arena to Kobe. In Italy we do that only for people who was very important.
It is the highest honour we could give.
Every time Kobe spoke in Italian, it was extraordinary fluent and also "slangish".. He spoke italian as an average italian guy. The same jokes.. For example.. The three point buzzer beater shoot in Italy the TV speaker could say "La bomba! non va! Fischi per lui..." (The bomb! miss! Shame on him!)
I remember that during one match Kobe was live commenting during ASG in 2001 in Italian using italian words. The same words an italian guy would use commenting one match from his own sofa..
Always smiling. Always living with typical italian "Passione".
Almost any Italian basketball fan think about Kobe as "one of us".
We truly think Kobe was an American guy Italian grown superstar.
"Designed in USA but Made in Italy".
In Italy now we have a lot of troubles. It is useless to be in denial.
Kobe was the dream. If you can make it from here, you can make it everywhere.
The dream that if you work a lot, if you follow your dreams, everything is possible. The sky is the limit.
Kobe was the american dream in italian flavour.
    Now the dream is over.
That's the reason why I can't stop myself from crying.

Ironically his wealth and success ultimately led to his early demise. His wealth allowed him to open the Academy, which he located kinda far from his house. So he commuted via helicopter, which his wealth enabled him to do. So he was commuting to a hilly area in a helicopter... add in some fog, which is not uncommon in SoCal... and you have a very bad mix of ingredients.
I wish he would have set up the academy in Irvine, which was nearby his home. Then he probably would have drove the big SUV.
