NOTES (not done with AI lol) *step one: braindump/brain vomit document* _step one a:_ braindump everything you can think of about your story in bullet (dot) points. think about characters, the plot, the premise; just everything you can think of, even if you know it won't go into the story. _step one b:_ go to the top of your doc and write down some information about your story like the project name (you can come up with a cute project name to make it more fun), genre, vibes/themes you want to include, your estimated word count (length), and a short summary or basic premise. try to keep the premise fewer than five sentences. _step one c:_ organize your document so that it's easier to continually update throughout the writing process. for example, you can separate it into sections for characters, scenes, settings, the magic system, and quotes. this allows you to keep the messiness of brainstorming while keeping your ideas for different story elements separated. *step two: place-plot* list possible places/settings where things can happen, and see where your imagination and the story take you from there. since your characters need to be moving in your world and the story needs to happen somewhere, this can be really helpful for visualizing your story and connecting different events as well as coming up with new ones. think about what can happen in a certain place, like how it could be connected to another plot point, or how the character(s) react to where they are. *step three: zero draft* your zero draft is your story told to yourself using short sentences. to begin, make a new Google Doc (or any document) and make a table with two columns titled "chapter number" (or name) and "draft". write what happens in each chapter or scene with bullet points and use short sentences to just get the story and ideas down on the page. you can focus more on action and dialogue here rather than internal monologue. just think about telling the story to yourself and making it easier to write the first and subsequent drafts later. *step four: the first draft* you're now ready to write the real first draft! create a new document and split-screen it with the zero draft or have the zero draft nearby, like on a tablet for example. then start writing the story using your zero draft and other notes and brainstorming as guides. the first draft is where you can make more fun, creative decisions and really let your description and characters' voices shine. Thank you so much for this video, Ana! It is really helpful and kind of erased a lot of my doubt and fear of starting something. I'm inspired/motivated to write now! I love your videos on how you plot/outline so a suggestion I have is to make more videos on how you plot and outline? Like the way you "pantser-plot" your zero draft or maybe you could try place-plotting a small story as an example of how it can be used? Idk but I think it'd be cool. Anyway, thank you for the amazing videos you make and I hope you take care of yourself! It's hard for me to take care of myself a lot of the time but I've been working on it. :)

I don’t think it’s narcissistic, for me, I have a macabre train of thought and I like darker things. I’m a very honest person. I also like poetry and song writing I tend to write darker things. People don’t usually understand it. There is this stigma that if you’re in the darker side, you’re mentally unstable. I personally think it’s more of a 2 types of people scenario. Thanks for all your awesome writing videos they help me so much! :)
It’s my dream to become a professional novelist and artist, it’s my passion, I started creating many different fantasies in my head at a young age. I’ve built entire worlds and I have no idea what to do with them, I’m glad I found your video, it helped me a lot! ❤
Im a young begginer writer, your videos help a lot :] i wrote about 11 chapters of my first book a few months ago, but ditched it at some point.. a few days ago i decided i dont like what i wrote so im starting over! I just started my 2nd chapter lol After learning about writing a bit, I like what i wrote now a lot better thanks to your videos!
having a background can be helpful so it isn't stress or taking too much time just staring on wtv you're writing on. But yea, it is a bit of a wait before actually writting.
This video was perfection. I was really struggling, wondering how to start writing the book and in what order. This made the process seem really simple. Thank you for breaking it down into steps to follow. Great work. I've wanted to write a book for ages, but due to personal reasons and my writing knowledge was from school and it's been a long time since then aha.X
You’re absolutely right about wearing reading glasses it shows your highly educated and shows your working on a project that shows that you better yourself and encourage others to do the same especially if you’re in the process of writing books for people seeking change to better themselves in life and and when they read your books and it’ll inspire them to be a better person and to encourage them to be creative with ideas
I finally finished developing the idea I had for a story at 12 - it’s changed a LOT, not even the same as it was at the start except for a few aspects, and I had nowhere to start writing and I felt so lost and I came across this video and now I have a prologue!!!! tysm!!!!!
aaaa thank you for this!! I'm planning on making a webtoon for a story I've had in mind for years but I really struggle to make a proper plot. So excited to finally sit down and plan out this story!
Wow.. this is so great. I can’t explain how much I love your approach.. the structured way, esp The Zero Draft. Thank you for shining light over my dark path of writing my first book.
Thank you SOOOOOO MUCH I’m currently working on a book about some disasters that happen but I keep getting stuck on what to write but this helped a ton Thank you ❤
I replayed the section where you mentioned, “Place Plotting” about 10 times!! I just LOVE that idea! I can already see my stories coming to life & unfolding in such a super easy way even though I haven’t even written anything yet. Thank you, Ana neu for being such a GENIUS!!!
It’s so true when you know the beginning and end but the middle part is just a jumble of ideas and having to move the characters to one place to another to get to the end is extremely difficult. Thank you 🙏
I just turned 13 and finished my thriller/romance book and I never thought I would be good at writing because my dream is to be a police officer but I think I’ll pick up both careers Edit: I just started a romance book recently, I’m on chapter 34 and Ik I won’t publish it but wtv
Thank you for taking the time to share your process. I have been “jotting” my chapters and plot at random as I have time or the desire hits me. Being late 40’s and wanting to write. I decided now is the time. Thank you
I’m writing a book right now, and I definitely have places I can improve. I get so embarrassed by it, and almost end up wanting to scrap the whole idea, but then I remember this: A part of editing is reading the whole book, and rewriting it until its perfect to your liking. It almost ALWAYS keeps my going, and it just makes me so excited for the future of the book.
Im never ever gonna write a book because im just not skilled enough but this helped me get the story I had in my head for years mapped out on paper. so thank you sm for that
Thank you so much for making this video you have helped me so much with my writing. I have never been able to write and finish a book before. It has been my dream to become an author and finish writing a book and then publish one. With this method of planning out the book I have hope and believe that I can finish my first book and publish it! Thank you so much!
Hi Ana, I've always had an interest in stories whether it be from movies, video games, and even books. After years of contemplating if I could ever write, I've decided I actually want to give it a shot. I'm starting out researching how one even begins such an endeavor and I have come across your video. So far I like your way of thinking, so thank you for this video! To say the least, it looks very daunting and intimidating, but this will be the first time I have tried anything in life that isn't video games. LOL! Thank you again.
Hi Ana, thank you for sharing such invaluable tips and insights! Your friendly and engaging delivery made it feel like we were having a cozy chat over coffee. Keep those amazing vlogs coming, you're making the writing world a brighter place! 🌟
I’ve been writing since I was a teenager and never thought to outline 😂 I’d just write scenes on paper and try to put them together when writing in a doc now that I’m actually looking to get published im going to actually try plotting thank you for this ❤
I'm a year late here but I'm so glad I discovered your video! I'm a 26 year old freelance illustrator and have been wanting to find my niche elsewhere, and learning writing has been my most recent hyperfixation. I've been trying to just do it all on my own with no guidance outside of Google but not knowing where to start has been killing that drive. I have a whole lot of nonsense written for two stories that I switch back and forth between. I really love how you organized your methods here, my ADD brain appreciates it 🥰
i have a very bad habit of just *starting* before working out the finer details, and run into a wall after chapter 3 and stay there- this really helped!! thanks ana!!
This is getting me so excited to write my Nanowrimo project :) having an actual process and list is what I've been missing, with so many projects just wasted because I didn't have direction on how to continue them. Thank you x
Seeing people comment that they have started writing books at 12 and 13 has inspired me. I've always loved english. Now that I see people around my age doing it, I have the courage to do it myself. So thank you to all the people who commented their experience. You've helped me feel more capable! Have a good rest of your day or night!!!!
Ana you don´t know how much you´ve helped me with that video! 😭 I always think about my story idea and characters etc. and how much I wanna write this book but I just don´t know how to start or even plot it. While watching this video I got so many ideas how I could start and it´s like someone turned on the light in my head. Thank youuuu!! 💕✨
wow, this is such helpful advice! I always knew the beginning and end of stories when I first drafted them out but I never knew what to put in between. the idea of thinking of places where the characters could go is going to really help me out, so thank you!
I’ve noticed that when writing books it’s a similarity of essay writing from the thesis by the argument layout of a well organized essay by state your main idea make sure your verb endings agree and most importantly you learn that punctuation is very important especially preventing run ons is basically it goes on to the next sentence at the time your reader would get out of breath because of no punctuation for them to pause to catch their breath
I LOVE YOU , YOU ARE THE BEST , JUST THE MOMENT I GAVE UP ON WRITTING MY NOVEL U GIVE ME HOPE TO CONTINUE , THE STEPS YOU MENTIONED WERE AMAZING AND SUPER BRILLIANT, JUST WANNA SAY THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING VIDEO
I’m in the process of starting book one to a series for years I daydream as an escape from reality or to help me sleep. One day I was sharing with a friend my dream story world and she told me that would be a really great fantasy series and requested a riff draft to read. So here I am looking step one. 😂 a little nervous to share the day dreams and imaginary story I have had playing in my head for a decade but here we go.
Tysm for this video it helps me so much when I’m trying to write a story. Before this when I have an idea I kind of just wrote down that once specific scene but I always ended up getting bored of it or forgetting about it and I really regret that because as I look back I realize that some of them could become good books so again tysm for this it really helps me keep organized
This is really helpful, as a child. I always wanted to be a novelist, and my short stories were always wildly praised (my literally just my parents and teachers), but I never did anything with it. Now I’m 26, and this year I have been fired (illegally but I can’t afford a lawsuit), dumped by my fiancé, and more recent health complications I can’t afford. I guess if there is a good time, it would be now between doordashing and job hunting I Just have a tough time with the plot. I know I have the ability to make something come to life, but I don’t have the story I need to tell yet. And all the advice I get says don’t force it.
Is anybody interested on story writing?? This video helped me so so much! I am 14 years old and despite my dyslexia, I love reading one of my dreams is to write a book yet I didn't know how to start one or how to make a good one because I felt like my last idea was a flop. Thank you for this ❤❤
I'm 14, and I have been SO intimidated by the idea of writing a book, that I never got to it. Like, just on a whim, I made a quick decision to just start right now. Though, I can't wait to see how this unfolds. I'm sure it will be a wonderful journey. My mother really wanted to write a book and has been planning her whole life to write it, so I hope by my writing of my own book, she will find inspiration to finally start it. Thank you!!! 💖💖💖
I write for fun, and haven’t been particularly adamant. Because my writing can be a bit crazy, i can’t seem to completely run with one idea. So thank you, this helps!
Will be writing my second book. Published the first one years ago and had my 4th child after, felt lost or not sure if what I did before still works now. Your video is helpful and so validating because I just got serious with my journaling as my Brain Vomit, with high hopes that I can grab my book content there later on. :) Thanks!
Another thing! if you know it'll take more than a day to write the ideas, plot, Etc., Set a timer of a goal for how long you write every day instead of doing it for hours and burning yourself out, if you do you just won't want to write it anymore. i do fifteen minutes and do more if i think i can, like add seven minutes, and stop early if i stop wanting to write, so i don't get burned out.
I’m trying to write my 1st book and every idea or conversation that come to my mind, i write it in my phone note so do not let any idea out. Write them all maybe you will need it
I'm 15 years old, started writing around 12 like most of us who've an experience of writing cringe books when we were young LOL! Even though i started writing at 12 it was mostly fanfictions and OF COURSE on Wattpad. But throughout the years I've improved a lot in every aspect of writing and I got a lot of hype on my ffs too which encouraged me to continue writing. Although, when i actually started reading published novels, my mind immediately changed to writing my own novel one day because i wanted to come up with my own characters, character names, etc. After a ton of thinking i decided to close my ff account and made a brand new acc for novel writing. I've been planning my novel for over a year and half now and now that I finally want to start writing it, i thought some tips from writers might make this a little easier for me. ❤
THANK YOU!!!! Well im a kind of artist and i wanted to write a comic story sooo bad but i was confused where i can start because i have Alot of ideas and i didn't know how to organize them, but thanks to you i can now si can finally write my first story
Love the vid! been a while since I've had time to watch a vid so im catching up lol. but you seriously need to make a vid on how to do eyeliner like i recently started wearing it and one side is too long and on the wrong angle and the other is too short and going down lol. please make a vid i need to learn!!!! tyss
Decided to begin a writing journey at 11, now I’m 13 and just starting. (Procrastinating is my main extracurricular activity). To other young writers, I wish you the best!
I'm going to start writing my book today. an incredible story I didn't have the courage but it's time to talk aboutwho they are, why they invited me to a terrible event and much more.
This was extremely helpful, thank you. I am absolutely terrible at organizing my thoughts and ideas and I am excited to try this new system. thank you!!!!!!!
These are great ideas. I definitely want to try plot placing. I've been working on a book series and my characters time travel, and I'm always having trouble coming up with ideas on what kind of places to send them when they travel through time.

i started writing my book the other day and im ready on page 34 you helped me so much
It’s my dream to become a professional novelist and artist, it’s my passion, I started creating many different fantasies in my head at a young age.
I just started my 2nd chapter lol
After learning about writing a bit, I like what i wrote now a lot better thanks to your videos!
I've always been taught this 3-step method to writing a novel:
#1. Write
#2. The
#3. Book
having a background can be helpful so it isn't stress or taking too much time just staring on wtv you're writing on.
Thanks
I'm only on the first step but I already feel empowered and ready to write, thank you so much Ana 😁
Omg same! I wish you luck!! 🍀
A webtoon sounds cool :0 I was interested in doing that but I struggle with drawing 😭 good luck tho ❤
Wow.. this is so great. I can’t explain how much I love your approach.. the structured way, esp The Zero Draft. Thank you for shining light over my dark path of writing my first book.
Thank you SOOOOOO MUCH I’m currently working on a book about some disasters that happen but I keep getting stuck on what to write but this helped a ton Thank you ❤
I replayed the section where you mentioned,
“Place Plotting” about 10 times!!
I just LOVE that idea!
I can already see my stories coming to life & unfolding in such a super easy way even though I haven’t even written anything yet.
Thank you, Ana neu for being such a GENIUS!!!
This is so freaking helpful. Thank you so much
It’s so true when you know the beginning and end but the middle part is just a jumble of ideas and having to move the characters to one place to another to get to the end is extremely difficult. Thank you 🙏
I just turned 13 and finished my thriller/romance book and I never thought I would be good at writing because my dream is to be a police officer but I think I’ll pick up both careers
Edit: I just started a romance book recently, I’m on chapter 34 and Ik I won’t publish it but wtv
I think you can do it I wish you the best of luck! 😊

Thank you for taking the time to share your process.
I have been “jotting” my chapters and plot at random as I have time or the desire hits me. Being late 40’s and wanting to write. I decided now is the time.
Thank you
Like if you are a legend who saw at 0:05 she said full-proof instead of fool proof 🎉
I’m so glad that thought helps you! It’s truly a marathon, not a sprint. ✨🤍
I’ve been requesting this one! THANK YOU SO MUCHHH 💕
I really needed a video from yu in this topic?! I can’t wait to watch 😊
The zero draft tip just solved 99 of my problems
Hi Ana, I've always had an interest in stories whether it be from movies, video games, and even books. After years of contemplating if I could ever write, I've decided I actually want to give it a shot. I'm starting out researching how one even begins such an endeavor and I have come across your video. So far I like your way of thinking, so thank you for this video! To say the least, it looks very daunting and intimidating, but this will be the first time I have tried anything in life that isn't video games. LOL!
Thank you again.
Probably the best writing advice on how to start I've come upon so far! Can't wait to see what else I can learn here! Thank you
I finished the first draft of my book recently and I didn't know what to do next until I found this video. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Hi Ana, thank you for sharing such invaluable tips and insights! Your friendly and engaging delivery made it feel like we were having a cozy chat over coffee.
Keep those amazing vlogs coming, you're making the writing world a brighter place! 🌟
Ana? If ur reading this ilysm. Your literally one of my favorite people and I haven’t even met you! You have given me the courage to write.
I’ve been writing since I was a teenager and never thought to outline 😂 I’d just write scenes on paper and try to put them together when writing in a doc now that I’m actually looking to get published im going to actually try plotting thank you for this ❤
I think the zero draft is going to be a life saver
I’ve been trying to find a plotting method that works for me for soooo long and this is absolutely perfect. You’ve given me hope, thank you! lol
Thank you x
”Place Plotting” has caused me to SUBSCRIBED to your channel of brilliance!!!
Adding FOOLPROOF to something where any method of putting words to paper and then editing them is valid made my day lol
So did you write it?
Starting to write a book at 11! Great help through this video!
wow, this is such helpful advice!
2:38 for start
Thanks! 😊
I'm excited to watch another one of your amazing videos!
I guess if there is a good time, it would be now between doordashing and job hunting
I Just have a tough time with the plot.

I hope to become a Author or somthing to do with writing one day! I love books, reading, and writing.😄
This sounds so fun to do, I've tried to write a book but I'm all over the place... Gonna give this a try!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
I can't even get past my first chapter lol
But with these tips I think I can get past the first chapter. Thanks!
I’m trying to write my 1st book and every idea or conversation that come to my mind, i write it in my phone note so do not let any idea out. Write them all maybe you will need it
Lmao I know I'm late but I am currently writing a book at 13 years old, I came to this video for tips, Thank you :D
Thank you so much I've never thought or heard of place plotting very useful
Endlich mal etwas, dass neu ist. Danke.
THANK YOU!!!! Well im a kind of artist and i wanted to write a comic story sooo bad but i was confused where i can start because i have Alot of ideas and i didn't know how to organize them, but thanks to you i can now si can finally write my first story

Love the vid! been a while since I've had time to watch a vid so im catching up lol. but you seriously need to make a vid on how to do eyeliner like i recently started wearing it and one side is too long and on the wrong angle and the other is too short and going down lol. please make a vid i need to learn!!!! tyss
This was super helpful for organising my ideas and visions. Thank you so much, and keep up the good work
Decided to begin a writing journey at 11, now I’m 13 and just starting. (Procrastinating is my main extracurricular activity). To other young writers, I wish you the best!
I'm going to start writing my book today. an incredible story I didn't have the courage but it's time to talk aboutwho they are, why they invited me to a terrible event and much more.
Me being broke as f, without a laptop, writing a book from my phone😭
Me too
How you are writing from phone pls tell me i too want to start
Omg thank you! I’m only 12 but I have a story I want tell, this has helped me so much ❤❤
Same but I am 13 :)
I know you will get there!
i really enjoyed this but i love how this feels so nostalgic like 2015 tutorials
Omg I can’t thank you enough!!! This helped me actually start finally!!! Thank you!!! 🥰
Thanks!!!….great vid!!!…I learned a lot!!! (Other vids elsewhere had overwhelmed me with frustrating waffle 🤪…you are so clear and concise 😃👍)
