    That's a lot of acorns planted. With the amount of seeds you germinate each year you could start your own nursery in the backyard. :) I also enjoy germinating seeds.
    That desert rose is very nice. I hope it recovers soon.

    If you can find a flight canary cage, you can place the acorns in the cage and the squirrels will not be able to get to them. Once separated from the nut, then bring them out. I bet you could make a nice cage out of chicken wire also.

    Oooooh 😮 so many acorns! I'll definitely do the same tho, i lost too many of my young oaks to spider mites. I have probably only 3 living from the 19 that sprouted in January.
    The squirrel will thank you for the dish 😁

    Love the desert rose that Jay gave to you. It is a rare color for that plant so take good care of it. There are a few nurseries in south Florida that produce many hybrid varieties of adeniums. So many beautiful colors other than pink/white flowered. The deep purple flowers are prized down here. May this plant thrive under your care. Nice looking little ming aralia! How nice to see that those acorns have germinated. I have a few Chinese Wisteria that have germinated and will get potted today. I use the root maker pots for cuttings. They work fine with potting soil. I have found that the cuttings grow roots more quickly using these pots.

    Wwwow that is a lot of acorns!
    But none of them are Pyrenean oaks 😉 so I will send you a few of these seedlings as soon as the leaves drop. Just starting to turn yellow now, autumn seems to have come late this year. I'll also send you a couple of holm oak seedlings.. of course these are evergreen so fingers crossed they survive the journey.

    I got lucky with my oak acorn I grew over the winter. It had stopped growing in March and didn’t do anything through the first half of summer, so I thought it was just waiting for winter. Then in late July it went through a crazy growth spurt and went from about half a dozen leaves to almost 30 leaves. I think I lucked out and got a genetically vigorous tree. It’s leaves haven’t turned yet, but the new growth has been hardened off since September.

  • @MrJcalvino

    If you accept a suggestion I recommend you cutting the tap root 2 times before new leafs sprout to developer a radial structure. The first one you have to wait a little longer that the stage your acorns are right now so little roots have time to develop on the base of the taproot. The second cut is a bit trickier on the timing so you have to dig up the acorn (No leafs yet) and see it by yourself. That doesn’t bother the roots. Normally in that second cut you will see that it develop another tap root that take over the energy supplied by the acorn, cut it and refine the other roots near the base of the acorn. The next spring when the plant sprout won’t growth too much during the season but the root system is nearly perfect for future life of the bonsai.
    Cheers and excuse my english 😅

But I like her it is nice and fat ))) but you have to water her in summertime more you don't water your suculents so much and she need watering like normal tree.
    GL with her. I hope I'll see her in videos.

    what a wonderful addenium! i love mine, which is much smaller(!), especially given that i nearly killed it a few times. but now we get along just fine. fyi, if you search the internet for acorn varieties, there are lots of varietal picture maps to help you identify them. apparently, there are people who just collect acorns for display. thanks for a really interesting video Nigel!

    Nigel, That is a fantastic adenium. Did they say how old it is? I keep my adeniums on my basement entry steps. Not real warm and not real bright then put them back outside in the spring when it gets above 40 degrees F and no more frost. I don't water them over the winter and your trunk looks plenty full of water for the winter. Good luck with it. I would like to have a few of those acorns too!! Great video.

    Hi Nigel, I find it interesting that your local royal oak was bearing heavy this year. The native royal and sessile oaks in my area weren't bearing any fruit at all this year and I couldn't find a single acorn in the forest near my home. I enjoyed the rest of the video very much as well, cheers from Germany

    • @JScarper
      @JScarper 2 роки тому

      I'm not from Europe so I may be mistaken, but don't oak trees have something called mast years, where all the trees in an area don't bear fruit for several years before suddenly bearing a lot all together?

    • @gartengeflugel924
      @gartengeflugel924 2 роки тому

      @@JScarper Yes you are correct on that, but as far as I understand in between those years of excessive fruit production are years of acceptable but way lower production. What baffled me this year is the total absence of acorns across at least two species of oak in my area. A possible cause could be that we hit a record winter low this year, followed by a cool spring and summer.

    That Delonix regia looked really sad. I have one rooted trough the drainage holes into the ground that grew to 2 m in less than a year from seed. But yeah, in my climate they can grow incredibly fast so easy for me to say. Have you tried the dwarf Ming aralia 'snowflake'? They make excellent Bonsai and are also extremely easy to propagate trough cuttings.

    "In space no one can hear you scream" How do you think light moves in space? Is sound cannot move from it's source to the observer, how can light? The two (light and sound) are both two aspects of the same (electro magnetiic spectrum).

    • @Thimbrethil
      @Thimbrethil 3 роки тому +1

      Well about that. Light is bought particle and wave. Particles of light are called fotons.
      Sound on the other hand (is not electromagnetic wave) it’s mechanical wave. Particles of medium you’re in are conductors for sound wave. In space density of matter is so small, there is no sound. If you want to know more I reckomend Kyle Hill channel. He does everything science related.

    • @operationaltactics1006
      @operationaltactics1006 3 роки тому

      @@Thimbrethil Religion ;) No experiment EVER has proven light is a particle and it's against all logic. Sound is light is heat. All parts of the same spectrum. One is what the others are. Do you actually BELIEVE (as in religion) particles are coming out of your monitor and hits you in the eyes as you watch this video? Do you not realize how ridiculous that notion is? If you ad energy to an object it will first heat up, and as you increase the level it will then start to make a sound and then it will start to emit light. I think you should go look at the electromagnetic spectrum again and ask yourself; why is only a small part of it particles while the rest is (just) waves...

    • @Thimbrethil
      @Thimbrethil 3 роки тому

      @@operationaltactics1006 I don't need to believe, when I know.You need to get deeper into physics than just look at one simplified graph, you know. Anyway, I don't want to get into a quarrel with you, on this nice channel, where we all came to relax. I will go leaving behind just two questions:
      1. If light is the same thing as sound, why vacuum windows silence up all outside, on in side noises, but let light through the vacuum between sheets of glass?
      2. If light works the same way as sound, and we receive light from the Sun, why we don't get any sounds from it? Believe me, distance, when you have so massive object as the Sun, constantly fusing atoms, is no problem, just as it is not for light. In other ways, if what you're saying is true, we should be able hear Sun perfectly.
      But you don't have to ponder on this matter, if you don't want, you know. Simple answers are simple, and not thinking and asking questions is perfectly okay, and fine. We live in, mostly free world, and we all have right to choose not to be educated.
      With love
