One thing people should keep in mind with Beauty Secrets Barbie and Christie dolls is that after 45 years, those wrist and elbow joints can be very fragile. They are often found with busted elbows and missing hands. To be fair though, they were pretty fragile back in the day too. I had THREE copies of this doll as a child, she was available for several years, and every time I broke the doll I had to get a new one because I loved her so much. Now of course I have a bunch of copies of this doll, most are pristine, but I treat them very gingerly when posing the arms and hands. I have the platinum polypropylene version, but most of mine are Saran. I also have several Beauty Secrets Christie dolls, and I'm even more careful with those. They are such beautiful dolls, and I think they look amazing in early 80s fashions, as long as the camouflage the shoulder joint, lol. I always hated how her bare shoulders looked.
My sister and I both got this doll for Christmas in maybe 1980. I also had that Barbie Corvette in the commercial at the end of the video! I loved it even after the "remote control" part stopped working.
You really know your craft! She is looking wonderful now. I also have my Beauty Secrets Barbie and little by little I have been getting her outfit together. Bought at a flea market!😁continue your videos always looking forward to them!
Great restoration! Must try that trick with the straightening iron on the hair! I also love Beauty Secrets Barbie (And Christie!) and I also have a history with her. I got her for my 10th Birthday back in 1980, and it was the 'Pretty Reflections' version with the three-way mirror. (Maybe Australia was different but yes, she was only available as a department store exclusive over here. I got her at a big department store called Myer in the city, which is kinda like your Macy's in the States.) I now have two, and one was actually the convention gift at the very first official Barbie convention in New York in 1980. (It's the same as the usual version, but she has a sash that says '21 years of Barbie' across her chest! She's NRFB and staying that way, as there are apparently only 150 of her in the world.) I also have another one that I bought MIB and she's the one I display and dress. I also have Beauty Secrets Christie that was also MIB and she's also in her box (but I have taken her out for photography and dressing and such! Who could resist?) Aren't the box illustrations something else? And I totally agree with you on looking after your dolls. I keep some in the box but others get a good cleaning and some are bought specifically for restoration and those 'spa days' when I clean them up and redo their hair and stuff are SO much fun! All those Judgey Janies are missing out on that and yes, the 'bonding' that happens when you bring a doll back to 'life!'
This doll is sooo cute! I actually never knew about her so I'm kind of shocked! Thankyou for the very informative video and as always it was so fun to watch! :D
OH MY GOSH I literally ordered a beauty secrets barbie like a month ago because you showed yours in a previous video!!! I have the golden saran variant and I love her hair so so much. LIVING for your makeover!!! 🩷💕
I will probably go to dolly hell ( please don’t hate me ) although I’m a hardcore Superstar Era fan , I’ve always found this doll a little ugly. Those shoulders and that hair… especially the bangs. I can’t. I still enjoyed the video and your amazing restoration skills 💖
I have three beauty secrets barbie, but one of them is on a straight arm type body no button on the back not sure if her head was rebodied or if she some kind of original. I also have that car 😂.
I love these dolls, I live for the little accessories. I have mine from childhood and she was a hand-me-down from one of my older sisters so she is well worn, missing hair plugs scraggly hair (I think mine is Saran), and her hands have broken off! I’ve debated glueing her hands back onto the joints but then her hands will be stationary, any suggestions for replacing the hands completely with some other hands from another line or company or off a website.
I remember wanting this doll as a child but was disappointed because I was at the age where it expected that I supposed to stop playing with dolls and focus on becoming an adult.
