    what i great review! i'm a bit sad about the physical dials but i've been drooling over the GFX 50 when I saw it firsthand at photokina germany. now i have decide to splash down for the GFX100S.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  3 роки тому

      I prefer physical dials, but I can definitely get use to the GFX100S and its button and virtual-dial set-up. Not ideal but ultimately it can be functional.

  • @Reddepex

    I guess the D-Pad is history. Experiencing the same lack of programmable buttons on the X100V. Also not using the touchscreen for functions. Maybe because it is not responsive enough, maybe because it takes away from the physical experience in some way. Love the combination of the ISO button and Shutter button though. Which on larger camera models would even be possible for Fujifilm to expand with a second ring on the base for photometry setting, like on the XH-1. And also a bottom ring on the exposure compensation dial? Would be nice.
    And while I'm at it, please Fuji, an X camera with a three way screen, like on the XH-1. It is really helpful to have the screen lined up with the lens. So maybe extend the difference in video and photo cameras? I love my X100V for landscape and street. Using my XH-1 for macro. Currently waiting for the Canon R7 for wildlife, but willing to buy a Fuji if available. And yes Fuji, I happen to like primes for wildlife, like a 400mm 5.6 is excellent and cheap (Canon L example), 600mm FF equivalent is good enough :)
    I guess what they are doing with the PSAM dial is to win over other brands customers. But it will also be an easier decision the opposite way... People in the Fujifilm system for some time, I guess like the physical dials and the colors. But Fujifilm knows how to run their business. Although they might loose people like me on the way. On the other hand, they showed to be diverse in their models, so hope they won't forget to add my model(s) too ;)

      thanks for your thoughts! Yes X100V is great, but would have been even better if they kept the D-Pad!

    I always look forward to your reviews because you insist on shooting with the cameras for weeks or months on end. Would love this one, but may wait for the rumored 50s mkII. But I can see how the extra resolution can spoil someone, especially landscapers and product photographers.
    As far as the top display panel is concerned, did you toggle to the other formats and see if the lag was noticeable as well? The big histogram seems useful

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, yes I hate it when I only have a week to review, so I’d rather get a camera late if it means they can extend the loan, which Fujifilm is pretty good with. As for the top OLED sub-monitor, I’m not totally against it. I like it on my X-H1 and it’s useful on the GFX 50S. I just don’t want it to replace other important dials. I rarely toggled to the other display options because I always wanted to see and have access to my ISO and shutter speeds. I should have recorded the delay, it wasn’t horrible, but in real time use, it was a pain. I’d overshoot the ISO and go past and have to dial back.

    Fantastic review! As an XT3 shooter I'm considering the upcoming GFX 50S. As a non-pro but serious hobbyist travel/landscapes/documentary photographer, am I nuts? I love the 4:3 ratio and I've been floored by the resolution of online sample images. My plan would be to keep one of my X camera bodies along with the 10-24 and 55-200 but use the 50R with a 30mm 3.5 the vast majority of the time. I'd love your input!

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  3 роки тому +1

      I think it’s a good option to have two systems, X Series and GFX, as long as the price of the GFX 50S comes down significantly. I want to see at least $1500 cheaper, if not more. For myself I’d get one or two prime lenses, and maybe an adapter to use some of my film camera lenses on it.

    Nice review Take. The blue Fiat? Or Mini? MG? looks amazing with the yellow building. Anyway, these digital medium format sensors will soon take off and Fujifilm should take advantage of their beautiful designs and retro looks before others jump on that ship (I heard rumors of a new Hassy). Love the image quality and the bokeh rendition as well as the colors, but 100mpx is overkill for me. I struggle already with my storage:)))). Be safe, my friend :)

      Thanks Cris, the mini car in the intro was a Mini. I agree that Fujifilm is selling so many GFX cameras, it will incentivize Sony to further develop this format as well as drop the price. As for 100MP, it was fun, but I wouldn't shoot at that resolution for everything. When I had the Leica Q2 I was really enjoying 47MP though. It's hard to go back to 26MP, but that's all I really need.....

      I always merge AF-L and AE-L to a single button, which frees up an extra Fn-button. My most used custom function is white balance and film profile selection. If I can assign those to a convenient spot, I'm happy. I also want quick access to ISO, and although I didn't like how the virtual ISO dial worked, I still used it.

    wonder the image with the train and different sky color that you use editing to change the color of the sky? 1:06
    i'll share my "wish" again that maybe fuji could continue to make use of the 50mp sensor for better video features and less rolling shutter. (50mp might allow for 8k video and use most of the pixels in the camera haha)
    do you think the lack of dials is a way to sell it as a more "budget" camera? and their higher end cameras that will come in the future will have dials?

    • @bigheadtaco

      I explain the purple sky shift in my Instagram posts, but yes it's a HUE shift in Lightroom. As for an improved 50MP medium format sensor, that's up to Sony to decide, or if Fujifilm orders enough of them, they can make a BSI 50MP on-sensor phase detect sensor, but I have a feeling it's not worth it for either Sony or Fujifilm.

  • @protestagain
    @protestagain 3 роки тому +1

    Yeah, the Fuji GFX 100S with the 50/3.5 camera is the perfect tool for me. I've already have all the formats there are, in film and digital, just missing digital medium format and this is it. I can still use my many old lenses, T&S, and so on, and some very bright lenses, and they will still work with GFX. I can use it as a digiback with my large format 4x5 camera system. Will still use my m43 system, when I just need a small and light system, and a perfect partner with that system too.
    A 50R would be good enough for me, but when you have to buy batteries and charger, lenses, and so on, the difference between the 50R/50S to 100S might be too small, to consider it.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  3 роки тому

      Oh nice, if you can use your existing legacy lenses, that's always the ideal. I have tons of Minolta MD and A-mount lenses, and I know many have adapted to the GFX system with no vignetting issues. As for 4x5 T/S, that's great. I'd love to play around with a bellows on the GFXc100S as well. There's enough resolution to do some fun things.

    • @protestagain
      @protestagain 3 роки тому +1

      @@bigheadtaco I have both the Canon and Nikkor 24/3.5 T&S, but they are fragile. Then the Nikkor 28 and Olympus 35 tilt lenses. Both will work fine as wide angle lenses with GFX. The Oly 55/1.2 will cover the GFX, and so will all the other more teles. The GFX format is perfect in many ways.
      Actually the m43 is more than enough for me, but not when I'm doing fine art. That's the reason why I also use film, and every format there is. They are tools for me, as GFX will be.

    • @protestagain
      @protestagain 3 роки тому +1

      @@bigheadtaco By the way. All cameras are in a way advanced pinhole cameras. Black boxes with a hole in it. The more advanced has a brand name to it, some with a bigger hole to attach a lens, but they are still tools for capturing light.

      @@protestagain I know Jonas Rask tested tons of 35mm lenses on his GFX, and some suprised me, like the MD Rokkor 45mm f/2. Such a tiny lens but no vignetting. I didn't realize the T/S lenses are so fragile. Maybe I'm better to just use the large format lens adapter and use a bellows.

    • @protestagain
      @protestagain 3 роки тому +1

      @@bigheadtaco Well, those T&S lenses aren't really fragile, but kind of flimsy. You have to tighten them always up, and they aren't as usable as wide angels, as some of those Tilt lenses from the era before, such as the Nikkor 28 and the Olympus 35/3.5. They will also cover the GFX perfectly, and give a field of view as 21 and 28 mm in 35 mm cameras. I got them for € 100 each.
      I have many Nikkor F tele lenses I know wil work fine, with GFX, but there is one lens specially I look forward to testing out, and it's the most famous one. The Nikkor 105/2.5 AIS. I use it with Metabones Speedbooster on m43, and it's tremendously good, better than Oly 75/1.8.
      Buy the way, I bought the cheapest Nikkor 50mm there is, the NIKKOR-H 50mm f/2. Those old ones are some of the best lenses from Nikkor. You get those from $ 30-100, and I think they will work nice with GFX.
      Yes, I have seen all of those videos from Jonas Rask.

I contacted Fujifilm directly and they contacted their engineering team. They told me directly that Fujifilm no longer calibrates their lcd or evfs

    Great review! I've had my GFX 100s for a few months now and, I am loving it I've just started putting out videos with youtube. I am just having fun with it not putting up client shoots because the videos would be six hours long. Just putting up videos of me having a bit of fun with the camera, but I am getting some trolls saying that the camera is wasted on me, so I am getting annoyed because I have worked commercially. I'm not putting up images that I claim are very good a lot are just straight out of the camera, plus I'm just doing it for fun. What would you say to a troll? Do I make a video showing what I can do with the camera, which will take a while because well, it won't be as fun but to prove to the trolls what I can do. Do I destroy them in the comments? Do I ignore them and delete their comments.
