If you unplug the MAF the engine runs on preset values.. thats actually a way to test for bad MAF.. unplug it while its running, bad MAF - Rough running.. unplugged.. smooth.
Good vid Nathan! Warning! BMW sunroofs explode if it is really hot outside all day and you turn on your A/C the same time it starts raining at the end of the day! Be careful all you BMW owners in the South.
test each pin on a multi meter and check do a ohms test using a little air source would be great to get a autopsy from the china mas sensor compare the sensor alignment vs stock and compare electrical values also check there electrical circuit layout ..
Hello. I have a 2002 BMW E39 525i. I replace the factory air box to aftermarket. Also replaced intakes pipes. After installation I started the car and it doesn’t idle. After a few tries in order to hold idle I had to hold gas down and now it makes a loud knock sound. I checked code appears to show P0102. Unplugged Maf and still dies. What would be the Issue. Please help. Thanks
I seen you had a few videos on the e39 ABS module. I found the issue to be the blown mosfet inside for the pump. Any inputs to which mosfet I could replace it with?
Nathan...one thing I’ve learned, and you have even mentioned yourself...NEVER BUY AFTERMARKET SENSORS. now we have a new lesson..NEVER BUY USED SENSORS, even if they are OEM like the one you got off eBay
My bmw e39 cranks but no start it would start if I sit there and crank it but it would die right away I’ve changed the fuel pump and also crank shaft sensor and it still won’t start any ideas ?
I've had rough idle on my BMW 5 series 2002 E39 for the past 10 years. If I catch it quick enough, I just turn off the engine for 10 seconds and restart the engine a few times. I would love to fix it though. Every car mechanic I've taken it to cannot find the problem or fix it. Yesterday my car broke down with a faulty battery. I mentioned the rough idle to the rescue guy. He said it could be an airflow problem.
Maybe that may sensor is no good I had same exact problem on my e46 cold start it will start then stall immediately I had to start it 3time for it to hold idle I remove intake manifold replace ccv an all vacumm lines intake gasket an this morning I took the chance an roll the dice an buyed a bremi may sensor an it fix it right on the spot did it all myself
I have stopped buying BMW parts on line from any sources other than FCP Euro or ECS tuning. A recent purchase of spark plugs for my E70 X5M resulted in two Bosch Plugs being bad. With a BMW Roundel discount of 10 percent, even dealer parts can be had for tolerable prices.
OK, But my 96' E39 Has an irregular High Idle- passing 5 RPMs I replaced The Idle Air Control Valve and it still has this extreme , high revving...#needshelp
i have the same problem, my ccv started to go bad and i changed it, i had to remove the air box etc all the way to the throttle body, removed thoose replaced the ccv, worked like a charm, after i put everything back in, i started the engine, it went to 4k rpm from the start, i think it wanted to go higher but i turned the ignition off, after watching some videos i came to the conclusion that it must be the icv, but i didnt even touched that thing, anyway i made my way to the icv took it off cleaned it put it back in and when i started the car it went from 2k rpm to 3500, it was going back and forth, after playing with the throttle a bit now it starts doing the same shit, and im out of ideas now
Sorry, my English is not enough to understand this video. The same problem exists with my vehicle. Does anyone among us know exactly what the solution is?
Mine was doing this 96 e36 328i. They said must be your MAF. I had a look. A big split in the air intake boot underneath. Duct tape. Away laughing. I find it easier to fix motor problems than body clips and brackets on the e36. A couple inside door panels will never sit right again and those couple of spot light brackets wont get fixed till I crash the things.
Had the same issue with an E46, they will run without the sensor plugged in, not perfect but better than with a duff sensor, if the ECU can't see a signal it reverts to a base setting.
The Clod start is near the MAF sensor kind of by Disa valve next to idle control valve over the vacuum pump by coil pack wire harness thing beside temp sensor next to some of those tubes of the ccv filled with that yellow buttery crap. Spray it all down with wd40 and toss in match.
I have a problem with my m54 engine, it starts and goes out, if I hold the gas for 2,000, it works and jerks after the gas is released, it goes out, the fuel pump is working properly, the flow meter is working, after computer diagnostics errors, no what is the problem?
it's a very nice car but any used car will have to have repairs. if you don't know how to fix maybe get something new(er) 528i is very reliable (abs isn't)
Oh, you need blinker fluid, we all know we as Bimmer drivers do NOT use our indicators. I don't even know if my Bimmer has turn signals, woulden't even know how to turn on the blinker light. LOLOL.
You are in BMW and you have ISTA and you use this generic reader for diagnostic? Still too complicated for you or what? With ISTA there is no guessing, it exactly tells you what is the problem, so why are you not using it?
I would assume he is using a generic reader because most of us deplorables don't have ista and he is showing us what we can do with what we have available. Concur on previous dumb arse comment
@@stevenburke5494 wow, since you are presenting your self as highly intelligent but humble person by your vocabulary (read a$$hole), you could use that intelligence to order a cable and ISTA of eBay for less than a $100 instead of spreading this knowledge of yours.

You dont want to unplug it while it's running on this model it can fry the ecu.
I assume you can’t fry what doesn’t work! Similar to checking coil packs?
Where is the cooling fan and shroud? Is it necessary to remove those for this or did a miss a guru moment?
Good vid Nathan! Warning! BMW sunroofs explode if it is really hot outside all day and you turn on your A/C the same time it starts raining at the end of the day! Be careful all you BMW owners in the South.
This happen to you?
So did you fix it?.if so how? This video just showed you swapping maf sensors about. Was it the fuel pump or crank sensors?
test each pin on a multi meter and check do a ohms test using a little air source would be great to get a autopsy from the china mas sensor compare the sensor alignment vs stock and compare electrical values also check there electrical circuit layout ..

Love all your vids, Nathan. I think in decades to come we must cryogenically freeze your brain for the longevity of vintage BMWs.
I second this

@@jaguar7051 Fuck China and no not every sensor is made there.
Did you clean the original one before buying the replacement ?

Same here

Wow. What a beautiful car ! E39 with that interieur one of the best cars ever made ! Greez from Germany

Have you tryed cleaning the MAF with the proper spray 1st?
Or you could turn the key on and try to spray fuel out of the fuel rail or put a gauge on it❤
If fuel pump either working or not.
Sorry, my English is not enough to understand this video. The same problem exists with my vehicle. Does anyone among us know exactly what the solution is?
Why didn't you use ista?
William Ghau what is that?
could be the gasket on the engine side.

Yeah, can't go cheap on the MAF. I learned that the hard way
Why not clean it first?
Please send me those mags.. things are shit expensive in South Africa
Wanted to see a 3.0 l engine
This guy is pretty good.
Get a Pierburg brand maf sensor
Those BMW catalytic replacement is pain the butt... 8 hours Fuck that ... oil pan leak 4 bourse ....
Anything Will take you a day to Fix
1999 528i bmw no start
clean the clod start just pull hose of spray wd40 down pipe put back and start car all good give it a try
Clean the clod start? Not picking on you, that may really be the name of it. Where is it exactly that you spray WD-40? I'm going to try that
The Clod start is near the MAF sensor kind of by Disa valve next to idle control valve over the vacuum pump by coil pack wire harness thing beside temp sensor next to some of those tubes of the ccv filled with that yellow buttery crap. Spray it all down with wd40 and toss in match.
Stuck idle control and bad amps and everything is reacting.
I always get vacuum problems no matter what motor I have. Think it's the moist air here.
without a working fuel pump, the engine wont start.
well done so help full and good explane you make us understod well ¨
maybe its backwards inside
Great video Nathan. Keep plugging away and you'll get it.

I have the same. Did you resolve your issue?
What was problem?..
Do you think it’s worth buying an e39 with 300k miles on it?
it's a very nice car but any used car will have to have repairs. if you don't know how to fix maybe get something new(er) 528i is very reliable (abs isn't)
No man..
No
How much are you paying for it ? If it's very cheap maybe it's worth taking a chance
Last of the famous it’s selling for about 800. It runs with tags up to date.
I would pop the air filter out to make sure no mice made nothin funny in the air box blockin the air flow.
Oh, you need blinker fluid, we all know we as Bimmer drivers do NOT use our indicators. I don't even know if my Bimmer has turn signals, woulden't even know how to turn on the blinker light. LOLOL.
It might be fuel pump
Check batteri
engine starts, cant be battery
these engines dont even need maf i run my m52b25 without one and even goes better that way
Consuption is more?
Three isues B . M . W ..
What the fak means rough idle???
That’s how my 645 runs😭😭😭
Those clips are a pain.
Parts on ebay ????????..... Go to store.
Mistery freaskin cars
