  • We're doing a Budget Build. AGAIN. Why do we do this to ourselves? Your guess is as good as mine. To spice things up a bit, and add more pain, we've introduced the Wheel of Fordyce, which has a lot of good and bad options on it for ruining our weeks. Watch Josh from ‪@HarleyDesignsInc‬ and myself suffer through eight weeks of this.

The wheel has to come back for the next budget build series!
Also add a part of the wheel where “you have to sell something off the rig” but the money from the proceeds can’t go back into rig. You have to use it for say like a dinner date or something.

I always love these challenges. for the next one you guys should go outside the box and do a buildoff of the HPI venture kit. Nobody ever talks about that truck. It may be terrible??? I don't know I have never seen one in person but it would be interesting to see a dive into a totally different platform rather than the axial, traxxas, vanquish world. rpphobby has them on sale right now for $199.99. Maybe take a questionable truck and try and improve it the best you can. thanks for all the entertainment. I enjoyed this series!

Overall, I think Matt gets the "win". However (yes, I have to do this)...given what each had to work with (ie. based on the wheel), and looking at it from that perspective, I'd have to say Josh won. So...split decision...lol
Now, with that said, I have what I think would be an excellent...not to mention creative...idea for an upcoming "budget build-off" (maybe even an outstanding way to 'kick off' 2024). And, before I continue, yes, it would involve a wheel...actually, two wheels. Consider it a double whammy. Speaking of which, this budget build 'comp' should be called "The Wheels of Whammy Budget Build". To start, a relatively budget-friendly RTR crawler would have to be agreed on. That determination would be for the two of you to decide...or, even better, you could put it to a vote amongst your viewers, as follows: Come up with a list of 5 (relatively) 'budget-friendly' RTRs, and have the views of both channels vote. Whichever RTR received the highest number of votes (each person voting should only be allowed to vote once), that's the RTR both of you would have to use.
Starting with how many weeks/episodes the build should last, that depends on how many 'categories' there are (at the beginning) for the first wheel. The first wheel would be divided into sections based on the areas of upgrade. Not only that, but, the first wheel...called "upgrade areas wheel"...could have a number of sections equal to the number of weeks that they build would be, or if could have more sections then the week-length of the build. Going this route, that would mean that certain 'areas' might not receive any upgrades (think of this as the "devilish factor"...lol). Here are a few examples of what those wheel sections could be:
    1) Wheels, tires, and foams
    2) Suspension (ie. shocks, links, ship towers)
    3) Brass upgrades (NOT including servo)
    4) Electronics (which could include brass servo)
    5) Accessories (to be determined as what, specifically, would be classified as 'accessories')
    6) Lights (which could include headlights, taillights, bullbar lights and/or roof-mounted lights w/ lightbar)
    7) Gearing (transmission, T-case, and axle ring & pinion gears...as well as portal gears, if vehicle has portal axles)
    8) Wildcard, chosen by person spinning
    9) Wildcard, chosen by others person
Getting to that second wheel, the sections would have different dollar amounts, indicating how much would be allowed to be spent each week. Additionally, the number of Dollar amount sections would correlate exactly to the number of wheels that the build would be. If, for example, the build is set for 6 weeks, even though the "areas of upgrade" wheel might have 8, or even 10, sections, the "dollar amount" wheel would only have 6 sections. Amounts could be, for example, $25, $50, $75, $100, $125 & $150.
As for the two wheels, this is where things would get interesting...VERY interesting. Each week, each person would soon both of their wheels. That would determine what area they'd be upgrading, and how much they are allowed to spend on said upgrades. For the following week, that dollar amount, and upgrade area, would be removed from their respective wheels, thus eliminating The possibility of either coming up again for that person. In eliminating one section from each wheel each week, when it comes to the final week, although there might still be more than one "upgrade area" available, there would only be a single "dollar amount" available. With each of you having your own two wheels, work the paint of each week, each of you would have different remaining "upgrade area" & "dollar amount" possibilities.
Adding a second layer of devilishness, where each week's dollar amount for each person is concerned, there would be no 'carryover' to the following week. In other words, it's "use it, or lose it". Whatever dollar amount you spin, you want to try and get as close to that dollar amount, without going over, because whatever remains cannot be used on any future weeks.
Now, you should easily be able to tell why I'm calling this "The Wheels of Whammy".

      @scalebuildersguild  8 місяців тому +1

Definitely some great ideas in there! Certainly complicates things and offers more randomness. Thank you for the very detailed comment, and we'll certainly explore this idea in the new year. THANK YOU!

i will stay home and CRY the rest of the day . and pretend to blame it on the fact that it is snowing . my stock fordyce is tired looking on the outside . it makes me want to start over with a fresh one. with wheels and shocks as a novice poser winter build . as a novice i enjoy the visual upgrades more than the performance ones , since i dont really know how to crawl . like the trucks for freedom and what ever it is that i missed out on in last nights livestream i wish that VANQUISH would make me a #TRUCKSFORPOSERS edition . great channel . as far as the pins that hold the body to the back of the fordyce i thought you would like to know i am getting better at hole finding . without my readers . i hate skiing and the mountain opens this week end no more crawling .
