    I'm so glad I discovered your channel! My wife and I just bought our first home and although we don't have hardwood floors (we have LVP), I'm excited to see other projects that we might be able to apply to our house as well!

    The floors look incredible! Great job guys. To think that was living under that nasty green carpet for all those year.

      Thanks so much! The carpet helped to protect the oak for so many years and we are very thankful 😁

    Floors look great! Huge effort.
    Just a tip for when you silicon/caulk in areas like bathrooms and kitchens, avoid using your fingers. The bacteria/sweat in your fingers will typically effect the silicone/caulk and be more likely to develop mold and de colour over time.
    Lightly spray on slightly soapy water and use caulk tool or even popsicle/ice cream sticks.

    Looks great! One thing I noticed is you used mitered joints on the inside corners. It's better to use coping joints for inside corners instead to minimize gaps when the moulding expands and contracts. Keep up the awesome work!

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! And yes, I have seen coping in the past, but we felt it was faster to miter the comers and made sure to add caulk to all the joints. But great point. We will see how it holds up

    CRAZY how the smallest trim makes such an impact!! Really lookin good guys!! You need to reach out to DAP. They sponsor a lot of UA-cams creators. The Channel has grown enough & videos are enjoyable enough for them to sponsor you guys!! A lot of caulking still to go in that house. Just sayin... Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out!!

    it looks like behind the vent covers is wood anyway, and its a ent cover, not a shelf. you dont need it to be able to withstand a load at all, the screws are just to hold it in place. Bit excesive i'd say to go through all the effort of putting it into a stud when a rawl plug would do fine.

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  Рік тому +3

      There wasn't any wood behind the vent covers unfortunately. We tried to screw it into the drywall, but it was a very weak connection. Adding new holes to hit the studs only added about 2 minutes of work. We thought it was well worth it to not have cracked caulk later down the line

    I'm in the process of reno myself and a little stump on the shoe moulding, how do you make this "chamfer"? Great videos by the way! I'm slowly watching your bathroom reno, great stuff! Lots to learn.

    O M G! Of ALL projects to tackle DIY.....would you do it again on your next house? or hire professional? I chose to omit bedrooms, leaving only have 330 sq ft to refinish and I got quotes from $3300 to $4400.(in Upstate NY) You mentioned "labor of love"..that's more labor of blood, bone and soul"! Whew! GREAT JOB!

    I'm having my floors refinished as I'm watching this. While I DIY damn near everything, 2 kids kinda makes floors a no go. That said, I will be throwing on the shoe molding. Was a pin nailer recommended? I've also read that an 18 guage brad nailer is best? Hows the molding holding up with pins? Great channel! Subbed.

    • @GoldenKeyDesign
      @GoldenKeyDesign  Рік тому +1

      Welcome aboard! Our shoe molding is holding up great. Pins are plenty strong. You can use a brad nailer but you will need to go back and fill in all your holes with wood filler

    Bringing the miter saw inside to cut over freshly finished floors and painted baseboard is insane. Just measure each room. Write down and number your cuts and do it outside
