I have seen people eat unscraped tripe and I always thought that they don't know how to clean it. I am surprised that that is not the case, that they actually prefer it that way just like you said. I guess eating it that way is a delicacy for you and others that prefer that version.
I did not buy it from the store. I bought it from an animal farm. If you know where you can buy live animals (goats, cows, etc) from in your state, they usually sell the organs and other parts of the animal that don't make it to the store.

It came as a shock to me just the way it shocks you that people remove the top layer. I used to think that they did not know how to clean it or didn't want to do the tedious work. I think there’s a culture difference here, what’s the point of removing the furry skin? It’s called meat towels for a purpose,if that is gone then eating cow/goat tripe is of no use 😢.

Bought some tripe and by the time I pour hot water on it the bleach scent was evident. I had to pour it out😢😢
