I hate the way Esperanto is politicised. I love the language and think international communication in the form of a universal second language is a great idea, but it has been hijacked slightly by left wing factors over the years which kind of defeats the whole point of it. It neither belongs or should belong to the left or the right anymore than it should belong to a white or a black man. It should've treated solely as a language and not a communist dream of a future language in their 'warped' utopian states. It turns a lot of people away from it. Also on the same lines...why does a language have 'an anthem?'
There is absolutely no way a fascist would be an internationalist. The reason Esperanto is so overwhelmingly leftist is because leftists are the internationalists, not the rightists. Rightists are nationalists, they want to keep their languages and they are proud of them.
How can a means of communication, the most fundamental thing of human existence, *not* be political? Choosing to speak Kurdish instead of Turkish is for damn sure a political statement, just to take one example. Wrapped up in Esperanto is from the very beginning ideas of universalism, internationalism and pacifism. Dr. Zamenhof was a die-hard idealist who saw his project as a way of fostering peace between nations. The Nazis hated those ideas and wanted to wipe them out. Tell me there's no politics involved in this.
It isn't politicised. Anyone can learn it and use it for whatever purpose, just like any other language. There are rightwingers, "libertarians" and lots of other political leanings. It's not our fault if rightwing people don't see the point in our idea(l) or don't want to learn a language invented by a jew. It has an anthem because someone wrote it.
