After a relatively long pause, we're returning to the "Rome in 3D" virtual project video postings, about ancient Rome. Unfortunately, not everything went as planned, but we did not abandon the project despite the difficulties, especially this year. It is the reboot of the project, many objects were replaced and remodelled completely, and the whole project has been moved to the new game engine. It is the first trailer, which can give you the common imagination about the amount of work done. I will procceed with posting a series of videos, where we will explore Rome buildings more detaily, with comments and descriptions. Also, I'll regularly inform you about the progress of the "Rome in 3D" project. Thank you and stay with us!

The most beautyfull city in world history!
They did all of this without machines....INCREDIBLE!
Well they had slaves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@blablanilgi25 you needed skilled craftsmen to be able to polish and shape marble or to carve intricate designs on columns as an example and architects to be able to design these things. Most societies had slaves and yet only some manage to establish magnificent empires so there's more to the story than merely having slaves.
Slaves were just free labor but often they were captured farmers so it isn't as if they knew how to do these things. The slaves were actually more useful in large farming eststes in Italy where they were used to care for cash crops.
@@kles44 Yes I know. I was referring to the part about the machines. They didn't had those but made up with it through the slave labour
@@blablanilgi25 a dumb question: how are the slaves will manage to lift up a block of stone or marble averaging about 500 kg/700 kg up to 5 mt or 20 mt or building the famous aqueducts, by hand without tools according to you? Please have a serious look at the famous Trajan's Column. For your info the structure is about 30 metres in height, 35 metres including its large pedestal. The shaft is made from a series of 20 colossal Carrara marble drums, each weighing about 32 tons, with a diameter of 3.7 metres perfectly aligned and it was done by hand without any means of lifts or tools? The ancient people were not total imbeciles and to certain jobs you need qualified slaves...
@@paoloviti6156 Yes. I'm totally aware of the insane amount of engineering etc. that went into building this structures. I only meant that it helepd to have many workers who contributed to this projects besides the architects, engineers and so on.
Btw if your intersted in ancient civilizations I can recommend the books from Graham Hancock. They are also available as Audiobooks and are really interesting to listen too
Two or three times only in my life, I am now 61, I vividly dreamt to be walking inside ancient Rome. Mind boggling experience, quite similar to your superb rendition. Thank you.
Congratulations, great work. We look forward to the continuation of your longer videos.
I love these Romans!👀💖💖💖
I love how the buildings look a bit more used and dirty now. I think way too many reconstructions make ancient cities look way too clean and pristine, almost like plastic models, but this I think gets it right. The Romans were very serious about public maintenance of important buildings, but some of these buildings would have been hundreds of year old by 320 AD, so they can't have been in pristine condition either.
The only thing I think could still use some slight work in this regard is the statues. I think the paint should probably be a bit more faded, we don't really know much about how often (or if at all) the Romans repainted their statues. Having the paint more faded would probably be a bit more consistent and function as a decent compromise.
and were the statues all in gold? I always thought they were painted "lifelike" or is that only an ancient Greek style?
@@lucagiordano3282 mixed.
Well you need more processing power to run a simulation with buildings more detailed.
Also perhaps the colours may not have been quite so bold as in this reconstruction? (I'm guessing) They didn't have the synthetic dyes that we have nowadays - they couldn't make the colours as strong and bright as we can today.
Immersive and gorgeous video, a real pleasure to watch!
Yes. It's really marvellous. I do think its a little squeaky clean. Maybe it would be more realistic with smoke, and waste and dirt in the streets.
@@milesconnell2686 good point
So beautiful. Imagine the time and effort devoted on this video. Way to go. Love form Philippines. Viva Roma. Thank you so much for making this
Yes !! Been waiting for this. Lovely work, my man. Respect from Sweden
Again, an outstanding creation. I am transported, or better put: transcended.
Thank you so much for your work.
Hope one day Assassin's creed series can bring me to walk on the mighty Rome city
Assassin's Creed: Path of Empire
Odyssey was done so well! We NEED one fully on Ancient Rome. I think I would just spend hours walking around & looking at all the monuments.
1:38 Whaaaaaaat? Did they really have a map of Rome on the side of a huge wall? That's amazing!
OMG THIS IS GREAT
You really feel transported watching this video with a real sense of what it would have been like visiting Rome at its apex before the fall. A very emotional and touching experience. Thank you.
Breathtaking! 2:38
Magnífico. Impresionante!! Felicidades
Good job notably the real reconstitution of the tabularium with the temple of Venus, the temple of Peace with the Forma Urbis Romae and the Colossus of Nero.
There are several things I find surprising about this stunning re-creation, First, I hadn’t realized that the Romans put a statue just about anywhere they could find space. Second, although I had read that Roman statues were painted, I didn’t realize that they made such liberal use of gold coloring. Third, it is astonishing how Roman architecture reached its zenith so close to the end of the western empire. It’s as if they were at a huge party where the celebration got more and more out of control and no one thought about taking away the punch bowl. The late empire seems to have been a Gilded Age of truly epic proportions.
it has to do with human nature. The most indulging carnivals and architectural marvels where done in Venetian Serenissima when Atlantic trade and turk hostilities halved the income leading to a disengage on everything.
Roma Caput Mundi...and this is why! love the work.
Fantastic work.
Thanks!
Great job
Awesome!
Hats off to you guys, incredible
I am going through these 3D reconstruction videos of Rome in the order that I find them on UA-cam and they are becoming progressively wilder. It’s crazy
👍 superbe, comme à chaque fois !
Dans le même genre et par thème voir les vidéos du CIREVE. En plus il y a des explications faites par des universitaires.
Wow ancient Rome was so beautiful!
Congratulation ,You are fantastic
Fantastic- job. One almost feels like you are actual there!
Stunning. I love Roma.
The mother of all cities.
Sono contento che ami la mia città (Roma), sappi che io amo allo stesso modo la Russia e il suo Popolo...Bellissimo lavoro, dal valore inestimabile..grazie per averlo condiviso
Great job!
Absolutely amazing! A few too many gold statues, and not gritty enough, but really, way over the top!
Bravo, so beautiful.
Marvellous…
Wow that is amazing
Extraordinary! It would make the modelling more understandable if some of the larger, more significant structures were labelled. But this video brings home the idea of Roman grandeur and the beauty of its civic architecture. Wonderful!
Maybe use the subtitles so the feature can be turned on/off as wanted?
Wow I’m in awe! This is definitely the most accurate I’ve seen Ancient Rome look. Great job!
Wonderful...great work! The lighting is beautiful. It really brings this to life
Congratulations, excellent video, wonderful, thank you
Mennyire látszik, hogy pogányok! Idegen világ. Nagy szükség volt a keresztyénségre.
This is so so so so amazing! Can't thank you enough for creating this!
Precioso
Rome in that times was like Dubai new York london and Paris today in one city. We don't forget that the Romans founded all the most beautiful cities of the world like Rome London Paris and many others. The roman world was the best of all times
Not, if you were born as a slave :)
@@inquerion8867 absolutely, Rome simps always seem to forget that
Beautiful! Much gratitude, for this impressive effort.
WOW! So many details historical accurate. The team studied a lot the plans of ancient Rome. Congrats! :D
Incredible work. Thank you for the effort!
I'm waiting for the DVD of your project!
DVD? 2004 vibe
Why not Betamax while you're at it?
Fantastic!
Tu regere imperio populos, Romane, memento. Hae tibi erunt artes, pacisque imponere morem, parcere subiectis et debellare superbos! Regina Italiae!
grazie
Great. As it's digitised it would be amazing to see it in 3D VR 360degree
I have no words
damn I wish to walk these streets so bad, in the modern world we have nothing that comes close to 1/10th of the beauty of ancient Rome
My congratulations. You have done a great job. The animation is simply beautiful. I'll ask for more - maybe The Domus Aurea of Emperor Nero?
Look better than some modern city's
Maravilhoso🥰
Imagine a massive 1000 players Roleplay game set in ancient rome and outskirts
I like this. I wish I could get a closer look at the Jupiter temple on the Capitoline Hill, that looks amazing from afar.
When do you think that we can see all ROME?
Regina Italiae!
It would be amazing an Assassin's Creed game set in Ancient Rome, more precisely during the rule Nerva-Antonine Dynasty (96-192). Not only Rome itself, but all of Roman Italy, covering, for example, Sicily (including Syracuse and Agrigento), Calabria (including Reggio), Campania (including Naples and Paestum) and Puglia (including Taranto, Bari and Brindisi).
Lol, AC creates sure a good ambient, bit they have never created and they will never create any accurate reconstruction of Rome. That's why our activity makes sense.
It looks great! Out of curiosity, you mentioned that it is a reboot... Is it more of a continuation or an actual "reboot"? If the later, what are the main improvements over the previous version? Thanks!
Please read the description, I've explained it there.
@@historyin3d Yup, stupid me, should have tapped the description box... Thanks for replying, though! Keep up your good work :)
Roma Aeterna!
Божественно
At that time ancient Rome had passed most of its glorious time. Only few years later Constantine took a new capital in the East. What did the Rome of Sulla, Pompey, Caesar and Augustus look like 300-400 years earlier ?
Actually, a lot of virtual reconstrictions of Rome use this date/year/time period because most iconic buildings & monuments of Rome have been built and were still standing to this time. It's the most complete Rome. Only iconic things still missing are the grand Cathedrals like the Old Saint Peter's Basilica.
@@lordofhostsappreciator3075 Yes but Rome in 320 AD was a city in decline. It lost its role as the capital of the empire to Byzantion, which was chosen by Constantine to become the new capital. And the whole empire had started to disintegrate slowly. In the days when Rome still was prospering and growing it probably looked far more rural. The Rome of the second Punic War has very llittle to do with the Rome 500 years later. All the luxury in building did not exisrt, but the population had high morala and succeeded in withstanding an enemy (Hanniba) which on the battlefield had turned out to be superior. In 320 AD the rests of the famous Roman army consisted of enlisted mercenaries, most of them from Germanic tribes. The introduction of the military title "Magister militum" was an adoption to the Germanic habit to have dukes at wartime. The military base of thhe empire became more and more like Germanic tribal warriorss already before the big movement of the Germanic tribes started in 406 AD. Rome in 320 AD was no more the proud heroic Rome of its early days, the Rome which could challenge the whole mediterranean world with their army.
Your romanticising of the Republic has absolutely nothing to do with the architectural layout of Rome here.@@olavtryggvason1194
MORE ! MORE !! How about ! The The Palaces of the Paletine Hill ?????
Roma Invicta, one question though, why did you pick 320 AD? Is there any monumental moments in the city history in 320 AD?
Most of models and simulations of Rome show Rome in 320 AD because it's the end of the great buildings and the creation of Constantinople. It's when all the well known monuments are present.
@@nicktamer4969 yes, that's the very reason!
@@danieleferretti1813 no. 320 AD
@@historyin3d Yes, as the Romans were carefull of their monuments preservation, Rome 320 AD surely looked like an open air museum of romans architecture of all periods, mostly in their initial shape, from Romulus cabane down to Maxence basillica and everything in between. Thanks a lot for working so well to show us how magnificent it was.
How do you decide which colour and pattern of stone to use for the interiors? Are your choices based on archeological remains?
Yes the archaeological remains are taken in consideration everythere it’s possible, and for the rest the comparative methods as well.
holy shit this is good man
I'm wondering about all the golden statues. Gilded? Gold paint? Polished bronze? I realize that in Rome and Greece, statues were commonly painted, which is not to the modern taste. But shiny gold? Is this correct?
I'm part Italian and proud of my Roman ancestors.
@@user-be4nm1fq5w I'm part Greek as well.
Muy lindo a quedado y quienes van a vivir ahí ponga puestos de comida y árboles frutales caños para que la gente tome agua y más asientos para que el turista este Cómo en su casa
AND they did it with out power tools ! ! !
Make this a virtual reality (Oculus Quest 2, Valve Index, etc.) game, and people will buy it. I would live to walk around ancient Rome's streets and in the Forum like a tourist.
currently people don't even watch our videos)))
@@historyin3d I do! lol
I do and my classmates also after showing this perfect made video. Also my teacher was very impressed.
God work, bravo!
You need sub titles telling people what they are seeing because it looks nice but I'm not sure what part of the city like what was everything in the center of Rome?
At around 1:57 we see what must be the Second Temple menorah?
I hope Ubisoft is watching this!
What is the large map at 1:39 called? I vaguely remember it's some huge map made up of tablets that are all lost now, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me and Google doesn't help!
Forma Urbis
Alme Sol, curru nitido diem qui promis et celas aliusque et idem nasceris, possis nihil urbe Roma visere maius
Can u do Carthage in 3D?😁
PRÆTORIÆ DELENDA EST
**ABOLISHED!**
No wonder Rome was the "Light of the World." When Rome died so as the rest of the world and it turned to "Dark Age".
Name of the track?
Puteți adăuga subtitrările de limbă?
you should make this as a game on roblox!
1:36 how was that map called again?
Forma Urbis
And all that beauty and magnificence fall thanks to religion and the "superior race" of the north!
What's the deal with that giant wall-map inside one of the buildings, labeling all the different areas of the city? Was that actually there?
Yes. It is the Forma Urbis.
I like it but there's something historically incorrect about it. Nero's collosus was destroyed before the building of the colloseum. That's where the Colloseum got it's name from.
Wrong. The colossus was simply "modified" not to resemble Nero anymore. The giant statue survived until the fall of the Empire, when it was demolished at the pope's request.
Roma la citta æterna
MAGNIFICENT!!!!!! WHAT ! A TRAGIC ! LOSS !.😠😠😡😡. It Makes! Present ! Day ROME!! Look ! Like A Brick Village 😞
THE COLOUS IS WORTH DESTROYING AFTER THE DEATH OF NERO ?
No, they changed the face with Apollo.
This should be a video game. "Red Dead Plumbata."
Lol why not XD
Fantastic work.
