I have never been as impressed with a UA-cam farm video as I was with this restoration of this Lugar. The welding skills and the gunsmith skills that were showed in this restoration project were unbelievable. At first it looked like the person was going to just salvage parts off the gun and maybe sell them or something. But then, as I saw the Welding commence, I knew that it was on! My hat is off to you, sir.

When I was 13 we lived in a small German village in the Hunsrück area of Germany in 1963. Dad was Air Force and we were there for three years. Being interested in WW2 I was always keeping my eyes open for coins and other artifacts from that period. One day I was walking up a hill on the edge of the road and was looking for more German Reich coins in a little stream/sewer running alongside the road when I spotted a rusty pistol in the water. Being a fan of the Sgt Rock comic books back then I knew it wasn't a Luger but it was small, the grips were rotted away and, looking back on it, I'm guessing it was a Walther. Anyway, I took it back to my father and showed it to him and he said to just go throw it back where I found it. I did just that. The initial pictures shown here reminded me of that.

This pistol type exists since 1908 like the name says. It was used from police and military since then for almost 40 years till the end of WW2. It also lived through 4 types of goverment systems in Germany:
      1. Monarchy until 1918
      2. Democracy until 1933
      3. Dictatorship until 1945
      4. Democracy since 1949
