Should be a Hall of Famer. Only argument against historically is that Leslie O'Neal, with similar sack numbers, is not in, but considering that Freeney has more Pro Bowls, more First Team All Pros, and is on an all-decade team, it's not a fair comparison
I think his own teammate being so good has a lot to do with it, Robert Mathis has very similar numbers and actually forced more fumbles. Truth is they should both be in!
He might not make it because of how bad he was against the run. His sack numbers are well above average but his run defense was atrocious to put it lightly.
Freeney and Mathis are the greatest d end duo i have ever seen name another tag team like them that has 100 sacks a piece and had long-term success colts hit the gold mine drafting both
I was so impressed with his technique as a pass rusher and just great at forcing fumbles. Him and Mathis were fun to watch. Glad Freeney is getting the respect he deserves
This dude was so underrated man! He deserves some more praise. Im a Bears fan that grew up in Indiana. I definitely know the impact he had on the state. ✊🏽🐻⬇️
“...Underrated...”, lol? Spectators and pundits were *very* aware of him during his tenure with the ‘Colts, and even when he was with the ‘Chargers and ‘Falcons because he still made a notable impact.
Cant mention Freeney without Mathis or Mathis with out Freeney. Those 2 were DOMINANT. Best duo by far I may be bias being a Colts fan. Freeney was a pure finesse pass rusher not only got sacks but caused turnovers. Freeney should definitely have a gold jacket
@Some Guy yea those colts teams were built for pass first shootouts vs Brady rivers Brees and the other gun slingers of the time. And those colts teams don't have a great run stuffing linebacker, they didn't have a middle tier now that you bring up the Bob Sanders thing crazy how they don't have a linebacker I can remember. What did Gary Brackett play line or linebacker?
@@milesbrown7345 brackett was a lb. But he was average at best. All other lbs were below average. Crazy that they were 1-2 players on defense away from 3-5 Super Bowls.
What’s crazy is for a caliber of a player like Dwight Freeney, in today’s game he’d get an easy $100 million+ contract. Back then that was a monster deal for an edge. Today is just different.
I live in Cincinnati and he came in to a bar with his wife one night and sat down next to me and just started talking it took me a while to realize who it was , he is cool guy!!! Absolute beast
Man I miss those days. Freeney had an incredible motor. Look at him run. Every single time it's 100% full throttle, full speed, full power, legs pumping, arms flailing, trying to rip the QB's head off. And right behind him was Mathis!
I actually had the opportunity to be around the Colts a lot when they had training camp for 11 years at Rose Hulman in Terre Haute. I worked for the local cable company and we serviced the college.
As a Colt fan and a guy who played Dline from age nine til the end of high school, this man was my absolute favorite defender. I even wore 93 as my jersey number as a tribute to him. I'm glad his underrated career is getting some recognition in this video.
Way before Dwight there was Derrick Thomas...one of the best to ever play. He was the revolutionary, way undersized...but his speed off the edge was incredible.
I so miss this era Growing up a Hoosier going to colts games seeing the talent Getting autographs and shaking hands of legends I remember meeting Bob Sanders (The Muscle) Before a game one afternoon. He had on a custom tailored suit and when he shook my hand I could see the stitches stretch on his shoulder and arm...and talking to Tony Dungy before a game like he’d known me my entire life...,this is what football used to be about
There are some players who leave the Colts for other teams, but I will always consider them a Colt regardless of where they retire. Freeney is one of them. Those were awesome times for Colts fans.
I remember listening to that 2003 Dolphins game on the radio because I was at a Student Council event. Prior seasons the Colts were terrible defensively and I was just expecting Miami to go down the field and score. It was the first time I remember the defense actually winning the game during the Manning era. That was when I realized just how special he was.
Dwight Freeney was one of my favorite pass-rushers of all time. Not to mention he was a Colts player! I remember back in the day he was unstoppable in Madden too. Another 12-sack game LOL. In Freeney we trust!
I would spin throughout my years of playing football cause of Freeney. Even would salute my father whenever he was sitting after any good play I made like Freeney would do. Easily the number 1 player’s game I tried to mimic
Dwight Freeney was the real damn deal with the Colts he should be and will be a hall of famer he won a super bowl ring in 2006 he was a 1st Round draft choice out of Syracuse University underrated player no matter what
A prime Freeney was so disrespectfully fast and used to slip right by OTs. Also, when Mathis was coming up under him it made it even harder to block Dwight. He was a terror.
Lol yeah i hope nobody forgets about this. I remember just watching him on tv spinning and im like "everyone knows its coming, he knows it coming, the linemen knows its coming, the offensive coordinator knows its coming but nobody is gonna stop it"
Anytime I hear someone say an edge rusher doesn’t have enough size, I point to Freeney. Dude’s only 6’1 and was an elite sack artist. Robert Mathis too. He was similar in size.
I think people don't understand how good Dwight Frenzy & Robert Mathis was 2 of the best to ever do it hell even Tom brady said these 2 scared him the most as pass rushers 2 future halls of famers 🔥 🐐🐐
In 08 I used to use the colts for madden and he was absolutely BROKEN with the spin sack and I always wondered why I could get like 6 a game with him but now I know 😂💯
I'm a buccaneers fan but I will always have a place in my heart for dwight freeny when I played football I wanted to be just like him granted I may have been a little delusional at 5:10 165ibs lmao but hey he made me feel like I could move anyone off the line
Remember playing in High School, being not so big for a D end, watching him play. That day I copied his style, and being succesful until college with the spin move and speed pass rushing. Also, turning the OT standing at 45 degree angle.
Who was better in there prime? Demarcus ware or Dwight frenzy?
dwight for sure
Freeney
Ware
I think Demarcus
Freeney
Freeney and Mathis the most underrated duo to ever wreak havoc on quarterbacks
Eh it’s my boy CT
@@brendonkeen1974 Hey Brendon!
@Thomas Hillebrand Wow, that's awesome! Thank you
Knew I’d find you here!😂
Tell em CT
He’s such a beast at Defensive End. He should have his place in Canton, OH!!
He'll get it
Agreed 🙏
No cap!!!
He just got it :)
Glad y'all showing respect to Dwight freeney this man is a sure fire 1st ballot hall of famer
He earned it for sure...
HOF no doubt, one of the best pass rushers to ever do it

Let’s goooo
Him and Mathis made my childhood an absolute joy. Best duo for my money
Strahan & Osi
One of the forgotten legends he was a monster in his prime💯
Him and Johnathan Abraham
Not forgotten to Colts fans!
He just made the hall

Extremely underrated defensive end. Glad he’s finally getting his gold jacket. As a Colts fan he was always my favorite player when I was a kid.
Freeney and Mathis are the greatest d end duo i have ever seen name another tag team like them that has 100 sacks a piece and had long-term success colts hit the gold mine drafting both
Loved watching Freeny play! Definitely deserves to be in the hall of fame
This guy was so underrated! Happy to have been apart of the Dwight Freeney experience!
I was so impressed with his technique as a pass rusher and just great at forcing fumbles. Him and Mathis were fun to watch. Glad Freeney is getting the respect he deserves
Dwight Freeneys pass rush was lethal

Dwight Freeney was a legend. He’s one of the reasons why I wore #93 through my football days. Loved his style!
Bruce Smith started the spin move but Dwight Freeney perfected it being from Indiana I used to watch this man give Tackles fits he was a beast💪🏾💯
Was waiting for this comment. I'm a bills fan and smith was the one who started it. Dwight took it to another level.
HIM MATHIS AND SANDERS WERE A JOY TO WATCH 💯💪🏿🏈 GRATEFUL TO HAVE SEEN SOME OF THE GREATS 🤞🏿💎💯🏈
Him and Mathies One of the best defensive backs not only in Colts history but in NFL history awesome video
That duo reminded me of Derrick Thomas & Neil Smith from the 90's Chiefs
No, a fine pass rusher, but he was average vs the run.
Defensive ends (Had to do it )

Freeney and Mathis together were deadly. I loved those guys.
Dwight Freeney was a great defensive player.
He was amazing. He showed that size doesn't always win. Passion and heart 💯💪👍✌️
Deight freeney is awesome forever respect him. Always an impsct player even in his year with Atlanta
He was truly a compliment to football👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿.
Hall of Famer. No question!
Man I miss those days. Freeney had an incredible motor. Look at him run. Every single time it's 100% full throttle, full speed, full power, legs pumping, arms flailing, trying to rip the QB's head off. And right behind him was Mathis!
One of my fav defensive players of the 00s, was stellar for a long time.
Oh he's definitely hall of fame no question!
If he wants a coaching job he should have one waiting for him. He seems so knowledgeable. The young guys could learn a thing or two.
The Reason why I played DE in school was because of Freeney. He is an inspiration to all undersize linemen.
I actually had the opportunity to be around the Colts a lot when they had training camp for 11 years at Rose Hulman in Terre Haute. I worked for the local cable company and we serviced the college.

The best pass rush duo EVER.
There are some players who leave the Colts for other teams, but I will always consider them a Colt regardless of where they retire. Freeney is one of them. Those were awesome times for Colts fans.
Proof you dont need size to be a pass rusher

Him and Mathis
If I could give the fountain of youth to any player it would be Dwight freeny
I wasn't really watching football at this time but I'm surprised I've never heard of him before, he's unbelievable!
Of course I love Manning, Wayne and ALL the others guys.....but back in the day, Freeney was my hero....wish you ALL the best big fella
Strength and heart can overcome anything.
Dwight Freeney was one of my favorite pass-rushers of all time. Not to mention he was a Colts player! I remember back in the day he was unstoppable in Madden too. Another 12-sack game LOL. In Freeney we trust!
Honestly. Dwight Freeney sounds like the best guy to teach you how to be a dominant Edge rusher
Truly inspirational! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
He was my second favorite defensive player during those days...after Bobby Sanders the GOAT
Freeny and mathis where the best DE duo for long time
As a bears fan in that time period I have nothing but respect for mathis and freeny! Miss watching them destroy the edges
It's the old story of "Speed and Skill going up Sheer Brute Strength!"
Dwight freeney was underrated af , he was like chandler Jones tier of pass rusher

Freeny, golden, and Calais were really a underrated trio.
These videos are amazing. I'm working through a bunch of them, learning a ton.
Dwight Freeney was the real damn deal with the Colts he should be and will be a hall of famer he won a super bowl ring in 2006 he was a 1st Round draft choice out of Syracuse University underrated player no matter what
Robert Mathis needs a video on that 2013 season, he dominated!

Thank You for posting this. I enjoyed it.

Lol yeah i hope nobody forgets about this. I remember just watching him on tv spinning and im like "everyone knows its coming, he knows it coming, the linemen knows its coming, the offensive coordinator knows its coming but nobody is gonna stop it"
Not even an hour ago I was reading Dwight Freeney's wiki.
Him and robert one of the best of not the best pass rushing duos ever
Anytime I hear someone say an edge rusher doesn’t have enough size, I point to Freeney. Dude’s only 6’1 and was an elite sack artist. Robert Mathis too. He was similar in size.
I think people don't understand how good Dwight Frenzy & Robert Mathis was 2 of the best to ever do it hell even Tom brady said these 2 scared him the most as pass rushers 2 future halls of famers 🔥 🐐🐐
He said Jason taylor was better
Insane player 🔥
One of my favorites
One of the best but underappreciated pass rushers...

When Bob Sanders came along in ‘04 that changed everything.
