I think the main problem is that they just selling the same Motorcycle. One standard (LRS) and the other with extras (LRST). Harley should have just kept the LRS and offer the bags and fairing as an extra addon.
I've noticed this too and have shocked at how the trade in and used market values and plummeted on a lot of models too. Like crazy good deals for lrs, lrst, and even baggers. Probably right supply is up demand is down
Low trade in value is a plus for me. I simply cannot afford the out the door price of a new bike. As much as I’d love to have an ST I just won’t pay 27-28,000 for it. And I’m not paying 20,000 for a standard low rider 117 when I can get a low rider 114 for 15,000 off Facebook, and turn it into an ST with upgrades.
Not even worth selling it, may as well keep it until the wheels fall off lol. I've got a 23 as well and plan on keeping it, hoping to get her to 100k miles
I think it's a combination of inflation [high APRs], pandemic-era parts shortages going away, and a general malaise in the economy causing people to sell bikes they bought during the last 4 years. Too much supply = lower prices. It may not affect all bikes, but it's going to definitely effect the lower and mid-price bikes that more people could afford at the time of purchase.
I went into the Harley dealer last weekend to buy a new low rider st and they offered me 30% APR and i do not have terrible credit. Crazy high interest rates.
It’s 5.9% right now here in Edmonton Canada. They’re going to be hurting now since they have been outspoken about being woke and pushing their left wing craziness. I’ll never buy another new HD !
Here in the U.K. I just enquired about a PX with my Triumph Scrambler 900 and the main dealership wasn’t interested at all telling me to sell it on flebay/private …2 year old bike 😡
The larger problem is the economy. There are 11,000 new 2023-24 harleys sitting on showroom floors right now. 3000+ road glides. 937+ LR and LRST. So as a business bikes arent moving. And if you take a trade in you are adding to dealer inventory with 2025 bikes on the way. As a dealer owner it is a huge risk taking your used bike. If you want to see for yourself do a nationwide search for new 2023-2024 harley make nationwide on cycletrader. 11k+😮
PS the new 2024 roadglide at $25k is not much more than the Low rider S or ST. I think buying preowned from private that already have some of the mods on already
@@IronBornRider For sure, enjoy. They're cool bikes. I have a '79 FXEF 80 shovelhead in pristine original condition and have to say the LRS is still my fave. I do like the cool front fender and shrouded headlight of the '79, but they're different animals.
~$22k is a lot for a bike… esp for beginner riders too. 117cu and 690lb. She’s got huge potential…but only if you are a well rounded enough of a rider to bring out her potential. Then… she’s sweeeet.
People say it's because there are so many of them. Anecdotes being what they are, they're easily the model I see the least of out riding, at meet-ups, etc. For every Low Rider S (or ST), there are about 25 baggers. While it's not great to hear about TIV, mine isn't going anywhere.
Interesting thoughts man! I don't think Harley necessarily overproduced the bikes. They underproduced in previous years just before the economy went to s***t and people were still buying. Now that priorities have shifted towards living expenses rather than toys, people are not buying. Those that have bought can no longer afford them, and so we have a perfectly bad storm of new bikes plus a lot of barely used ones. And it's not just Harleys or even motorcycles in general. I can see your point with the ST models, but I am seeing equal numbers of ST and S just sitting on dealers' floors and not moving at all, only the used stock is moving and very slowly at that.
traded my 2022 lrs with 20k miles for $9k. Bought it used so I didnt take that much of a hit. I would never pay the overinflated retail prices. Theres so many harleys on the market with low miles that you can get for the fraction of the price.
Not only Low Rider S or other Harley models, but ALL premium bike models values in the used market are dropping including Ducati, BMW, and others. I guess that is why trade-in values are dropping as well. It's a good time to be a buyer...
I had a 2020 FXLRS and traded it in for a Goldwing. Got a FXLRST and that is the best bike I've ever had! Why people are trading in a Low Rider S is strange to me. It's Harley's best cruiser for the money!
You get nothing for any trade in. All they want is money for a new one. No matter what you put into your bike you will never get much out of it. This just turns people off. It is a sad game!
The values of all Harleys are going down fast because of their openly woke support in recent days just look what’s going on at Sturgis Harley. Davidson is the new Bud light. This is sad but true.
I think it also has something to do with Harley's CEO being woke and sponsoring some LGBT events. They should just keep making motorcycles and set politics or whatever agenda aside. Go woke go broke. Thats just my opinion.
S is NOT competing with the ST. It’s just a matter of how deep you’re willing to go into your pocket (at the dealership) for an S vs ST. Financing an extra ~$3k (for the ST) adds up fast after interest and taxes. S all day for me w that being the case. Currently just economy and market conditions taking effect on prices. Along with DEI bs from Harley.
@@IronBornRider there are a lot of alternatives that i liked at the same time, alternatives that didnt have the negative image. went with triumph in the end, feels like a much younger crowd
I e been worried about it to, next month I’ll be taking ownership of a new Low Rider that I put an absolute tonne of money into and am thinking I made a huge mistake but it’s too late to worry about that now! Just gonna end the bike while I can.

Updated softail models with significant improvements are coming out 2025/26.
That would be pretty cool to see
I rode the value out of mine. Keeping it. see if I can get it to 100,000 miles.
That’s the way to do it
It definitely is, I tried trading mine in and they offered me $11k for my 23 white sand pearl with abs and 2500 miles.
That’s insane!!!
