Henry Payne and I were paired together for the entire event. We are also friends. He was patient with me during every setup and shot and gave me all the time I needed to get my work done. Good review, but you got the S197 segment wrong. It didn’t start changing in 2010, it started in 95 with the S197 itself. That was the first year the Mustang rode on a platform taken from a premium car instead of from a hopped up econo car. The 05-14 had the same chassis with suspension tweaks as the platform went on. The Boss 302 suspension improvements can be bolted right on to an 05. 05 was also the first year a standard V8 Mustang had ever crossed the 300 net horsepower threshold. The change from pony (it’s never really been a muscle car except for a few specific trims in the early/mid 70’s) to sports car, began taking shape in 05.
Those are fair points, but I my point was that Ford really took a step in 2010, offering track packs and other features. That quickly ramped up in 2011 (more track packs and the Coyote 5.0-liter), 2012, (Boss Mustang, Laguna Seca package) and so on. Ford really wanted to ramp up sports car prowess as it lead up to the introduction of the independent rear axle car in 2015 (S550). Part of my position comes from the fact that I was an engineer, working on Ford Mustang at the time. I tuned the traction control and the sport mode stability control for the 2010-2012 model years.
The S197 did not start in 1995. The SN95 started in 1994. The S197 started in 2005 and the 2005 suspension was a complete redesign, not what was used prior. The SN95 suspension was a carryover of foxbody suspension. The 2005 suspension was much better with greatly improved torsional rigidity.
@@newfie-dean5803 That's correct about S197. And, in fact, SN95 was an updated version of the Fox platform. Not a significant departure. S197 was a huge leap in terms of structure for Mustang.

Lmao.. okay so lots of complaining about new tech (no I dont like it either but half of it you dont need to use). And as for the 500hp that never changed. They have been very clear about the hp for which models. GT gets 480hp stock, with active exhaust its 486hp, and the Dark Horse gets 500hp. I really like the Mustang, but its glory in speed has diminished due to the outdated gas-powered engine technology. Electric vehicles are much faster. Therefore, this will the last pony. In 2026, they will release an electric Mustang.

I miss analogue gauges. These giant screens are getting old really quick for me. Gorgeous car though.
It's crazy how much 20 years has changed. An 03 SVT Cobra put out 390 hp and 390 ibs. of torque. A modern mustang GT would gap an 03 SVT Cobra
