Wow, this was done 7 years ago .. I felt exactly as you mentioned, I would walk into a Korean grocery store and feel overwhelmed now knowing what anything is but thank you for this video. I am a newbie with Korean food although I been eating it for years but now for once I am getting to know the names and what they ingredients are for. Thanks Julie, this is a great beginner's guide and for starters .. :-)

I was one of those people that would walk in and out of the Korean grocery store. I'd grab green onions and grapes from the fresh section then packaged ramen then Pororo seaweed snacks because my kid LOVES them and rush out! This has really helped. I used your list to shop last time and my taste buds have been super happy ever since. Thanks so much for this. Only problem, now I'm addicted to goguma!!!!

Love it! Once every few months I go to an Asian grocery store and randomly buy things that look interesting. No idea whether it's Korean or whatever... then I try to make tasty foods from what I have. I've seen the pickled radishes, and now I have to have some. Thanks for the tip.

Loved it! Thank you! My friend made fermented paste in a jar. It was amazing! Unfortunately died without giving me a recipe. Looks like Ssamjang..she would sit on the floor with a ton of fresh mushrooms, anchovies, pastes, sesame, green onions, black bean..and put it in jars for one year. Sure wish I could make it again. I would love to know what it is. I would love to show you if you are in the Los Angeles area. Have just 1/2 C left!

Excellent information and wish I’d had it prior to some painful self discovery 😂
But only would recommend that you try and make your own Kimchi. I know I know, but having now made it, it’s not only an experience i don’t regret but the taste as it changes from
Day one , two, etc... is absolutely something to not miss out on!
It literally changes a bit every single day, and you feel very strangely protective and hoardy with your own batch 😝

Excellent! Just getting into Asian/Chinese/ Korean cooking! And H Mart definitely is an intimidating place. One thing I found is that on many products if you turn the package over/around there is English titles on the back, sometimes.

wow..I'm glad I found this blog of yours, it is very helpful. I like grocery shopping in a Korean Market but most of the time I don't know which one to buy..the items are written in Korean. Thank you..this is very helpful.

+Grace Welsh so glad you found this helpful. I don't really stick to certain brands, so you can be flexible on which actual products you buy.

Julie very interesting and informative information on Korean products whenever I go to shop at the store i find only Korean wording on the packages and not English and if i don’t know about it it’s hard to chose so thanks for the information.
