    I put one of those on my S10 when I lived in Wisconsin. Dealing with days where the high was in the negative double digits, it was a lifesaver. On top of that, instant heat was amazing lol

    Great info in this video. One of my back woods diesel starting tricks is place a hair dryer in the air intake to warm up the filter and suck in hot air. BFATE I bought up some more conex boxes and i probably post a video come spring of what I'm building.

    I have the stock block heater on my duramax but also use a battery blanket that plugs in. That helps a TON to keep CCAs up.

    Good day from Ont. Canada Good video. Also your frost plug heater is only 750 watts & circulating heater is usually 1500 watts. If you can get one for that kind of money send me 1 Thanks good video. I can't see how those magnetic oil heater really help start engine, helps heat oil. At the end your phone showed 134F, boy any diesel should start.

      You've never tried one if you can't see how they could work then. They do work and they will work miracles in rolling the engine over much faster than without one. The difference is instantly noticeable. This helps a carburetor provide a better mixture for combustion and it certainly allows a diesel to achieve ignition temperature as well. I related a story about our dip stick engine oil heater that saved our bacon at -40 F back in my younger days when I was then middle aged and laid up in a hospital and my cardiac ward roommate, a more elderly guy told his story about them when he was young and stationed in Alaska. He was issued a Jeep, the same style dipstick heater and a numbered post with a plug outlet on it to park next to nightly. Was told if anything bad ever happened to any of those three items there would be some serious hell to pay. He was one of many there and they all plugged in every night and they all started in the morning. 100 watts.

    I've had a Kats tank heater , on my 96 Yukon , 4 wheel drive, BUG OUT , truck , for 5 years now . Inlet to heater is from , lower right, drain plug , on block , and outlet ties to heater circulation hose . Sub zero , I give it an hour , and start from Passenger Side ! Just like it is Summer ! I'm going on 80 now , and need something for Winter !

    Funny... I live in Canada, and when it's averaging -25c for a week or more at a time, the Cummins truck I used to drive never had a problem starting, neither did the International with the Maxxforce engine. Neither of them ever got plugged in.

      It’s funny how some diesels are finicky about temps and some don’t mind how cold it gets. Oil thickness has a bit to play in this as well. You got some lucky ones!

    You forgot Russian style. You build a fire underneath the engine and wait for it to warm up enough to start. Ultimate win.

    Soviet method, make a fire under the engine, and leave it as coals all night long, so that in morning engine is nice and warm, plus as you are sleeping in cab you are toasty as well. Worked well on Soviet tanks in the field, as the engines are air cooled, so no water pipes to fail from cooking, plus the crew could be up and running in seconds as they were attacked.
    Great north trucker method, just leave the engine idling all night, engine is warm, cab is warm and you have power for TV and DVD player in cab.

    • @leebarnes655
      @leebarnes655 4 роки тому +1

      Great north trucker method is a fail without high idle speed included. 600 RPM "standard" idle speed will cool a diesel until its fuel gels and dies. But if the idle is at 1,000 RPM it will make enough heat to do all you say. 3 decades since OTR trucks in USA have a dual purpose cruise control, in the toggle up position it operates the high idle function. Heard a rumor that some of the latest diesel pickups now finally have this option too.

      @@leebarnes655 My 2014 RAM Cummins has that, but the dealership had to turn it on with their computer. I even have the snow-plow ready cold climate package. To activate it, I push cruise on. Then I push the SET button and it kicks up to and holds at 1k rpm.
