I can’t stress this enough. If you haven’t ridden a trail like this, it zaps your energy quickly. I guarantee he’ll have so much more confidence on similar or lesser stuff that he’ll look back on this video and know this is where he moved up a huge notch. Good job on both ends.
extraDELINQUENT a 250 on that trail really requires a lot more experience. If you’re not planning on buying a bike with more ponies, you might want to consider getting a Rekluse auto clutch. Most of the tip overs looked like you didn’t clutch it quickly enough and dropped rpms and chug tipped, basically almost stalled.
I have not seen Sub-D's channel, but the way you talk about his lack of experience, he did rockin'. I have always said that the better and safer street riders are the ones that have an off road back ground. It appears that street riding sometimes transfers over to off road riding, or he is a natural. Awesome job most of it keeping his feet on the pegs. And to be honest, the majority of the times he went down, I got the feeling he gave up on it. If he dug deep, I think he could have pulled those crashes out of his arse and maybe only had 4 crashes. Very well done Sub-D!!
I just watched this for the first time . I remember doing MS trail for the first time. I did it the same direction as this video. It’s all rideable, there is that one crux uphill. When you first see it , it looks like a rock face. Lol I remember not making it. Then literally sitting down and resting for like 30 minutes. Its probably 6500 ft. Elevation. So there’s that. It’s not the funnest ride, but the feeling afterwards is pure accomplishment.At the mid point, you are pretty much isolated, so be prepared for anything. Your buddy actually killed it his first time. I think a lot of riders turn around.
I watch all of Sub D's dirt videos. Cool to See his progression on dirt. He's got pretty good in a short time. Congrats to him and hope y'all ride together more.
I check them out on some trials bikes a few weeks ago to try that. I'm also heading out to Columbus Ohio with him at the end of this month for aimexpo Should be a fun trip for sure

Every Single Sunday 2018 Husky TE150. Check out my channel to see what I’m talking about. I personally think it’s rider skill that keeps me from getting up the harder climbs in 1 shot. I slip the clutch a lot but think it’s just the way it goes with a 150 (I’m not complaining though).
That is one of the few trails that I haven't done up in the Big Bear area... I want to try and tackle it after it cools off in a couple weeks. This was a nice overview of what to expect up there. Great video!
Trimming the seat foam down can make a HUGE difference in how it rides. I usually don't like to see bikes lowered, it makes them handle poorly and just isn't the right way to do things. But,for hard Enduro Applications, running 120mm of say is a good thing. But the bike just won't corner as well with that much sag Hope that helps
Used to watch Sub D all the time and then i drifted away for awhile, came back to youtube and first thing i see is Sub D riding dirtbikes. Not gonna lie that took me by surprise and i am amazed how well you did on your first hard trail, keep on riding!

I have short inseam like sub D myself. It always goes badly when I paddle. Once I embraced momentum and staying on the pegs; riding became so much easier and a lot more fun.
I've rode with sub delinquent!!! He is super Kool guy!!!! We rode the desert with him and fooligan and the kleb! Was a great weekend,we drove our ambulance/ bike hauler down from nor Cal!!!

great vid guys, great riding area. What pressure was Sub D running in his tyres? looked like his back end was skipping all over the place. good advice on softening up his sus too!
I dropped him down to about 10 psi in the back but he was running standard tubes and I was afraid of getting a pinch flat. plus he's lite, about 150 lb so it definitely didn't get much squish on the tire there's a lot more set up we could do to that bike, but only so much I was comfortable doing in the few minutes I had to change things before the ride
@@EverySingleSunday So you made it to engage later/with the lever further away from the bar? Interesting. But would that not prevent the plates from disconnecting fully on maximum lever pull? I was told to allow a few mm of pull to take up the slack in the cable.
@@Groot_G I honestly don't remember which way I made it go I usually run my clutch so it engages just a couple mm's past my fingers that are in the bar. Some guys prefer it further out, I personally like it closer in As long as there is a little free play when the lever is out, it won't hurt anything The further out you have it... The more likely bit is to fully disengage and not drag. You just need to find a Happy median.
Im sure they would figure it out pretty fast. They have so much natural skill. But, would be fun to watch for sure Theres a video of Pastrana doing Erzburg from years ago. It kicked his ass

Dude, this trail is a straight asskicker. I've been riding dirt for 20 years and I'd have a long list of falls too on this thing. Sub-D's got some stones! EDIT: Upon further inspection of the Ball Bearing Rocks and the Cliffs of Death, I'd just pass on this trail altogether. Stones!
Basically slowed his rebound almost all the way down and softened up his clickers are far as they would go.... Then set the sag for 115 He's only about 150 so the bike wasn't working well in the rocks for him This wouldn't be great for high speed, but is awesome for 2nd-3rd gear stuff The bike needs to be soft or it just deflects off of small things like rocks, logs, edges
You just have to keep the bike upright and let it do the work. For guys who are newer.... The mental work is almost as hand as the ride itself. Sub D killed it
He did awesome on that trail with that bike! I have a 2015 wr250f that I ride through gnarly terrain like that, I also have a TX300 and it’s 10x easier on the 300. Those Yamahas are great bikes but really tall and a bit top heavy. If he got on something like a Beta Xtrainer he’d probably progress much quicker and definitely get less worn out.
I agree. It's a great all around bike for most guys, but for the super technical stuff, it doesn't have the ability to lug around very well If all he was riding was tech, it would be wish to change bikes. But since he does other stuff as well, it's a solid bike for him
I let him take it out and play around on it for 10 minutes on some easier trails. That stuff might show up in his video, not sure. but, I weigh over 250 and he's right around 150 so my bike was still pretty stiff for him

I've learned to talk to the bike the whole time. I may sound like an insane nut, but it makes sure I'm breathing.

I got on his bike and needed to go through a challenging section. I needed the engagement set to where I run it so I wouldn't end up on my ass

I do laps on this trail for fun. It’s just known as a hard hill for big bear CA. It was a huge challenge for a street bike guy but he did great

What brand of bike ? Changing stock gearing to maybe 12front sprocket and 52 rear sprocket lower gearing to climb better !
52 is too big.. hits all the rocks. I run 12/48 which is the same ratio as a 13/52

Ive done it 4 times back and forth for training in a day . Also, they took out a lotto the hard stuff this year and ran a dozer through it.

On a trail like this you adjust clickers to 17 & 17 soft?
For his weight, full fast for compression and full slow for rebound. Keeps the tires on the ground as it's low speed
