    Coach Be and Nathan go head to head to compare their climbing styles, and test their skills on a tricky indoor bouldering circuit.
    At 6ft 5in, Nathan is usually one of the tallest climbers in the gym. He enjoys reaching past small holds, and moaning about bunched-up climbing moves. Coach Be, on the other hand, has to use her strength and technique to make the most of her 5ft 2in height, which often requires a different approach to big moves.

    I just wanted to comment because of the short clip of Hannah and Be arm wrestling. Please for both of your safety look up ‘break arm position’ in arm wrestling or have someone knowledgeable teach you. Too many people have had spiral fractures of their humerus bone , while just having some fun challenging each other doing exactly what you were doing. It takes much less force to have that happen then you would think. Be safe!

  • @bucketofchum5045

    It was amazing to see a shorter climber being so powerful! Love Be's arms 😍😍 definitely goals

  • @Siberius-
    @Siberius- 11 місяців тому +3

    19:45 - Hannah on the left is in break-arm position, like BIG TIME, that is an extremely dangerous position to be in. Coach Be on the right is also outside of her shoulder (you want the arm between your 2 shoulders), just not as extreme, and her hand is outside of her shoulder and forearm angled backwards, which means the upper arm bone is rotated a bit, and when that happens it takes much less force to spiral fracture/snap the bone a bit above the elbow. Then on a separate note it's more of a finger-battle since the grip happens to be wrong. Boy that was concerning to look at! lol. Goodness me. There's a few basic things to know with armwrestling, otherwise it's so very easy to snap the arm, it doesn't take much force at all.
    Armwrestling when side-by-side at a table like that, kind of forces terrible table positioning.
    Then there's the direction of force. You don't want to be pushing directly sideways like in the video. It's very rough on the tendon attachment point on the inside of the elbow, takes years to condition that for side-pressure. Plus it's just a weaker way to armwrestle compared to pulling and opening up their arm (much safer for everyone, too). There are professional armwrestlers who specialise in side-pressure, taking advantage of other armwrestlers who aren't as strong in that way since it's a pretty hardcore way to armwrestle, so it's a very viable strategy for them in that context.

    I’m always going to take more advice from short climbers because I think that short climbers are better at movement. Tall climbers are often able to neutralize balance by reaching and grabbing the next hold before moving. While shorter climbers have to learn to climb balanced because they don’t have that advantage.

    • @NathanBetts

    Interesting what Be had to say on the second problem and the difference in height. As a fairly tall climber with a negative ape index (189cm, -4 ape index), I always struggle with bunched up sit starts and my butt usually sticks out more than others on underclings but sometimes I can just reach a hold that others can't. It does feel like it evens out.
