Man! Thank you so much for posting and doing these! You’ve helped me with my amp choice and now this! 🤘🏻
My pleasure Mike. I'm so glad you found the video useful. My goal is to help people find the best gear that works for them. The Ox totally delivers every time .
I love mine
Thoughts on my situation would be appreciated. I live in an apartment and have some great tube amps do I need attenuation, but I also record and gig. What would the best option be for that?
Nice job I’ve been looking all three of these
Thank you. I highly recommend the Ox.
I bought the ox first and I love it. Then the cap x came out, and I seen all of these people giving it 5 stars so I bought one. The feel in my experience was the same. But the OX sounded better but the cap x had more of huge sound. Like you said. So they both are great. Good video and awesome playing.
Hey Markus, we'll read and respond to your comment tonight at 7 in our livestream.
Thank you for this comparison video, it really helped me narrowing down my choices. Also your intro description was very useful, it tells users "why do you want/need it".
My pleasure!
Direct comparisons start at 31:31
Captor X - 31:32
Ox - 31:58
Cab Clone IR - 32:34
Thanks! I don't want to watch the whole video, so maybe somebody can say if the IR was the same in all cases?
You’re playing keeps improving Jarrod!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I had the OX Box and returned it for the Captor last week, and I’m just so into the Captor X now, and the DynIR’s too me, sound terrific!
I’ll use mine mostly for recording, and for that the Cap X is terrific in my mixes! The attenuator works fantastically for all my Hot-Rod boutique amps too. No complaints from ,e, as of today.
Next, I’m going to be setting up my own UA-cam channel, as everyone else already have one…. lol
I guess I’m a late bloomer. Haha!
Thanks Jarrod, for all your help and hard work!
I remember us having conversations before your UA-cam channel started blowing up and you’ve ALWAYS been a level headed and kind guy!
Always wishing you the best brother and hope your channel grows and grows!
Best!always! ✌🏼
So good to hear from you! I hope everything is going well for you. Thank you so much for commenting. . I'm glad you got the best piece of gear that works for you.
I think this is one of the first comparison videos of stuff that there was an extremely noticeable difference! For sure the UA sounded fantastic. So did the capture X not sure which would sound better in a mix but I think they are both excellent but foe sure UA sounded awesome. The Mesa not so good very thin and tinny.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I really love the ox. The sound and feel are the most natural
Congrats on your effort and videos. If i may ask what amp do you use on this video?
Thank you very much. I used my EVH Stealth for this video
Great vid! The ox sounded amazing. I’ve had the captor for 3 years or so and I’ve been running in circles with it. It doesn’t feel or sound anything like a real cab (more so with my 5150’s). It’s a great unit for bedroom and maybe live use, but for recording it’s extremely overrated. I also agree that the wall of sound cabs are very processed and don’t sound nearly as good as IR’s. I really want to hear the OX compared to the boss waza TAE (with the same IR). I’m definitely looking to upgrade to one of them and I’m currently leaning towards the boss.
You are a mindreader. Thank you so much. Super cool.
Great comparison, just what I was looking for! Is it possible to bypass the ox software, completely, and use a third-party ir loader in the daw. Like GGD zilla cabs?
Yes you could definitely do that
Now that's a proper review - well done!!!
Thank you!
Makes me want an OX even more then I did. That price is just a bit too much from me so I will have to stick with my Captor.
Thanks for commenting. I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm sure the opportunity will present itself sometime in the future for you. And when it does, I know you'll like the ox
Hey Jerrod, did you check out the Boss Waza? Curious to get your thoughts on that one compared to the Ox Box.
I haven't yet but I definitely want to. Hopefully sometime in the near future I will get my hands on 1. They are kind of hard to find around here.
@@TONEWARSgearshow J, I just got a waza from sweetwater a few days ago and paired it w/ the KHE 8x4 (non FX) because my Fryette PS100 was giving me all types of feedback issues when pairing with the KHE. IMO the sound quality on the Waza are excellent running into a cab (haven't tried on my monitors) but that being said I like the idea of a system being more transparent and not needing to switch back and forth on the resonance and presence options on the Waza. I've also heard the effects on the OX are tier 1. Also, I'm not so sure about the FX loop quality in the Waza - when I select the FX loop the sound takes a fat dump (i've got a Quad cortex hooked up to it). Because of those reasons I'm going to try the OX and the KHE FX within the next week and do a little comparison. I'll be sure to come back to this video as a reference on how to use the OX.
@@EJH-jn6mo I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the Ox box.
That's really unfortunate about the fx loop. Hopefully you get it sorted out
Great comparison
Thank you. I'm glad you found it informative. Have you tried any one of these units? Which one are you going with?
@@TONEWARSgearshow I actually own a Torpedo Captor, it’s the version before the X so it doesn’t have have all the onboard cab emulations (except the basic speaker sim which isn’t great) but I mostly run it through my computer and use Wall of Sound as an IR loader. I’m pretty happy with it overall, but it’s definitely inferior to the Ox as you proved.
Dang missed this video . No boss tube amp expander ? I think that may be the best one. I may even send the Kemper back and get that instead . Kinda like the ox box simplification better though . Lot better built in effects with the boss though
Sorry for the late reply. When I get my hands on one of those I will definitely review it.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Ok cool thanks for the response buddy. I bought one and I like it. I sent the kemper back for it. One of these days I'll send you the promo video of my band so you can hear it.
@@JohnSmith-ef2sx my pleasure. Feel free to send that over any time. I would love to check it out.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Ok I'll email it to you ... Neither myself or the other chode smokers in my band put it on youtube.
Really good video comparison. A few points to make…
I admit the Ox at it’s far greater price did sounds fuller than the captor x and the captor’s interface definitely doesn’t have such fine eq features such as Q dials but the ox is more of a studio tool than a gigging tool due to its form factor and its more fragile design and every daw does have those features so it’s not like that kind of tweaking wouldn’t be done post tracking anyway.
Also, you really didn’t seem to want to raise that body dial or low mid dial of the captor’s Eq up very far at all which almost certainly would’ve addressed a large portion of the perceived difference in fullness of tone for the viewers between the captor and the ox.
Third, you go on to test the reverb… on a high gain heavy chugging metal riff ?! Come on now 😂. Otherwise, genuinely, really nice video and I really did appreciate your mention of the difference in feel between the two boxes. I’d love to play the ox and see what I’m missing in feel for sure. It can only enhance your ability to perform better whilst tracking.
Nice comparison, thanks for this. I've never played an Ox but I keep hearing the feel comments. The huge detriment with the Ox IMO is that you can't load your own IRs. Really limits it's usefulness for metal players especially. Their 4x12s aren't THAT good. Be cool if they added that feature in a future unit, but I know.. I know.. the Ox fans are yelling at their monitor right now fingers flying like "but that's not what they are about buy one of the other units". But looking at a lot of UA's catalog (preamp pedals etc.) they really don't cater much to metal players.
BTW.. the CabClone is just Two Notes licensed hardware under the hood, probably the same as the Captor IR loading (no DynIR obvs) without the extra software features.
When THINGS make you go Hhhhhhhmmmmmnnnnnn !!! Jarrod will EXPLAIN !!!!!!!
Wow they sound so different it's crazy haha The OX is the clear winner sound wise, but at the same time is it worth the extra grand compared to the Captor X? I'm not really sure to be honest. The features of the latter are great (the twin tracker opens the sound a lot) and it's more portable. Maybe it requires more tweaking than the OX to get a great sound from it, but I think you can get there. I'll devil advocate myself also though because since I'm a simple guy, the OX seems easier to dial in (love the fact that the mics are already in a sweet spot) and it seems to sound clearly more natural. But again, I know it's made for people like me who prefers real amps over modeling, but at that price...I'd definitely consider the Neural DSP Quad Cortex instead since the amps sound so real.
Hey Benjamin, thank you for your comments. I totally understand your points. The price is noticeably higher on the Ox. It really comes down to your needs.
Studio - Ox is the clear choice....sounds awesome even with no tweaks. That said, it tweaks are needed, it's very easy to do and the tools they give you are perfect. (The fx are also very good)
Gigging musician - the Two Notes definitely is more portable. You'll probably and abusing impulse responses over the cab emulations. They just sound better. The tone shaping options you have with this product aren't very good though. So I would suggest getting good impulse responses that we need very little tweaking if any at all.
It's still won't sound as good as the Ox but it will do. (It'll still sound good enough)
All that said, you could put the ox in a case and it becomes roadworthy.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thanks for your extra insight and it makes sense. I know in the long run that the OX would probably be the best solution overall. Maybe I'm not just ''there'' yet haha I can't get around my head to pay 1750$ CAD for it. Like I wrote above(cause i changed my initial message haha), I'd get the Neural DSP Quad Cortex to travel at this point instead of bringing a head and the OX. But for someone who reaaalllyyyy(like really) doesn't want anything modeling related and have this budget, yeah the OX would be better overall, then Captor X second. I hope you can try the Boss Tube expander also at some point! Cheers my man!
I'd like to see suhr reactive load against the OX.
I have the Ox and love it, but if I was in the market for an alternative, the Suhr Reactive Load IR would be high on my list. I’ve heard greet things about the quality of that unit.
If I get my hands on one I will be happy to do this
I mean I know we're splitting hairs here, but I will say he's using an IR, not an IR+ meaning he has no attenuation, which in a sense restricts being able to drive the amp/speaker(s) with a bit more finesse. I didn't go through the whole video so maybe this was mentioned, but attenuation does make a difference in shaping and controlling your sound, just saying. As for these three units, the Ox still sounds the best but would've liked to hear an actual CabClone IR+, if just to hear the difference between it and this IR model.
Thanks for commenting. You make some excellent points here.
@@TONEWARSgearshow I wasn’t trying to knock your video it’s very well done just something I noticed is all
@@tcos332 no worries at all. I totally get what you are saying here. Attenuation definitely changes the sound. One of these days I'll have to shoot out attenuators
Damn I bought the captor x . Ox clearly sounds better. You should do a blind test ox vs a real cab
Great idea!
Bear in mind that you can always use custom IRs. I am using some York Audio & Ownhammer cabs. Sound pretty good on my captor. The EQ I agree., pretty much sucks.
Ox box all day long for me. It’s just so good. Captor is solid but just doesn’t sound as real as the ox.
Thanks for commenting. I totally agree.
Not related to your content but everytime (lately) I watch your vids, the picture quality appears somewhat blurry, the YT settings are set at 1080P and the little gear says HD, yet it looks like 480 or 720P. This only happens on your videos and its only as of lately. Don't know if its on your end or mine. But yours is the only channel that does this.
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it. I will look into this
I noticed this too but have my setting on 1080 and switched to automatic and it seemed to smooth out the pixels a bit. I dunno maybe just my eyes…
Mesa!!!
thats a kiler fiff your playing, wow
Thank you!
