- In this episode of Marty Motoring, we installed the RR Racing and Motorsports Engineering Carbon Fiber Air Intake system for the IS 350. It cleans up the engine bay look and should provide us with cooler air temps and better air flow once tuned!

what exhaust system you using I have a 2012 is250 f sport
Hey Marty that wasn’t lifter tick you were hearing. It’s the injectors. I was a technician at Lexus when that car first came out and in the overview class they went over how loud the this new direct injected motor was because of the injectors firing off at such a high PSI. They retuned the insulation in the engine bay of the 3rd gen IS so you don’t hear it as much like in the 2nd gen. Enjoy your ride man!
Whoa! Thanks- that is awesome to know and was my suspicion...but glad to hear it from a tech! It makes sense!
12 year old car, can you believe it? Looks like a brand new design
When I got my IS, some people at school thought my 2008 was from 2014, definitely ages well. I always thought people knew how old it is cause of the 3IS.
@@amanwithaplan4103 nah alot of people have never even been inside a lexus is350 2nd gen. The car is a rare breed at least here in Mexico where I'm from. People think that my black modded 2012 lexus is350 f sport is a 2016-2018 model.
Good, informative video, sir. And a very nice IS350, by the way. I am considering purchasing this intake for my IS250, and this video answered all my questions.
Sick video man, love your cool music too! I'm getting one very soon :) and I can't wait!
Omg I just ordered mine 3 days ago!!! Thank you for this video!!!
For how much?
Thank you so much . I did hours of research and this is the best product out . Just order mine . Next is tune + headers . Thanks again your video and information was really helpful because I want the best for my is350 .
Did you get any sound difference?
Yes sir , sounds a bit more aggressive
mrdjvandal12 did you get a check engine light?
No sir no engine light 💡
Yeah I noticed that told gf to listen to our 2007 is250 had that same ticking noise, sick car 🤙 🔥🍁
I love the taillights
One of my favorite parts too. VLAND!
The GR and UR engines are definitely tick more than the older stuff.
Where can I get a nice but affordable tube pipe to fit in the original air box
Which mod you think is better for performance if i am going to tune
Rr racing intake tube with AFE drop in filter
Or
Takeda intake system
Hey Marty, any chance you can make a video on how to change the tire pressure monitoring system in the wheels? Thanks
Great idea - I had new ones put on my aftermarket wheels in April 2018 and programmed. But I can make a video explaining it all!
Do you think I NEED to tune my car that intake?? I got the 07 is250 AWD
I have the same head lights on my is250 i just bought and the main bulb is out. What do I research for new bulb size and do these share the same balist as the original ones?
Do i need the tune with this intake? Are there negatives if i dont tune like check engine light? Thanks in advance
Hi Marty Motoring big fan here.
I have a query does that crankcase filter do any harm to the engine and what its basic operation please let me know.
Thank You.
Does the intake tube come with the crank case vent filter?
Does the tube sound like a short ram intake?
does it still make that whistle noise that the stock box makes?
The car is looking good bro, i plan on keeping my lexus for a while so i was watching all these videos of supercharged 350's and iknow it sounds expensive but i think thats something i might be doing in the foreseeable future.
Go with the ISF instead with your trade in. You are better off that way. If you want more power. Trust me....
@@is4life593 but the thing is ISF are really hard to find for a good price in los angeles. I would be spending 15k more to have less hp bro. But if the price was better hell yeah i would on a heartbeat.
@@ahberlowkz852 Yes I agree, I am in Australia and ISF's are quite thin on the ground and few and far between. Where as you can always buy a newer 8-speed IS350 and fit the supercharger kit later, gives you stock ISF performance which is ample.....
Supercharged IS350 would be sweet. RR Racing is only an hour from me and makes the kit. I may be visiting them soon and eventually want to do that as well!
Just got this for my 250only have a muffler delete hopefully it feels a difference you think? Getting that tune a month later coming up! 🙏🏽 😅
Yo Marty, in the video cut of your Dash and RPMs I noticed when gassing it your shifts are in the late 6-7000 without the tune. Is this because of it being a 350 instead of a 250 or modification. My 250 with ECT Power isn't changing that late at highspeeds with K&N drop in and straight pipe.
Yes. The is250 motor compared to the is350 is apple to oranges other than they are both made by Lexus.
Your car is so cool
Aye Marty! I hope you check out my comment, great vid. Question though, do you know how long that K&N crankcase ventilation filter lasts? Maybe 15k or 30k miles? Anyways you've had it on for sometime now so I was just wondering. Thanks!
Hey man you've mentioned how you may go with the RR Racing tune. Please do, would be very interested in the installation process ass well the end result wether it was worth it or not.
Definitely would make a video about it! Hoping to have RR Racing themselves install it and explain the process on video, as I’ll be linking up with them soon!
The lifter tick? You dont read much do ya, oh Pennsylvania nevermind, that sound is the 1000 psi fuel pressure at the rails/injectors. And wheree was the hole?
Is it just a small hole to drill under the lower air box? To get the previous f sport sound. Or how big is it on the second gen f sport box?
I have the F sport box now for this gen and the hole is huge and square actually. But previously I replicated this by drilling a 2 inch hole in the front of the lower airbox, behind the headlight.
Question? To your knowledge, is this legal in California? I know it’s not the intake itself but I’m trying to pass smog 😭
Hey Marty, I have an 07 is350 and I'am planning on buying a R&R racing tube with a F-Sport bottom air box. My question is do I have to get a R&R racing tune? Hope you can reply.
I like that setup, been running it all year with no issues. Some have had issues with a similar setup. I don’t have the tune though.
For your H&R springs, did you leave all the stock parts other than the springs (such as shocks)?
Originally yes, but my stock Tokico struts leaked after that. So I replaced them with Sensen struts which sit a little lower for some reason. I’ll hopefully be switching to ISF struts soon but keep the same springs
Hey Marty... Quick question: where exactly should I drill the hole in the bottom section? (example: in the front facing the headlight?) Keep doin' what yer doin' !!! Love this video ! ! !
Did you ever figure out where to drill the hole? Or how big?
good job bro, get it tune soon! we want to know to know how fast this car can perform from 0-60
Simon Chan Stock numbers are under 5 seconds so I’m not sure how it’d be with the tune
2nd,
Where did you get it from? Anything we can add to make the lifters more quite?
Their website has it on sale as of right now!
I’m not sure there is a way to make the lifters quieter 🤷♂️
www.rr-racing.com/v/mobile/product.asp?productid=ISXITK0001
Question, I want one of these for my manual 07 IS250, do I absolutely need the tune? I’ll be honest I dont care about much power as I have a 250 but the sound would be cool lol
Worth it?
Did you end up doing it? I thought the same thing you did. From what I understood all I need to do was drift a hole and I get the sound of an F sport?
Hi there ! Can you please tell us what kind of black paint is that? Looks so good..is it jet black ?
Just the factory obsidian black from Lexus
looks good
Thanks man 😎
What’s your exhaust setup?? I was thinking of doing a midpipe delete but don’t want it to be too loud
Resonator delete/replacement with pipe and an Lexus F Sport Exhaust
Sick dude i just got the invidia midpipe 🤤
stock axle back? how does it sound?
@@ashtonbrown6089 nah bruh muffler delete. Its loud af
Just straight pipe it 🤷🏻♂️that’s what I did sounds nice
Hey man, love the channel! I was noticing on your navigation screen while you were driving that you have a sort of dark mode going on while the map is up. I was just wondering how you got it that way. Because on my 350 I always have to switch to a different screen because the white accents on the navigation screen just blinds me at night. Plus I think it looks a lot better in dark mode. Hope to hear from you keep up the good work!✊
Thanks! If you turn the little dash illumination dial to the left, right after the click, it’ll stay in an auto adjusting mode instead of fully bright
@@MartyMotoring wow I'm dumb, thanks lol😅
Thoughts on the Timing Chain cover leak on these IS350’s.
Means?
did you purchase the intake directly from RR-Racing? Just trying to see if its cheaper anywhere else before buying..
Yup right from there site. They are the only ones that make it and sell it I believe
Is this with just the intake and no other mods? Looking to add an intake on an otherwise stock car
Just changed the filter as well
Is it okay to remove that mesh wiring on the top part of the intake box that connects to the intake tube?
That’s actually the throttle body gasket and helps with air turbulence I guess. I wouldn’t remove it since it is part of the gasket, which is required for a good air seal.
Marty Motoring So it’s a Nono to remove the mesh wiring on the top intake box? Wouldn’t it restrict airflow ?
Looks good!! Have you tried using Royal Purple oil?? It helps with the noisy lifters.
That's what I hear! I may switch to that or Mobil 1 synthetic for the future.
@@MartyMotoring I tried Mobil 1. It's not as good as Royal purple oil. Its quieter and I gained better gas mileage. Trust me it's worth it. I buy it at Walmart its cheaper there.
When you purchased did you have to pay extra? I was looking at it online and to add k&n would be a extra 60$
I just got the tube itself since I had an F Sport filter - but yes the KN filter is a separate cost.
What exaust system do you have and where did you get it from
I have the Lexus F Sport "v1" axleback with a resonator delete. They are available on eBay last I saw
Btw bro if the car makes all of its power at 5300 rpm you should change the shift light to 5300
I forgot to change it after resetting the battery haha - but I think it makes all 306hp at like 6200 rpm so I may do that instead.
Would I need to take my is250 to a dyno to find out what RPM I should set mine to?
Nice install man. How much you think you’re putting down to the wheel?
Well crank is 306. The light mods like exhaust and intake probably don't add too much....Maybe like 270 wheel? I'm sure that'd be better with a tune.
have anyone tried www.monkeywrenchracing.com parts on your Lexus is?
Can you make the the is350 as fast as the isF 350?
There is the IS350 and IS350 F Sport trim with a few performance upgrades. They have a 306hp V6 engine.
There is no iSF350. There is the IS-F which is a different model car with a 5.0 V8 engine and 416hp.
The IS350 would only be faster than the ISF if supercharged, which people have done
My RR Racing tube will be her ein 2 days. Thanks to you. Anything I need to be leary of when installing? Obviously the battery/ecu reset is critical. Did you notice anything odd after the first run or two? Did everything seems to "learn itself" after driving for a while? Also, where do you recommend cutting the air box? Thanks again for everything!
Nevermind. I re-watched again for the 4th time. lol..and you described where to cut the whole perfectly. Thank you.
Nothing odd, running great! It does relearn a little bit after the reset but it wasn't noticeable or different from any other time I've reset the battery. Yup, the whole is right up front on the bottom part. I bought a new airbox so I can make a video for everyone soon lol.
Do I need the tune ? I just want the intake why is it recommended I have the tune?
Well, with the increased airflow means increased combustion and fueling and the tune will help with that. You may get a Check engine light without it
That tick is the high pressure fuel pump, it's normal
Does it give you the induction sound like the k&n intake or sounds batter then the k&n
Well that induction sound comes from the come design, not really the tube. For my car, I have the F Sport box which gives it the induction sound
@@MartyMotoring tbh I drilled a hole in the box rn and I watched your video and I works
Yikes I kinda regret having an impala for my first car now.... i should get a is250 now 🥴
do you need anything else with the RR intake? i just got my 11 is350 and want to order i feel like i need something else
They recommend their tune but I never had an issue without it
@@MartyMotoring never had cel light?
@@ExFalCie no but others reported they have without the tune
RR Racing should just sponsor a video with a free tune, you're the IS 3 fiddy guy on the tube brah
Haha that’d be nice
Lol the lifters and injectors are quite noisy in the 3.5 v6 even the 2.5
I knowww. I can always hear my gs350's injectors and lifters and it's kinda annoying tbh
All the time lol
What wheels are those?
OptionLab R716 in Noble Grey. 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear! 35 offset
You planning on getting the Vland led headlamps?
My VIPMotoz headlights haven't given me any issues and I made a video on them, so I think I'm going to stick with them for now. If the Vlands come down in price and I see them/like them in person, I'd consider it!
Was the other intake tube stock?
I thought it was when I got the car, but pretty sure it was a Joe Z brand one. The stock setup is plastic.
@@MartyMotoring are you gonna be selling it ?
Did you're check engine light went on? Mine did after the install saying it's running lean
Mine hasn’t, but I’m hearing recent reports that others are getting a check engine light when not tuned. Maybe my car is a weird exception...but I will make a disclaimer.
@@MartyMotoring I was considering purchasing the RR Racing Intake. However, after reading this comment, I've become a bit skeptical. Based on your understanding, were others able to diagnose the check engine light? Perhaps due to improper installation?
Shawn Cao Is that you’re 3is 350? And that’s weird it just replaces the tube part and taking the maf is easy work to remove without breaking it.. did you get this resolved..????
@@genieacura no I have a 2is IS350 but the intake is making the car have more air then fuel..I'm assuming that's why it's better to buy rr racing tune with the intake...plus I have a f sport filter too. Only way to resolve this is getting there tune so you can add more fuel
@@LordCaim123 well I have a f sport filter too is the reason...the problem is that I need to buy the rr racing tune so more fuel can be added
Hey Marty, are you keeping the aftermarket intake tube you had on? Or will you be selling it
Hey Addison! I may be selling it, I haven't decided yet. I want to see how well this setup works first. Feel free to shoot me a message on Instagram to remind me!
I appreciate the reply man, I don’t have an Instagram, would I be able to message you on Facebook?
Addison Ruiz Sure! Www.Facebook.com/martymotoring
Just sayin, there is no such thing as "resetting battery" what you were actually doing was resetting the ECU memory. More over you didnt gain any more airflow by just replacing the intake tube because your intake filter is still the same, the only significant modification in this process was not venting the crank case vent to the intake which in the long run is gonna be very positive as your throttle body and sensors wont gunk up.
btw nice video mate .
I meant resetting the ECU but probably said battery 😂 Removing the carbon filter element in the intake is supposed to help gain airflow - but yes - I probably didn’t gain much of anything in air flow. Lol. At least the tube looks nice, and yup - the crank case venting should prevent gunk! 😁 Thanks for the comment and for watching! 👍
hey does your is350 have that startup rattle
I think my is350 is not stock cause my car sounds way crazier and not from the exhaust
What the hell...!!! I thought RR racing intake tube is only for 2014 and up is350 it even say it on their description thats why I bought the f sports instead... smh
The F-Sport setup is still really nice! In their description, it listed the 2006-2013 IS350 as well.
Whats your exhaust setup?
Resonator delete and Lexus FSport V1 axleback
this design looks better than the new ones. That big grill in the new lexus are so ugly
You should put the NIA facelift front bumper on your car...
Gross the 2is350 is faster and cleaner look why would you ever want it to look like a fake 3is if anything I'd do a isF front end conversion
If your not going to go FBO then don't get RRRACING Tune. You not going to reap the full benefits of the Tune unless you're full bolt on. Other wise you'll be like so many other Isx50 owners complaining about tune.
Weapon1 ISF - I have the Lexus F sport axleback exhaust and this intake. Only other thing would be headers to get the benefits of the tune. Not sure what route I’m going yet.
Marty Motoring go rr racing supercharge route
U gain 5 horspower!
Wow! Congrats
And u paid $345!.
😬
It was only $120 for better looks and cooler airflow 😂 Not always about the HP.
@@MartyMotoring ok. Cuz i saw it for 334 $ i was like i should buy a afe intake full with round filter.
that and a Tein decal will get you minus 2 hp.
Definitely helped me when I had the car. Cool intake temps and improved hp over stock on the dyno
AMAZING how much money will people spend on useless junk
