Mk6 GTI Stage 2 Clutch Install! (Southbend Stage 2 Daily)

- Hello there! Today, we install Southbend's Stage 2 Daily clutch on the Mk6 GTI! Recently, we upgraded the tune on the Mk6 with Stratified's Stage 2 custom e-tune which makes a decent amount more torque than the stock clutch can handle. This was definitely one of our most cumbersome installs. If you like to rush things, like us, plan for a full day if not 2 days to do this. If you take your time and actually follow instructions, you should have no problem getting it done within 8-10 hours. Update video with details after the break-in period coming soon! We hope you enjoy! :)

How's the clutch held up as of September 26, 2022 and how's the clutch chatter with the SM flywheel? I'm considering this setup for my son's GTI MK6 with a stage 2 tune and would appreciate feedback on how it's holding up 2 yrs later. Great video too!
Clutch has been flawless! Unfortunately, the clutch chatter never fully went away. It’s only noticeable when the car is idling with the clutch engaged (like sitting at a red light in traffic), or on deceleration in a low gear. With that said, I’d definitely still purchase it again as the stock clutch was slipping way too much at Stage 2!
Little tip, loosen the subframe next time you are trying to pull a mk5/6 trans out. Keeps you from prying the heck out of the mating surface and wrestling with it for 30 min.
How much is this full kit?
Not sure how prices have shifted over the last few years, when we bought the kit it was around $1200 USD I believe
How can i get that cutie to work on my car ~.~
We charge extremely high prices for sub-par work
@@DubChasers it's good enough
Did you consider doing a new rear main seal? I that thought was SOP when you drop a tranny. How long was break-in?
Didn't even consider it, probably would've been a good job to do while we were down there! And break-in period was about 500 miles if I remember correctly
The reason you had a hard time removing the tranny is because you didn’t lower than engine so it can clear the drivers side.
Also you should’ve drop subframe much easier removal and installation..
Yo where do you live? I’ll pay you to install my stg I’m in southeastern Wisconsin
Appreciate the trust you have in our mechanical ability haha! Unfortunately we don’t typically do installs on other people’s cars from a liability standpoint, but you could try DM’ing Vincent on Instagram (@vincent_destefano) to see if something can happen
In my experience, is stock clutch has 6 mm triple square bolts. I would assume this car has had some clutch work done.
Interesting observation, don't remember what was on the car's service history when we got it, but definitely a good catch!
@@DubChasers I just installed a new South bend stage 2 daily in my '04 Jetta SportWagen. And as a side note, a luks clutch also uses triple square bolts. My new South bend has regular bolts, no triple squares

You never put the torque specs in the description 😂 lolol
What was the document you were following? I can’t find a mk6 GTI service manual anywhere.
You can find it. Just have to Google it and use the way back to get the download to work
what camera you use?
Sony A7III, it's an awesome camera for stills and video
Don’t know how many miles are on your car but you should have just taken the opportunity to replace your engine and trans mounts with stronger one. Stage 2 is going to destroy them. I’m not tuned and I replaced mine at 90,000 because they were shot. The fact you could more the mount so easily just with your hand means they’re already pretty weak.
Another Car Guy Interesting, we haven’t heard of engine/trans mounts being a necessary thing to do. I rarely get on the car hard enough where it would damage the existing ones. Thanks for letting us know though! Definitely gonna have to do some research
Dub Chasers If you’re don’t get on it very hard much then you might be good for a while. Just a thing to keep in mind if you start noticing a lot of wheels hop or if you’re having trouble getting into gear smoothly when getting on it. When I pulled mine out I could bend the rubber around with my hand so they’d definitely seen better days. Have BFI stage 1 mounts now and they’re do a great job without adding too much vibration.
@@glubibobi Good to know! Thanks for the insight :)
