If I'm not mistaken, the study that the EIA conducted was supposed to be over the span of four seasons which never happened. What happened instead was that we got short-changed with an incomplete survey conducted in a very slipshod manner. The Etalin Hydro-electric Project IS THE LARGEST SUCH PROJECT IN THE WHOLE OF INDIA, not just in the state of Arunachal Pradesh or in the North-Eastern region of the country. Consider this, the total strength of the Idu-Mishmi community lies in the range of a meagre 12-15 thousand people, that is taking both the Dibang Valley and the Lower Dibang Valley into consideration. If you just consider Dibang Valley then it's less than half of that number. It is obvious that a project of this scale will require a lot of manpower which will naturally be brought from the outside, last I heard there was talk of bringing in around 10 thousand labour force into the area which will easily render the local people a minority in their own land. You've stayed in Roing and have an understanding of how things are here, in Roing, and so I had hoped that you would highlight such issues in your video. I hope you'll take such issues into consideration the next time you make a video on this subject.
The video leaves out the most concerning and deadly impacts of these projects on our community. The entire population of the Idu Mishmi community is under 14,000. The Etalin project alone will bring around 12,000 people into Dibang Valley and they will stay there for at least 10 years. And this is just one of the 17 such dam projects planned in Dibang Valley! Many Idu Mishmi fear that the voting constituency of the migrant labourers will subvert the political will of the native residents, making the Idu Mishmi a landless minority in their own, and only, homeland. The Idu language, recently declared endangered by UNESCO, is also likely to be disappear. Please try to make an unbiased video next time 🙏

Failed projects like Teesta III, Maheshwar hydro projects are good examples of why discoms are terminating Hydropower investment. With most economic and sustainable alternatives like solar photovoltaic and wind energy in compare to thermal or hydropower, we are also looking at 80% discounted rate of the former to the latter, when you cut the cost of transmission and raw materials. According to a study by Manthan Adhyayan Kendra, the 6 year delay in the project will indeterminately impact the market dynamics as supply-demand will change over these coming 6 years which are to determine the future of the project and the place/people, add tariff to that and comparing overall costs, the study finds the project to be economically irrational besides other major issues that should be first priortised-- the demographical shifts and socio cultural impacts on the communities (both PAPF and the downstream). It is terribly wrong to presume PAPF is only the villagers in Etalin when in reality, all of us have to bear the future consequences of such poorly anaylsed idea of 'development'. We are well aware of the fragile terrain and that arunachal falls in earth quake zone V, our economy has started to open up but sheer exploitation of our sentiments and violation of basic tenets of social responsibility by corporates cannot be passed off as development. We really need to understand how much of development we actually need. Please understand that the rise in zoonotic diseases are directly linked with extreme deforestation and human interference. Covid-19 should have opened your eyes. You have focused more on pro dam people here. We cannot keep fearing that what will happen to us in future. We will have to take risks in our lives and not remain poor and ignored for the whole more generations to come. This is the time we take our own course by welcoming the project for the boon of the whole of Arunachal as this project is economically viable and can provide huge revenue, job opportunities, contracts, development of educational institutions, hospitals, transportations etc. to the locals and the state in whole. We must remember that some day, Govt. will scrap out our ST preference and when this happens, what source do have left for the time being?

We cannot keep fearing that what will happen to us in future. We will have to take risks in our lives and not remain poor and ignored for the whole more generations to come. This is the time we take our own course by welcoming the project for the boon of the whole of Arunachal as this project is economically viable and can provide huge revenue, job opportunities, contracts, development of educational institutions, hospitals, transportations etc. to the locals and the state in whole. We must remember that some day, Govt. will scrap out our ST preference and when this happens, what source do have left for the time being?
So here's what you are doing...you are saying we dont need to fear but at the same time you are expressing your fear that govt would scrap reservations? Really ? Do you see it ? Contradicting your own comment? Basically what you are saying is "we should not fear because we fear something else". Also competing in an examination or competing in your own home for identity and survival ...what do you prefer
Sources will have to be made ....we will need to work harder , more honestly, more diligently to uplift our society...we dont necessarily have to sell off our homes for development.

So please read all the other comments ....research on a dam of a similar scale ,cost benefit analysis, present status , and all and then come talk. PS. The world's largest dam the three gorges is still about 90 m smaller than this proposed ...so think about that.
