    Models with hazardous weapons are also important. I had a game where an opponent had a strung out unit of guardsmen with a plasma guy maintaining the link in the middle. After the model blew up due to overcharge, my opponent was forced to kill off half his unit, as the missing guy had split the squad in two.

    Excellent video again Trevy - really like how you explain concepts with TTS; really helps to visualise rules - I'd love to see many more of these types off video! :)
    One thing I was hoping they'd do / simplify for 10th is just having everyone check to be within 2" of another squad member (no matter how many are in the squad) but then have a caveat that all members of the squad must end their moves within a given diameter. For example, the furthest 2 members of the squad must be with 12" or 18" of each other - whatever works to prevent 8th edition conga lines but give bigger squads the freedom to move around terrain, wrap units etc.. a little easier.
    I guess that might end up make conga rings instead potentially but something along those lines would have been great.

    With the 7+ units, if you string them out with the triangular ends doesn’t this mean that if you loose even just 1 unit the entire unit will essentially unravel and only have 3 units left at the end of the phase?

    • @bulldozer8950
      @bulldozer8950 6 місяців тому +1

      Yes. You actually kill off till 5 because at 5 they’re in unit coherency if they are within 2 in of one other model, but ya you probably lose a lot. Your normally want middle ones to actually be within 2in of 3 for that scenario unless you either are confident they won’t lose any models, or don’t care if you lose any at that point (for instance there are some situations where denying that area or deepstrike with a cheap unit is far more important than 4 models of the unit so you don’t care if you lose them to unit coherency)

    Okay, help me out. If you have triangles on the end, which model do you kill off first if/when it loses a model. You would lose coherency to 6 models, or what am I missing?

    • @TerrorbyteTC
      @TerrorbyteTC Рік тому +2

      This is a very important note. Enemy shooting phase gets a lot scarier if they only have to pick off one or two and it ruins your unit coherency to huge effect

    • @TerrorbyteTC
      @TerrorbyteTC Рік тому +1

      Wait, just got further in the video. It only matters after moving. Never mind 👍

    • @jimtilley1516
      @jimtilley1516 Рік тому

      Is there not a coherency check between your opponent’s shooting phase and your turn? It’s a cool mechanic for the aura extension. But what about a couple shots from IDF? Meh. I’m just new.

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Рік тому +6

      A single lost model would force a coherency check at the end of that turn, but you'd only have to lose 3 more models
      It's important to note that the units that are typically strung out like this rarely worry about coherency checks because they're so fragile they're usually dead or lose enough models so the coherency check doesn't matter after one or two attacks.

      @@TacticalTortoiseIf my opponent was doing this with multiple units I'd just split fire with a high bs with the goal of killing just one or two either one works

    Question:
    If I remove a Character model after failing a Coherency check at the end of my turn, does that score the "Assassination" secondary objective for my opponent?

    • @justinking1275
      @justinking1275 Рік тому +1

      models removed due to coherency count as being destroyed. Assassination is worded that a model has to be destroyed that turn. So I believe it would count towards it.

    Question: the tactical squad example, if the nid player charged and attacked. Kills say 4 tactical marines, the marine player can remove models from the opposite side of the engagement and could theoretically take the second unit of nids out of combat and potentially outside of pile in range making the second unit of nids ineligible to attack. Is that correct?

    Question: With the new Spacemarine Spearhead detachment stratagem, that allows me to move 6 inches when enemys come close. Can try to move out of coherency to remove modells to get further away from the enemy... is that right?

  • @frankcandeloro44

    If a 10 man unit is shot down to a 4 man unit, are they still required to have 2 within 2 or does it drop to 1 within 2? Awesome video!

    • @harryhicks
      @harryhicks Рік тому

      I believe it is the latter.

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Рік тому +2

      Coherency cares about the current unit size, not starting strength.
      So a 10-model reduced to a 6-model would use 1-1 coherency

  • @achrislip
    @achrislip Рік тому

    So, then, through precision, you could theoretically force additional losses by targeting the center of your opponent's unit if it's strung out widely enough. Correct?

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Рік тому +2

      precision only affects character models; so that only works if they placed their characters at the center of the chain

    Thanks!!
    Please note, your line with triangles at it's end is very fragile.
    If you lose any(!!) one model in your unit, the model is no longer in a valid unit coherency. And on page 6 it says that on the end of every turn each player must remove models one at a time from their units that are no longer in coherency.
    Meaning your line would collapse down to 7 figures on one casualty.

  • @AndrewofCaliban
    @AndrewofCaliban Рік тому

    I just played an instruction game today with an employee who's said if there not in coherence at the end of turn the unit/s out of coherence will be removed and that includes a 5/5 split you'd lose half the units and you'd half to pick which 5 to remove, literally what I've just been taught today?

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Рік тому +1

      It was a learning game so they probably just simplified it so as not to confuse you too much - you can see the exact wording of the rule at 10:49

  • @JackDespero
    @JackDespero Рік тому +4

    I really want to believe that someone though they were very smart by putting their character in the unit touching the objective as a part of one of the triangles of a massive spread chain, and then the enemy killed it with a precision weapon.
    And suddenly, everyone except the three on the other triangle are dead, just by killing that one character.
    The noob version of it is just randomly removing one of the vertices of the triangle when taking casualties without thinking too much about it, and only at the end of the turn realizing that you fucked it up.

    What would happen if you declare a multi charge into 2 units. You roll high enough that all models have to base an enemy but this causes your unit to be out of coherency. Does the charge fail or do you resolve coherency at the end of the turn?

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Рік тому +2

      you are only required to base if doing so doesn't break coherency

    Considering how fast you are talking about really complicated rule topics, and the fact that not everybody is a native English speaker, it is important to have the visual aid, if you want to reach a bigger audience... Very nice video, this one!

    wouldn't you loose Coherency at the edges if one Model in the Triangle at the end is killed?

    • @TacticalTortoise
      @TacticalTortoise  Рік тому +3

      You would if you lose a *single* model; but if you lose 4 you'd be safe (since the unit would revert to the simpler coherency), so it rarely matters since these screens are so fragile

    When you described gargoyles being removed to get them out of combat you forgot that the marines can consolidate into you, in 10th each player can pile in/fight/consolidate in their own turn and during existing fights in your opponents turn

    • @TacticalTortoise

      No; coherency checls occur after the fight phase has concluded; so consolidation would have already ocurred.
