Fixing a Broken PCV Vent Hose and Solving a Common Vacuum Leak on 5.2L V10 FSI Audi S6 C6 and S8 D3

  • Dear viewer,
    In this video I am showing a common point of vacuum leaks - PCV system and more specifically the plastic hose. Because of the fact the hose is made of hard plastic, due to thousands of heat cycles, it becomes brittle and falls apart thus allowing air to sneak into the crank case.
    Unmetered air entering into the engine can cause rough idle, intermittent CEL (check engine light), loss of power, hissing noise from the engine. If the PCV valve itself is the issue there might also be excessive smoke coming from the tailpipes of the vehicle. Considering all of these potential issues, it suffices to say that looking over the PCV system periodically is not a bad thing.
    The repair that I am showing is applicable to any Audi A6 C6 from this generation 2004-2011 and not just the 5.2 V10 FSI. Still, this issue is more prone to happen among vehicles with bigger engines, such as the 3.2 V6 FSI and 4.2 V8 FSI, as those produce a lot more heat in comparison to the four0cylinder ones.
    As always, if you have any questions please leave a comment in the comment section below and I will do my best to answer them. If you liked the video and found it helpful please leave a like and consider subscribing. Thanks!

    Hey man, I got a ESP Fault. My EPC also lights up together with limp mode. I doscovered that some hoses were wet when the problem was there. When i clear the codes, the car drives normal for a few minutes untill they come back on.
    This moring the hoses were dry. I test drove it and in about 10 minutes threw codes again. And yes, the hoses were wet. Do you know what these are for and if they are supposed to get wet or might this leak be the problem?

      Hey man, yeah, these hoses on the picture you provided are for the AC. From experience the ticker one is the low side, the thinner one is the high side. The wetness on them, to me at least, seems to be from condensation, which is strange. Firstly these hoses should be bone dry. Secondly, the AC hoses shouldn't have anything to do the limp mode and certainly shouldn't bring up the EPC and ESP lights. You said that you cleared the codes, what precisely where these codes for? Can you write them up here for me to check up?

      @@EndlessMotorWorks Hey,
      Yeah the hoses might not be the main problem. They just stood out to me for being moist.
      My fault codes are
      P1923, P3028, 01316, 01314, 01592. After clearing them they came back pretty quik. At first almost immediately, and then after just about 2 or 3 minutes. But now it takes about 2 days before the codes and limp mode come back on. When in limp mode the engine is sort of struggeling to stay on. Not really struggeling but I see the idle go a bit lower than normal and then coming back up.
      Doesn't matter if I drive it normaly, floor it, engine cold, engine warm. It seems to show up randomly.

      @@DJSPYROOF Ok, so based on the codes there are at least two things going on. The last code 01592 is for the HVAC control module. Quite a common failure point. There are repair kits on ebay for those units. The first code P1923, at least from what I was able to find out, suggests an issue with cylinder 8, most probably it is the sparkplug, the coil, or perhaps both. P3028 is for a throttle body issue. Check if both are working properly and if the connectors are in order. Those wires tend to get loose inside the connector and cause issues. The other codes seem to be related to these and get triggered automatically.

      @@EndlessMotorWorks Ive let my mechanic check it out. Everything is normal and we cant reproduce the fault anymore. And all numbers are normal in a test drive. He cleaned the throttlebody to be sure. It might be because of a company my car was a few weeks ago. When i got it back all my settings were gone too. So he thinks that it needed to readdapt auto relearn to the values. Thanks for your help tho!as for the HVAC fault, im gonna keep it like that as everything works normally there aswell. Cant find anything wrong with it or not working

      @@DJSPYROOF It's good to hear the issues have been resolved. To be frank I had an HVAC code a while back as well.

    Hey thank you so much for this great video which saved me a lot of money and actually got me a better part. But just a correction I think you meant to say 3/4 for the long hose and 1/2 for the short. I tried to put 3/8 over the pieces and it didn’t work. But the 3/4 worked perfect. I got the hose from autozone.

    • @EndlessMotorWorks

      The hose I got was 3/8 interior diameter and as you mentioned, it is a bit too small to fit. However, I dipped it in hot water and stretched it in order to make it work. I wanted to have a more mailable hose that would be easier to rout in the engine bay. If I remember correctly, I did mention that in the video.

    Thanks for your interesting videos!!
    I have a crazy loud whisteling noise coming from the engine when its hot.
    When i open the cap where you refill the engineoil, the sound immediately stops.
    I let Audi replace the PCV Valve but nothing changed. I will have a look at these hoses and maybe do the same replacement as you did.
    In a comment you mentioned that there will be a video of you disassemblying the intake manifold. I'm very interested in that!!
    Come up with new videos on this car! Helps me a lot!!! Thank you!!

      I am happy to hear that these videos are helping you. I need to edit the intake manifold disassembly video. Hopefully I will get around to doing that this weekend so that I can finally upload that as well. I know quite a few people are waiting to see it.

    I would like to diy this as well. I was hoping you would show exactly where to remove the POV valve and hose on both sides.

    • @EndlessMotorWorks
      @EndlessMotorWorks  4 роки тому +2

      The PCV valve is relatively easy to remove, despite that the lower screw is difficult to reach. The screws are T30s and are three in total. I heave another video in the pipeline on removing the intake manifold and flap delete. I show how the PCV valve is to be removed in there. The video should be up in about a week.

    If you can also provide the hose length and size and hose type that would be awesome. Keep up the videos they are great! Did you replace your oil separator?

    • @EndlessMotorWorks
      @EndlessMotorWorks  4 роки тому

      I will measure the hoses tomorrow and get back to you with the exact lengths. The oil separator was fine on my car so I did not replace it. Just had the hoses falling apart.

    • @EndlessMotorWorks
      @EndlessMotorWorks  4 роки тому +1

      So I measured the hoses. For the long hose go with 45 inches and trim from there. This hose is 3/8'' interior diameter. The shorter hose is about 5 inches and is 1/2'' interior diameter. Hope this info helps you out.
