For such range, almost all of the voice actors did a really impressive job of keeping the spirit of Fred.
Especially since voice actors are not immortal
@@calebi3835 exactly
M-mega man x?
I’m actually surprised from James Arnold Taylor’s performance, he’s already a great voice actor but his Fred is incredible. You’d think he would be in more Flintstones stuff
@@47Cartoonguy And I'd think he should be in more Flintstones projects
I do like John Goodman as Fred in the 1994 live action film version of The Flintstones
I like John Goodman as Fred Flintstone in the 1994 live‐action film version of The Flintstones way better than Mark Addy!
@@bertinajones7673 Yeah I agree
Honestly, this might be one of the most seamless voice evolutions I've ever heard. Everyone did a great job replicating Reed. Menville might have the most unique take, but it's also supposed to be a kid voice, so it makes sense.
He sounds like Robin 😆
Meh. Not a fan of Bergman. It works okay if they're going for a different voice, but when he voiced classicly drawn Fred, it sounded weird. All the rest stayed closer.
@@ZipplyZane The Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs clips sounds pretty good, imo. Other than that though I agree with you.
I think Scott Innes sounded the weakest
Do a Hanna-Barbera Evolution like
Top Cat
Jetsons
Yogi Bear
Smurfs
Dave You got this!
One of my favorites growing up in the late 70's and early 80's and Mr Reed was ànd will always will be Fred flintstone to me
Corden and Reed sounded pretty similar. Also, have you noticed that Fred has a bit of a New York accent? For example, when saying "Barney," it sounds more like "Bonnie." The "r" is silent. It's probably due to Alan Reed being a New Yorker himself.
and of course Jackie Gleason (Brooklyn) was at the heart of the impression to start
Notes:
The 1966 Film is Called "The Man CALLED Flintstone".
Notes:
Obviously a small ERROR
Yabba Dabba Gooooood catch!!
I thought John Goodman was the perfect actor as Fred
He was
He sure was
The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas is a prequel, not a sequel.
Especially John being big and tall
You are out of your element Donnie
I always loved Maurice LaMarche's performance as Fred in Harvey Birdman. He not only imitates the voice well, but also adds a little sinister undertone since he's (allegedly) a mob boss. Interesting side note, the writers of Harvey Birdman were told that no "headliner" Hanna-Barbera character could be convicted of a crime on the show, which is why the episode ends the way it does (no spoilers!)
So weird hearing Robin’s voice in Fred’s body 😂
EXCELLENT video! Personally, I love all of Fred's voice actors as they each contributed to his legacy ! YabadabaDOOOOOOO!!!!!!
While Reed does sound quite a bit like Jackie Gleason, he did seem to make the character’s voice a bit deeper at times so that it didn’t seem like a direct copy. Reed was a great actor with lots of range; there are quite a few episodes like that doctor one where he had to change up his voice a bit to fit the situation and he could do it very well. Reed’s voice is the one I’m most used to, and the one I prefer.
In the pilot, Butler sounded a lot closer to Gleason, which isn’t surprising considering he was well known for his imitation skills. As impressive as it is, I’m also glad they didn’t go in that direction, as it does feel more like a direct copy of Gleason compared to Reed’s slightly more unique take. I went to check that 1970s record Butler did as Fred to compare, and Butler does actually sound quite close to Reed there. Just another example of how versatile Butler was.
Corden wasn’t necessarily bad, but his interpretation sounded a lot more nasally than Reed’s. I suppose he does deserve credit for trying a different interpretation, but it’s not an interpretation I’ve ever been able to get used to.
Bergman is the best of the post-Corden replacements, with LaMarche not too far behind. James Arnold Taylor’s case is interesting, because in the first two clips, he’s replicating Reed’s voice, and in the third, he’s replicating Corden’s. While I’m still not a huge fan of Corden’s interpretation, it is impressive that he was able to replicate both voices successfully. Like Butler, he’s a very versatile actor.
Innes is alright, but it doesn’t seem like he really had a ton to work with, so the voice ends up sounding a bit more generic than the other interpretations.
Comparing the Flintstones Kids voices, I would have to say that Weinrib sounds more like what I’d imagine a kid version of Fred to be. Menville’s not horrible, but his voice does sound a lot more generic.
My ranking (not counting Flintstones Kids voices):
1. Alan Reed
2. Daws Butler (1973)
3. Jeff Bergman
4. Maurice LaMarche
5. James Arnold Taylor
6. Henry Corden
7. Scott Innes
8. Daws Butler (Pilot)
Butler voiced Fred in a safety record released in 1973. You can find it if you look it up on UA-cam.
The record features many Hanna-Barbera characters in addition to The Flintstones, and with the exception of Wilma, Butler voices all of them, even ones that he didn’t originate like Top Cat and Boo Boo. It was most likely decided that it was cheaper to have Butler do all the voices (except Wilma) rather than get all of the original voice actors to reprise their roles.
Eh, Jeff didn't really sound like Fred until the Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs clips. His impressions, imo, ranged from alright to meh until then. I'd honestly like to hear more from James or Maurice.
For me, Alan Reed, and Henry Corden, and especially Jeff Bergman!
Jeff sounds like Alan Reed, which I love!
Love John Goodman. I wish he would voice the cartoons now. RIP Alan Reed, Henry was great too!
You've hit another home run with this video Dave! I grew up with Henry Corden Fred which I remember the most of but Alan Reed will always be the Fred I remember from watching reruns.
That was Fantastic Dave! The Flintstones was one of my Many favourite Hanna and Barbera cartoons!
The thing I liked most about Mark Addy's Fred Flintstone is that he's a British actor and that's basically his take on an American accent. I say that because he essentially used a slightly modified, less cartoony version of that EXACT same accent when he was in the American sitcom "Still Standing."
_"Barney, you tricked me out of my Pebbles?!"_
- Fred Flintstone
Happy 60th Anniversary to The Flintstones this year in 2020. Amazing there's alot of different Versions of Fred Flintstone in Every Dimensions from the last 6 Decades.
I think Henry Corden gave the most amusing voice to Fred Flintstone
No one can beat Alan Reed. Maurice LaMarche and John Goodman were pretty good too. Also, I feel like Dan Castellaneta could voice Fred.
This should be good, or..........some actor might sound like Henry Corden
Fred Flintstone: the best cartoon adult character
Also fred Flintstone: he celebrate Christmas before Jesus's birth
A man before his time
Lel, he celebrates the birth of Jesus Christone XD
If they celebrate Christmas back Jesus's birth, was there a stone age jesus?! **insert x files theme**
But wait oh, there is a prehistoric Santa so does that mean there's a prehistoric Jesus of Nazareth as well? Bad watching that Flintstones Fruity Pebbles commercial has gotten a whole lot weirder now
Unless you believe the cartoon conspiracy that The Flintstones isn't really in the past, but the post-apocalyptic future. Those dinosaur powered gadgets weren't innovations, they were recreations!
11:13 Lennie Weinrib was also the voice of other characters in the 1970s Pebbles and Bam Bam Show spinoff. (Those characters were voiced by Sally Struthers and Jay North.) He would also do modern voice acting in the 1980s, specifically ABC TVs Saturday morning cartoon segments as the voice of Timer as well as the voices of Prince Lotor and Haank on Voltron: Defender of the Universe. Before he passed away, the Timer character was spoofed on Family Guy, and Weinrib, who was in declining health, vaguely remembered voicing that character.
Nice work dave!
I like John Goodman, Alan Reed, and Jeff Bergman as Fred Flinstone. 😊👍
Question for you, would you ever do a voice evolution of Mr. Slate? I do realize he's the least popular character in the show, but I absolutely love the voice actor John Stevenson! Not only has he contributed so much to Hanna-Barbera, but other cartoons as well! From playing the 2nd Dr. Quest, to even The Great Goblin, Bard the Guardsman of Dale to even The Witch King of Angmar!
Awesome video!
Jeff Bergman’s Fred Flintstone voice is kinda inconsistent.
Agreed
I liked him. His Foghorn Leghorn like voice kinda suits the character. He's my favourite cartoon impressionist.
@@calebi3835 Did you know that Jeff Bergman did a great imitation of Alan Reed's original
Jeff Bergman kinda really sounds like Alan Reed who was the original voice artist of Fred Flintstone from 1960 to his death in 1977
He got better with each project
This was such a GRAND, HIGH QUALITY video, i'll give it a 1992 out of 1
Alan Reed and Jeff Bergman are my favorite Fred. John Goodman was a perfect live version.
I honestly forgot fred had a voice, I think I just see him as cereal
I do like Henry Corden as Fred in A Flintstones Christmas Carol
Henry corden also dubbed jackie Gleason's voice in smokey and the bandit part 1 and 2 when there were swears he dubbed them out
"YOU SCUM BUM!!!"......so that was Henry!
Quick correction, Corden only retired from cartoons in 2000. He continued to voice him in pebbles commercials up until 2005 (which is why JAT was hired then.
Alan Reed
(August 20, 1907 - June 14, 1977)
Nice Voice Evolution Video
3:53 It’s me! The Lord Master!
The second actor had a recurring role on The Monkees as their landlord, Mr. Babbit.
I’ve got the feeling Dave should do an evolution on his Disney, explaining, cartoon and voice evolutions. Well once he’s done.
Dave sounds like he has a great cartoon voice himself!
Reed's voice was a bit thinner and higher than Corden, but were almost identical.
Since Henry Corden was originally from Montreal, Quebec, his Fred had Canadian rasp and was very folksy- speaking of Canada, on an original episode of The Flintstones, Henry portrayed Ben Cartrock, a stone age version of Bonanza's Ben Cartwright, he did fellow Canadian Lorne Greene proud!!!
Next voices evolution of Barney Pubbles.
Lennie Weinrib
(April 29, 1935 - June 28, 2006)
Fred Flintstone (Voiced by Daws Butler, Alan Reed and Henry Corden)
3:20
Fred: Hehe get that title, haha! The frog mouth haha
Henry Corden had done voice overs on the Flintstones cartoon before he took over the voice of Fred Flintstone
If anything, I'd be hard-put to name my favourite Fred Flintstone voice actor. Keep up with Cartoon Evolution, it's what you do best, especially when it comes to Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner and the showdowns between Wile E. and Bugs Bunny.
Awesome work Dave!
Alan Reed is the best I personally think. I'm biased cause hes the the one I grew up listening too in the 90s and early 2000s.
Can you do the voice of Who did The Frankenstones and pets ? Love the work you do.
I love these types of videos where it simply shows all the voice actors for one character throughout the years seamlessly! I Yabba Dabba Do want to see more like this! 👍
How about Jeff Allen Bergman, that played the voice in a couple of Family Guy cutaways?! I thought that depiction was the best I've heard in years!
thought Fred's catchphrase came from "Aba Daba Honeymoon"
Henry Corden
(January 6, 1920 - May 19, 2005)
9:46 Break Time? YABBA DABBA DOO!!!
11:37 - Anybody else hear something... different... with that line?
Fred Flintstones: Ya Dabba Doo! A someone who made watchtubing. :)
Which voice evolutions are you thinking to do next
4:34 YABBA DABBA DOO!!!
Jeff Bergman sounds more like Alan Reed to me
I agree.
Henry corden was freds singing voice during the alan reed years. Alice in wonderland and a man called Flintstone for example.
Hi, Dave. Do you think they'll ever do a Jetsons live action movie?
Well......ABC plans a live action Jetsons series are in the works, last 4 years they served us a pilot but this should be a lost media before a release date
Unless we got the Jetsons on metv
An interesting subject: The home appliances used in the Flintstones franchise. The baby mammoth vacuum cleaner. The pelican garbage disposal. The bird phonograph needle. The parrot office intercom. The monkey bowling pin resetter.
Also, their pets. Dino. Hoppy the Hopasaurus. Pebbles's baby mammoth. Kitty the sabertooth tiger, and the mountain lion.
10:53 "2016" Impossible, that episode was like 10 years before that, I'm sure of it.
it was
@@RyswagPlays Yeah, I clearly remember watching around 2005 or 2006 and I checked to confirm it was. A typo?
foldabotZ billy and mandy was on from 2001-2007 and this was definitely from a later season episode. Probably just a typo
@@RyswagPlays Probably because the clip used is from a rerun as it has the current CN logo in it as well. So her probably thought it was around 2016.
3:07 Alan Reed was a guest star on the Beverly Hillbillies. Even his speaking voice gave him away as the original voice of Fred Flintstone from 1960 to his death in 1977, the year of my birth. Also worth noting, Jackie Gleason took Hanna-Barbera to court claiming they plagiarized his Ralph Kramden character and the supporting characters from the hit sitcom. Unfortunately for Jackie Gleason, he lost the case.
Gleason never actually took HB to court… he did consider it, but ultimately decided against. He claimed he didn’t want to be known as “the guy who yanked Fred Flintstone off the air".
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Thanks for telling me that.
Grand.
❣️
This is like the favourite doctor in Dr Who but I think Alan Reed is the best.
Can you Do A Voice evolution Of
Barney Rubble?
He's going to do the whole cast
Scott Innes seemed the closest to Alan Reed
HOLY CRAP JEFF BERGMAN IS THE BEST VOICE FOR FRED AND ALSO JAMES ARNOLD TAYLOR AS WELL AS SCOTT INNES!!
and the voice for Fred as a kid is okay but i wish he was voice by a girl
it would have worked better
those guys rule.
The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas is a prequel, not a sequel.
My Ranking of Fred Flintstone Voices.
1. Alan Reed
2. Henry Corden
3. Jeff Bergman
4. Scott Innes and Maurice LaMarche,
5. James Arnold Taylor
6. John Goodman
7. Lennie Weinrib
8. Mark Addy
9.Scott Menville
John Goodman at 6?!
Bruh, he's the best person to voice Fred Flintstone
I like Jeff's voice, since that's the one I'm used to.
if the Flintstones are here, then the Jetsons aren't too far behind...
I like your avatar icon.
Voice evolution of Barney Rubble
I wanna see a Yabba Dabba Do evolution video now
Henry Corden was the landlord on The Monkees!
Catch that episode of Dragnet, with Henry as Emil Hartman- his furs were stolen before Sgt. Friday and Det. Gannon recovered them and apprehended the robbery suspects. You may call that Col. Potter meets Fred Flintstone, because Harry Morgan was Det. Bill Gannon!!!
@@michaelpowell5266 Henry also portrayed an assassin named Peter Mornay in the third season of Daniel Boone titled " First in War, First in Peace". You can hear Fred's voice in his speech.
I think Reed's voice naturally sounded that way
His voice naturally sounded like Fred
And CGi Fred someday..perhaps...with Flintstone flyer 😲
The production quality went down after the first few years of The Flintstones. Never noticed as a child.
The Flintstone they have their own cereal
Alan did the best for Fred in animated form and John Goodman live action.
Alan the best but Henry made it his own its so heartwarming
robins voice actor is fed flintstone great !!
2:15 *Prequel
Although I like Mark Addy, no one can be a live action version than John. Not even the late great John Candy which is saying something. I like Cordons as he's such a good replacement for Alan Reed you basically see the character and not different actors.
Alan reed was the fred i grew up with
John goodman killed it as live action FF
Jeff Bergman seems like the biggest departure to me but a lot of commentors would probably disagree. My ear is just picking up something. It seems off, higher pitched and unusual inflections. They're all good though.
Alan Reed was the BEST voice for Fred Flintstone, don't think you can beat him, but Henry Corden was good as well
For adult Fred: Alan reed
For young fred: Lennie weinrib
Jeff Bergman is ok but I like James Arnold Taylor's better.
I agree. Jeff didn't really sound like Fred to me until the most recent iteration.
Even though I like Henry Corden’s Fred voice he kinda half assed the “Yabba Dabba Doo”

2.John Goodman
3.Maurice Lamarche

Call me old school if you want but the first 2 voice actors are the best Fred voices. After 2000 all the other ones just don't sound right to me. So many bad impressions and none that feel like Fred to me.
What cartoon do you do?? You sure have a cartoon voice.
You forgot James Arnold taylor who was hand picked by Henry Corden to replace him
I didn’t forget him at all. He’s there at 10:43.
