I wish you would show more of your travels on the roads, Luke. The loads and strapping up, etc, are interesting, but I especially do like to see the actual roads and areas you drive around and through. I am disabled and had to give up driving last year, and I do miss it, so I really like videos showing travel!

About the under-promise, over-achieve, I provide over-the-road tire service to semi-trucks in the US. We regularly tell drivers 2 hours minimum. It gives us plenty of leeway, since we have a 1-hour-ish driving distance we service, about 50 miles any direction. This gives us at least a 1 hour bit of room to deal with delays, rerouting for additional calls that come in(grabbing extra tires), lending a hand with shop work before taking off, etc. Better than telling a driver 90 minutes and showing up 2.5 hours later. Drivers don't appreciate that. It also means that if a customer has been waiting 2 hours, it's much easier to ask for an arrival extension of 1 hour than 1.5 hours.

Shorehams always been a pain in the ass, almost as bad Tilbury. My gripes with the union and their old agreement with the Labour government was the so called night out allowance which although it used to be tax exempt their interpretation was that the driver, as well as using it to pay for his subsistence food, he was also expected to pay for parking out of it.
There was a law in the drivers rules that states that in order to rest up for a break there must be refreshments and toilets available. No doubt another rule they keep quiet about.
I got round the drivers allowance pittance by only working through my registered driving agency and stipulating overnight charges which back in the 1990s I charged £50.00 a night.
    Stay awake my friend.

15 mins after awaking you were driving, hope you were ok mate. Years ago i done a stint as a cab mate and this is going to sound really bad, it was, some of those drivers were big drinkers. One driver i went out with, we parked up around 6, and straight in the pub until closing, and then to a nightclub until 1am. I actually knew the guy socially, nice bloke, but almost certainly alcoholic. Got up around 5am and within minutes he was in the drivers seat. I remember trying to stop him, he was in no fit state, but i was young and had no choice. Not good and dind't stay in that job for long.

I live close to Shoreham Port and used to do a lot of timber from there. Used to park there most nights and walk home, wouldn’t want to pay £20 a night, you used to be able to access toilets and a shower in gate 3. It was always fun loading a at 3 separate quays especially when you had 3 to 4 drops, jigsaw time! They used to open at 7am but not start loading until 8am, then during Covid it changed to opening at 6am and loading from 7am. However, if you turned up in the afternoon they would often load you but it seems less likely now.
There was a change of Chief Executive at Shoreham Port a couple of years ago and since he arrived parking fees have been introduced even for lorries conveying goods for them! They have also built up their own fleet of artics displacing a few local operators from this work.
There’s a big white block behind The Cheese Man yard, that’s where Adele used to live as did Fat Boy Slim, Zoe Ball, Nick Berry and David Walliams, think Paul McCartney was also there some time ago.

Hi Luke. Out of interest how long do the straps last and do they need to be checked by a government body 🤔

Yes they do,and if deemed to be unsafe then you will be sent to prison for at least 7 years

Only need checking if they're used for lifting by a crane or hiab, otherwise, it's best to replace them if they start fraying or get damaged by sharp edges.

    Try having less advertising

      1. No adverts means Luke does all this for free. Yeh I’m sure he vlogs partly cos he loves it, but the small income from advertising makes motivation to continue.
      2. Not all the advertising is of the channel’s volition (not just Luke’s channel but all UA-cam) is for UA-cam and their own income. Luke will see absolutely nothing from some of those adverts.
