However, I do have some other books published by Word on Fire: “After Stoicism” by Thomas Ward, “Beauty and Imitation” by Daniel McInerny, “The Great Story of Israel” by Bishop Barron, and the 4 volume boxed set “Socrates’ Children” by Peter Kreeft. Regarding Bishop Barron: I’ve been an admirer before he was anointed bishop, and I have a few of his books from that time as well. I’ve also had the wonderful privilege of attending a mass said by him at St Emily’s in Mount Prospect, Il., and I heard him speak at St Procopius Abbey in Lisle, Il. (I live in Chicago.)

Does it provide more than that? I do have The Great Story of Israel but haven’t read it yet. I would have loved to attend one if Bishop Barren’s talks or Masses while he was still here in California. Hoping for another opportunity in the future. The WOF Bibles are quite stunning. I have all four volumes and will complete my collection as they are published. Thanks Robert 😊

It's really good, and each of the 4 volumes can be read cover to cover, or dipped into as the mood suits, or used as a reference source.You won't be disappointed. If you have read any of Kreeft's other books, you know what to expect: a gentle, fatherly wit, an ability to untangle and then clearly explain the most complex of concepts, and a man of deep abiding faith. I know this sounds like an advertisement, but I don't get any kick-back from it, hahaha, it's just that good.

11:46 I've heard that "a catholic commentary on holy scripture" by Don Bernard Orchard, published in 1953 (not to be confused with later version), is a great study bible. Might be worth keeping the crosshairs on that to buy it cheaper.
This looks like an outstanding Bible. How extensive are the cross references to the OT. It's really hard to get a Bible with good cross references to the entire RC OT (much less the Orthodox one).
I have shelves for Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and Anabaptist books. I also have a shelf dedicated to Shi'ite Muslim books, and one for Sunni Muslim books. There is also a shelf for Buddhist, Taoist, and Sikh books. Since you like books, I subscribed.
Yes, as a study Bible it has explanations, cross references, some historical references and language explanations. My purchase, as I recall, was around $70 or so, including shipping and tax. I hope this helps.
@@RionBraggs Get the hardcover man, the bonded leather on such a chunky study Bible might not hold up well long term, the sheer size alone takes a toll on any binding, let alone soft bonded leather. The leather version of the Ignatius Bible is amazing, but the study Bible is (in my opinion) too big to not have hardcover. The hardcover lays flat, too, which you’ll probably want from a study Bible if you’re gonna have it open while you multitask. Can’t go wrong with either one, but I’d suggest hardcover

I just took a quick look and the only difference that I found was a new section at the beginning of the New Testament entitled, “Introduction to the Gospels.” Everything else looks the same.

That happened around 1900 when the Revised Version of the KJV was released by those protestant scholars. They worked for about 20 or more years from about 1880 to 1900 to produce the RV both european and American Scholars. They all worked together to revise the Apocrypha and then when it time to release the entire work OT NT and Apo the Amercians excluded their own work from the RV. Now people think the Apo is a Catholic invention.

That's pure Catholic doctrine. The former talks about how the formulation of 'Faith Alone' is Catholic Dogma when interpreted as how the Church (and its Doctors like Aquinas and Augustine) interpreted it for millennia, and the latter talks about the incoherence of the Lutheran formulation of 'Faith Alone' with Sacred Scripture.

This demonstrates how faith resulted in some action. By faith Noah built an arc and so on. Many confuse this with the works of the Law which do not save.

Catholic Bible has more Old Testament books in it than a Protestant Bible.
@@daubiebooks63 Thats kinda true but is unique to the American KJV. The Europeans kept what is commonly called the Apocrypha ie Oxford Bible.
