This scene is just amazing. The talent of the actors is just fantastic. Ranken is so intimidating without forcing. I wish we knew more about their "relationship". There is real tension between these two for sure. They don't mention about it which makes the movie obviously great. A bit of mystery is always good as it leaves some parts open for interpretation. Jeez I love that flick. Ranken mentioning that the cons are worse than dogs is also interesting. Later in the movie Manny mentions that he is worse than an animal...that he is human. This goes beyond a pure action flick. I also remember at the end, there is a quote from Shakespeare that mentions that even a fierce beast can feel pity. There is a strong and subtle message about mankind here. Totally underrated.

I agree, warden Ranken is more scary than the Shawshank one imo.

It is good flick because it shows how the status system is in real life. It always taught me to stay away from the bottom level at all cost. It is grievous. It puzzles me why this flick did not get the credit it deserved.

It's because he crashed out of his prison twice already and soon a third time. It caused his prison to be completely out of control because he couldn't prevent him from crashing out 2 times and soon in the movie he crashes out for a third time

It is a great mystery to me why this film failed at the box office. It is 100 times better than crap I have seen succeed at the box office. It is brilliant in every nuance and criminally underated.I am just puzzled by human nature sometimes.

What always struck me in this scene, at the end, is when Ranken's face is illuminated by flickering flames, but when the shot angle changes, no flames are there. Ranken as the Devil himself, warden of Hell.

@@TropicApocalypse Good Lord, thanks a lot for the answer :D. I was looking for name of this song nearly .... my entire life xD.
Here's why - I am from Poland. In the '80ties when Poland was Polish Peoples Republic - and there was scarcity of .... more or less everything - my father made a diy door bell - with this very song. He told me that it was made out of broken electronic clock - connected to a door button (for triggering) and a loud speaker. So poor quality 8bit version of this song accompanied my childhood, and was always connected with nice memories of someone visiting us :D. Later we switched this diy doorbell to something less ... hand crafted. But at some point in time I was wandering - what was the name of this song that I heard constantly? My father doesn't recall the type of the clock he used for this contraption. And I didn't have any lyrics - so even when internet appeared - I was not able to search for it. Then I watched this movie - and by mere luck - in this scene - this melody was used :D. Of course still the words are for me hard to hear.
But now - thanks to you I got the name of the song. And after a 5 mins search I was able to find that it was probably the belorusian made "Elektronika 77 A" electronic hand watch. Like the one they are mentioning here (further down the thread on this forum page):

So one mystery of my childhood solved - now I can move to the other ;-).
Again - thanks a lot for reply and helping me.

Who would want to be a warden in a Max security prison like Stonehaven? I would want $400 000.00 per year minimal pay to do it.
