@@Noisemansoundinsect I don’t know. It’s literally just pizza toppings in a bowl. You basically pay for a small pizza but then get no crust. You’re better off buying the ingredients from the store instead of paying $8-10 for a weird layer of stuff in a bowl
You may ask yourself: “How does this delightful young man eat all this junk food and stay so thin?” He lives off Whisky Sours and nicotine when not being filmed.
The crust is necessary to soak up the excess grease, and have the convenience of eating it with your hands. Instead the bowl concept just takes that away. You're just left with an extra greasy mess that you have to eat with utensils.
Hey! Papa John's employee here. I honestly don't really like making them. The reason they exist is because our customers wanted something close to a salad. It's really ridiculous. I mean the only thing we have close to a salad is a bunch of spinach leaves, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and black olives in a bowl. Adding cheese, meats and sauce to it seems like a waste, in my opinion. I apologize for dissatisfaction and disgust. Edit: Appreciate all the informative comments everyone. Thank you for calling Papa John's!
I feel like this was for people on keto and similar diets who wanted the taste of pizza without the bread/carbs. Not a bad idea but they clearly missed the mark in the execution.
The couldve went the same way dominos did and just get premade salads made to order, but papa johns probably didn’t wanna do that lol or they could’ve just let people order a salad with the toppings they have available. If I was trying to be health conscious I’d rather have a spinach, tomato, chicken and pineapple salad far more than whatever god forsaken mess this is lol
@@MrsDragonChef If I wanted to eat healthy I wouldn't even bother ordering from a Papa Johns in the first place. It's the reason why McDonald's got rid of salads. Very low sales and demand. If I was taking a family to McDonald's (Or ordering from PJ'S) it would be their treat and I would have something healthy later on (Probably from the fridge) after they ate.
@@daveb2280 the problem for some people it isn’t about eating “healthy” it’s about having food restrictions which is becoming more and more common. If you cannot eat certain (very common) foods then this is a way to eat fast food when otherwise you’d be SOL. It provides an option for those of us who simply cannot eat the crust.
My girlfriend ordered this last night thinking it was going to be a pasta bowl like they have at dominos and we got the shock of our lives when it showed up! 😮
This is a keto friendly meal therefore it is just an overload to the senses of grease and slime. Domino's pasta bowls are not keto friendly because they contain carbohydrates, which mellow out the overpowering filth and slime from the rest of the ingredients.

It looks suspicious to say the least. And it comes with a lot of waste, two pieces of cardboard and plastic. Just too much material to wrap an underwhelming item.
20 years ago I experimented with making my own version of this. I used the exact same ingredients I used in normal Pizza, but skipped the crust. I had the exact same reaction. I actually tried to do it multiple times thinking I screwed up. You realize the crust does so many important things. It sops up grease and moisture, which transfers a lot of salt to the bread and balances it out. Even if you toss the crust, there is a flavorful barrier that develops between the bread and the toppings that develops from the salt, oil, and flour. That is removed. And the smell, more than half of a good pizzas aroma is coming from the dough.
That is a good point. Just look at how greasy the bottom of a pizza box can be already, when crust is already soaking a lot of it up. In this case all the grease just sits at the bottom of the bowl and everything just stews in it.
Meat and potatoes. Pasta and sauce. Hamburger. Stir Fry. This was figured out centuries ago. Meat, fat, and a starch. All three work together to help you digest a meal. You need fat to digest protein and you need carbs to digest fat. The reason why it smells so bad is because there is an imbalance that favors excess fat. Your senses are telling you that probably can't digest it. Like he said on the video each ingredient on its own but together it doesn't work. Think about it this way, would you want to eat a whole pound of bacon or a few slices with an egg and a pancake?
@@waynetang1763 Not to mention that a whole lot of fat doesn't exactly work wonders for your gut. Meat, fat, starch, and some veggies for a little bit of extra flavour and fiber tend to be nice, although of course this varies from dish to dish. But needless to say fat in particular is finicky, it has to actually go with something and too much at once is abhorrent.

I’m a Papa John’s employee, and I’ve been angry/annoyed by this product (as well as our lack of ingenuity for new products) since this came to our stores. It’s so pointless, nobody asked for it, and it’s just gross. I’ve complained numerous times to my managers, who agree with me, but it’s corporate who forces this stuff on us. Please don’t order these, so that corporate takes them off the menu. They should at least have pasta or something in them, but no, it’s just pizza topics and sauce. It’s insulting to the customers.
There are a lot of people on a low carb diet and stuff like this is a godsend. Is it as good as a regular pizza no, but it is close enough for people on keto and other low carb diets. They literally could've layered the pepperoni giving a "lasagna" type feel. Instead it looks like they peeled the toppings on a pizza in a plastic container and they warmed it up in the microwave
No they warmed it or cooked it in the oven. Doesn't matter people will love it. Even this guy probably cobble it up off camera. That why Pappa jhons has stores that make a million a year off this stuff😂😂
i worked at papa johns up until like 2 weeks ago and i can confirm that thats literally what it is. it just goes through the pizza oven instead of a microwave

Look, pizza is like politics, someone is gonna say they don't like pepperoni, while I say I rather pick/eat the pineapples off the pizza than eat pizza with it on
It's also stolen from another pizza chain, there's a decent size chain called Marco's Pizza, mainly in Texas, that's had the same thing for a good while. Not saying they stole it from them specifically, just questioning they thought it was a good thing to copy from somebody since it clearly doesn't sell that well at Marco's either.
Because this is cheaper but honestly I’m not sure how “keto” any fast food item could be when it would likely spike your blood sugar. At least it’s definitely low carb.
@@Solidsnaik Blood sugar spiking doesn't affect keto. It just gives you cravings, but those are easily avoided. Most of the food in these bowls shouldn't spike your sugar, except the sauce, but you can order it without the sauce and just get more cheese.

We have made breadless pizza bowels in the name of low carb for a long time and they are really good. I think what has went wrong with papa johns version, they tweak the ingredients for a finished taste of a product bread, sauce, cheese. I believe the sauce is not good without the bread.
LOL it doesn'r even try to look anything presentable. I thought it's gonna be like...casserole, lasagna, or like baked mac and cheese in a square dish. No, it literally looks like slop from the get go.

Exactly, there's 3 basic parts of a pizza: toppings, sauce, and bread. I can't image that they thought their greasy toppings and cheese could stand alone without bread.
You know how sometimes when you cut a pizza and all the toppings just bunch up alongside the pizza cutter and end up in a jumbled mess? Every time this happens they just scrape it all off into a "papa bowl" and sell it the next day.

I worked at Papa John's until recently, and this is a terrible attempt to appeal to the keto crowd. If you had gotten the chicken alfredo one, the fact that it's mostly spinach which shrinks a lot when cooked, you'd also get to feel like you got ripped off because the height of the toppings coming out of the oven is less than 1/4 of the way up the bowl.

I actually happen to work at a Papa John's. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about when you say it smells really strong. At the location I work at, at least, we take the bowl out of the oven and then cover it with Italian seasoning before packaging it up. And let me tell you. The smell alone is enough to turn me off from trying the bowls out entirely. It legit feels like I'm gonna get a nose bleed with how strong the smell of Italian seasoning is. We don't even put that much on them either. We only put like 3 or 4 shakes in.
I have not smelled this, but I’m picturing that pungent “tinned tomatoes” scent that low quality tomato sauce has. Is it like a weird metallic smell? Mixed with the Italian seasoning? Lol.
Looks like they just took yesterday's leftovers in some boxes and sold it. Something Mr Krabs would pull. I also believe the eating portions are important. Really shows that first reaction.
5:21 I'll tell you what happened. They wanted a way to use the scraps that fall off when making a regular pizza and they call it a meal. Like how Wendys throws old burger meat into the chili. 😂🤢🍕
This 'pizza bowl' broke all 3 of the rules for making sure you don't eat anything that's expired. 1. If it looks weird 2. If it smells weird 3. If it tastes weird DON'T EAT IT!
It legit just looks like a cheap microwave dinner, there’s no way they should be able to sell that at a restaurant even a low tier one like Papa John’s
I love the juxtaposition of the plastic utensils and the paper napkins with the beautiful glass and your proper eating habits. Also yes what gets me with all modern pizza chains is how salty everything is! And how sweet the sauce is.
I love how when Reviewbrah was showing off the bowl, you could see the cheese, meat, and grease sliding across the bowl. Not exactly appetizing. It seems like the sort of thing a bachelor would "cook" - just throw some meat and cheese in a bowl and melt it in the microwave.
As an occasionally lazy bachelor, can confirm. Some days I take an hour on prep to make a fine meal, other days I just throw some veggies, meat, and cheese in the oven.

This is a keto friendly meal therefore it is just an overload to the senses of grease and slime.
Domino's pasta bowls are not keto friendly because they contain carbohydrates, which mellow out the overpowering filth and slime from the rest of the ingredients.

20 years ago I experimented with making my own version of this. I used the exact same ingredients I used in normal
Pizza, but skipped the crust.
It was developed to help control epilepsy in children and focuses on consuming a lot of saturated fats, while staying away from nutrient dense foods. Just from years of personal research and my parents being in the dietician field I have a pretty negative view point on fad diets that are just monopolized by celebrities and "doctors".
@@civilwarwasaninsidejob7405 Um, it's more meats than that!
@@civilwarwasaninsidejob7405 years of research 🙄🤥. Probably just watched that Adam Ragusea video on UA-cam.
OMG! I'm a delivery driver in AK. I was getting stomach cramps 😢 laughing at the truth! I don't like dough so I eat the bowls, but ur right...leaves a little to be desired.
Papa John's MAC N CHEEZE!!!
Soon please.
The input from Papa John’s employees is gold.
"They took the sauce, and the toppings, and they dumped it into a plastic bowl, and that's... what it is..." Exactly my thought process as he was describing it and I love that it came to fruition fuck papa johns lol.
Dude has been grinding for a hot minute and has had no controversies or complaints. One of the most respected channels out there and I salute you good sir. Keep that hustle and hard work mentality!
hes also put up with more ad hominem attacks and other insults for no apparent reason, than most. He doesnt let those people affect his grind which is beyond admirable considering he continues to put out this content for those very people who insult him.
Also with no bs ads or changes to his channel.
Could you imagine him beefing with UA-camrs and starting drama😂😂😂lowkey wouldn’t mind it but he’s fine how he is, I salute him as well.
Might be kinda interesting to scoop this stuff onto a roll or bread of your choice and eat it like some kind of dip
At that point just buy a pizza lol

I’ve noticed a lot of fast food places are doing this thing where they don’t actually try to bring anything new in, they just try to throw something together with the product they already have and call it a new thing. Sonic does this all the time and has been doing it for years but now everyone else seems to be following along
Taco bell literally made a brand off this philosophy. Very very true.
Literally every corp chain restaurant does this and has for a long time.
@@dugsbunnyog3544 Doesn't make it right.
I wish sonic would bring back the broccoli tater tots those were actually pretty good
McDonald’s especially 😅!
This really looks gross. Looks like leftover toppings being dumped into a bowl and charging 8 dollars for it.
I'm glad I live in another country, because I never want to see this here or anywhere.
Just want to say that papa johns is considered one of the worst pizza chains over here. The company has been on the decline for years and continually blames everyone but themselves, just a few years ago they blamed it on the NFL...

Once the owner was wrongfully kicked out which seemed to be some big scheme. I assume because he did not play the whole woke nonsense like the other major companies but who knows. He did not go into the political nonsense. Was against most of it. The fact all the major msm articles had "anonymous sources" within hours of how evil, sexist etc everyone was is odd. The guy got kicked out for asking a question about words used in these very situations. The meeting was literally about those topics. Very odd.
Anyways. Not a big pizza fan but I noticed the quality has degraded so much. Burnt pizza, overcooked, dough tasting like frozen pizza.
Even the coupons are gone now. So price goes up and quality went down.
Papa Johns was one of the decent fast food pizza places but now its really no different then the others. Garbage
@@paulghignon4092 they’ve never tasted good. So salty yet so bland. 🫤

Food quality in America is abysmal
"It's like Chicago deep dish pizza with all the joy and fun and anything good about it that's removed" Best line in this one
The truth
@@facingthewind Not really the truth, as you could also look at it as a deep dish pizza with all the unhealthy stuff removed.
@@supersanic1254 therefore, it is deep dish pizza with all the joy and fun and anything good about it that's removed. not like a papa bowl is healthy anyway.
@@supersanic1254 No you can't, because the PJ dish still isn't healthy.
@@supersanic1254 But what's the point? And it's not like a basic slice of pizza is even that unhealthy.
I can't stop laughing! It's so gross! The idea is so friggin absurd LOL! how long you think until they just sell you a bowl of unmelted cheese? hahaha!
=_= Y'all need to stop giving them ideas...
Some people such as myself have no crust option available at 99% of places I go to. I can neither have a regular nor a gluten free crust, so for people as myself who have specific diets, this is somewhat in the correct direction. It’s not perfect, but a step in the right direction. I haven’t tried the papa bowls that are on the menu, but have made a customized version with my own ingredients, and from what I have seen the customizable one’s are better
My manager at Domino's did this 8 years ago. It, too, was nasty. The crust is definitely a big part of what makes a pizza great.
As soon as he pulled it out of the box all I felt was sadness.
"I would describe it as an odor opposed to ascent" the shade he throws is pretty classy
not "ascent", he was saying its an odor and not "a scent" lol
