I kind of feel sorry for Mara. Yeah she did do wrong for Patton and Virgil by cursing her brother, but when you see how she was treated by her family and understand why she is doing this, it’s more like she’s an anti-villain. She’s not wanting the throne for power, but more so to prove a statement that no matter a man or woman, anyone can rule. Deep down she feels guilty for tricking people, but that is the only way she can get what she wants. I actually have this head canon where Virgil does come back, they have a heartbreaking reunion and Mara is revealed. They exile her as she is trapped as a dragon like what Virgil has. But in her isolation, she meets a beautiful maiden from a distant kingdom where woman are treated as superior as men are their servants! The two become close and fall in love! Honestly I kind of want to see more with Mara now and not just the sander sides.
Idea: She’s shape-shifted into Virgil, sure, but who’s to say the curse won’t continue to spread? That might give her away if she can’t come up with a reason to explain its presence.
Oh crap, what's going to happen to everyone next? From what I can tell Mara is now disguising herself as Virgil and if Patton thinks that Virgil is back, then no one will go searching and poor Virgil will be stuck in the cave forever! Also- thank you for using one of my favorite songs from my favorite musical of all time! Your animatics always bring me such joy with their beauty and it was so nice to see the combination of song, story, and your beautiful artwork!

No, I think at that juncture she is just trying to gain Patton's "pure-hearted love" that can break her own curse. Since he loves Virgil and if he perceives her to be Virgil than that love will be obtained so she's in the clear to take the throne. Who knows, considering how her expression hardened and the fact that she can do Black Magic she may resolve to do something about Patton so he can't reveal her lie. Heck, she could even tell the public Virgil's trans.
