I was contemplating Dragonmaster Outcast when I first started making this deck however I wanted to have a dragon in the 1 drop spot and not a human (more dragons means more damage from Dragon Tempest), he also only really does work for the deck on turn 7 (unless you can play more lands on your turns) when in fact we want to be finishing on turn 5.
Hey Tommy looking at this list again now nearly a year later, vial might not make the cut it. It was an answer to land destruction/hate at the time and it really only serves the purposes of get more dragons onto the battlefield. What would I swap it for now probably just a few more dragons and the 4th bolt for the deck.
cool deck but I doubt it can win much in competitive events. modern is too fast and 4cmc or higher spells better win you the game on the spot. you'll get overwhelmed before you get to cast your good dragons.
Hi metalsabatico, I agree this is more of a midrange deck and doesn't play amazingly well against Aggro decks however pieces like Slumbering Dragon which makes the opponent think twice before swinging in if they don't have a way to combat the dragon in the early game before he becomes huge. We're also play Dragon Tempest which while we're getting out our dragons we can pick off their small creatures we can also get a Thunderbreak Regent by turn 3. Now I don't think this is a tier 1 deck by any stretch but I do think it can hold its own and won't get over run. But I have since removed Dragonlord Kolaghan in place of one more Sarkhan the Mad because of that reason.
First of all don't listen to this guy ive been doing Dragon tribal for a long time so I have a bit of corrections 1. The most important thing about having a Dragon tribal deck is having a set of crucible of fire it's a 4 mana enchantment that makes your dragons have +3 +3 that's a key card in a Dragon tribal deck and you don't have any in your deck list 2. Don't splash black there isn't any good cards that are black that can be use in Dragon tribal the only one that works is dismember witch is a 3 mana 1 colorless and you can either pay 2 black or 2 life and target creature gets -5/-5 till end of turn 3. if you wanna splash , splash green atarka world render gives your dragons rubble strike and dl kolagan only gives you haste 4 .also run a set of flame slash it's one red deal 4 to target creature and also run a set of haven of the spirit dragon it's a land that revive`s your dragons By these cards I mention are modern legal
Hi Max, Thanks for your insight there are a few things I would like to change about this deck after posting it nearly a year ago such as removing Dragonlord Kolaghan for another Sarkan the Mad, as I do agree with your thoughts about it in regard to haste. There's more I would like to go back a talk about but that's for another video. I disagree with your first point how Crucible of Fire is the most important card in dragon tribal, In my decklist the presence of dragons on the battlefield is much more important that increasing their power. on turn 4 this deck benefits so much more from playing a Thunderbreak Regent than it does playing a crucible if we have a Dragonlord's Servant in play I would still choose to play another dragon rather than Crucible on turn 4, like Scourge of Valkas as it will deal damage to player and can be redirected to planeswalkers. I don't think Green has any superiority of Black in this regard like I've said my deck list is all about the presence of dragons on the field not increasing the power of those dragons. Like you say splashing green gives you access to Atarka however, having double strike will do nothing against a deck running Ensnaring Bridge where as playing a Sarkan the Mad which comes into play a turn earlier can by pass Bridge and be game ending against any deck. I like flame slash as an option. What would you drop in this deck list for it or would it go to sideboard? I also like Haven of the Spirit Dragon mainly for the return dragon from graveyard to hand ability as it works well with what I want to achieve with this deck. Again Max thanks for your insight, I hope you that your dislike for my decklist hasn't pushed you away from the channel.
I would agree with max that green is more viable than black in a dragon deck because of the fact that dragons nearly all have high mana cost and green naturally has the best mana dorks. one and two drop mana dorks allow for easier access to game changing dragons such as Stormbreath dragon or Dragonlord Atarka. ulvenward tracker allows high attack creatures to remove creatures from the other side, I love using this along with slumbering dragon for easy removal. Green may not have dragons that black has but it has incredible assets that dragons need to get out by turn 4 or 5.
looking forward to building this deck. just have to find something to replace aether vial until I can pick up some
Nice deck man, gotta try this out, merry Christmas!
MK Ultra thanks. Merry Christmas
Hey.
>~<
I was actually planing on making a dragon deck for modern.
Josh Dracoian nice hopefully this helps you out.
What about dragon master outcast?

Magic Ontap ah, I gotcha
I use Dragonmaster Outcast in my landfall deck. He's ridiculous.
The vial is not too slow here?
