There was a promotional video a while back that showed green light coming from the holes at the top. I remember people at the time commenting on whether it would have that or if that was just part of the animation. But I agree it was never officially advertised as such.

Rather than soldering to the board you could just strip off some sheathing on the wires to the 2 pin connector right there and solder to the wires instead and then maybe make a connector that comes off of that to plug into the LED strip controller so that you can remove it or unplug it if necessary for disassembly. It would be a much safer route all around especially since there's virtually no replacement parts for the series X on the market whatsoever right now. I was actually looking for a 12 volt place (instead of the disc drive) for this Noctua fan controller I'm going to use. It can either allow the fan speed to be controlled via mobo pwm and it can ramp up mobo(or multiply) pwm output slightly or manual fan speed control from a constant 12 volt source. This is extremely necessary because the fan in the series X has a speed limit at like 20 or 25% because it was important to Microsoft that the series X was just as quiet as the One X but the problem is when you're playing a game like Microsoft flight simulator the fan doesn't ramp up enough to combat the heat in the heat sink. I temporarily have a switch disconnecting the pwm so the fan ramps to 100% and it makes Microsoft flight simulator run so smooth, smoother than it ever has. Microsoft needs to update the OS fan speed control. I also replaced the thermal paste in between the CPU and heatsink, I automatically do that anytime I disassemble an Xbox because factory Xbox thermal paste is complete crap. Also the thermal pads on 6 out of 10 of the RAM chips only cover about 50% of the top of the ram chip so I reorientated those thermal pads accordingly. And I replaced the power button LED with a green LED. I would like to replace the fan as well with a better one that has LEDs too even though only certain pwm fans like noctuas will work. There's nothing on the internet about that if I made a video of replacing the fan with a better one that shit would probably go viral I already purchased a second series X fan to modify. I may just end up putting an LED strip in the fan duct tho. Although I would like to add maybe some vent lights to the bottom. And if you look at my pic you can see an extremely modified OneS that has a cutout window with a partial see-through disc drive and vent lights and an LED fan and also a heat sink temperature display in the top left of the cutout window but the hardest part of the build was getting the power button led to be RGB and work with the RGB controller that's controlling all the other LEDs and still function properly, that's a trade secret. Anyways what I was thinking about doing to the series X was making a cut out window either on the top if the Xbox is laid horizontally or on the front of it. Except I think I'd like to make this cut out window into the shape of an X like the X on top of the original Xbox. And a temperature display as well. But thanks for the Intel, sorry I wrote so freakin much, I just feel it's important for people to know these things, the damn Series X is a furnace rofl that fan needs to go faster

Nicely done, but you could have just got an led fan and installed that. Would have saved you ample time from all the solder, plus those strips don't stick well over time, with exposed to heat. I love the concept and hard work. Did amazing job!

I just did this to my brand new series X without even turning it on. Came out great, I had some trouble soldering to the board so I spliced into the wires going into the same connector. Thanks a million for the tutorial.

I got a question. On the Xbox series S the power supply has a 12v output on it. Could i connect some LED's to it and be fine or no?
What kind of wires are the black wires? Also what is that liquid stuff you put on before soldering? Can you also tell me where you got the led strip at? I can’t find any on Amazon that have the extender thing coming out of the rgb strip

its so cramped not enough room. however i just cut the metal covering so i can fit the acrylic.and used rgb led lights inside the cutout and an rgb fan.
Does the led USB connector not fit through the top- back cut out, so it could connect to the back of the xbox.
On my OneS I tapped into the disc drive for switched power, however you have to leave a disc in the disc drive otherwise it shuts down power to the lead the LEDs are connected to in about 15 or 20 minutes. I have no problem with this because after about 5 mins of inactivity on the disc drive it stops spinning the disc but maintains power to the lead I have the LEDs connected to. And i play digital games from the hard drive anyways. I was gona tap the SeriesX 12v source like in your vid, if nec for this fan controller but i just watched the end and u said its a constant 12 volts not a switched 12 volts. So i found a disc drive pinout and im gonna check the 12 volt sources for switched power

Hi pal can you look into the Xbox series x disc drive my one basically it’s loud as when installing games it’s like the disc drive I’m hasn’t got any padding to keep it from vibrating against the outer shell? Thanks as it’s doing my head in bud... may need replaced ASAP or sent back to Xbox

Mod looks decent but I'd imagine you'd be taking it apart fairly often due to the LEDs exposing the dust on the fans (It's a good and bad thing in a way)
Why, you normally wouldn’t be taking it apart anyway and the fans still get the same exposure to dust as it normally would.

So you have a couple choices to fix the controller problem. 1) you can change the IR receiver to a RF receiver. A RF receiver doesn’t need a IR eye to catch a remote signal. There fore you won’t have to reach behind the Xbox anymore to change the color. Also 2) you can change the receiver to a blue tooth receiver. That one you can control with an app on your phone and does not need line of sight at all as well. Now for a question. To get the lights to shut off when the Xbox does and on as well, can’t you cancer then to maybe (and I’m just spitballing) the same source the power button LED is on or something like that?
All valid points. I just used the receiver the LED's came with but I could swap it out. As for using the power LED source it might be a little tricky. First I'm not sure if it's 12V or not. Secondly the pads are very small and difficult to solder wires to and the RF board lies face down against the plastic casing. Any wires coming off that board would get crushed or cause the board to not be seated correctly, which could stop the power button working.
@@MODDEDWARFARE to fix the “small pad” problem you could use a small pice of wire connect one end to the pad and the other to the two other points. Sort of like an extender or a “line splitter”. That might help. Also you might be able to do the same to maybe redirect the current so you don’t have to worry about the space problem as well.
@@MODDEDWARFARE you also could you 1mm or 2mm flat cable. One piece to one side of the LED then connect a second piece one side to the other side of the LED and then wrap it around the board to the back then put it back. That would allow the board to lay flush against the casing while still giving you the ability to use the power button and getting the current that you want. On top of doing whatever wiring you need on the other side of the circuit board with all the room that you need.

Due to the fans shape it can't really go any further down towards the fan blades. Could always add some hot glue to be extra safe though.

What happens if your are on your Xbox for a long time and the inner parts heat up would it damage any parts like the receiver
No the receiver box is a hard plastic shell and if the heat sink gets hot enough to melt that then you have bigger problems than a dead LED control box.

I would of put the leds behind the fan on the opposite side so you don’t see them when you look over it.
I think if your strip is Alexa supported...Xbox can take Alexa commands if you have it set up. Of course you need a mic of some sort. But it'll be like "Alexa turn Xbox light green" if you give it that name in Alexa.

Well ... what a collective farm! Is it impossible to make a human backlight for Ixbox Siries X, without sitting in the interior? Monsieur I give you a free idea on the backlight! Send a green plate with holes from Xibox Siries and order the same item, but only from the Mattalog of glass to order in glass masters. True ... The glass plate should be less, is it not the original greenboard with holes as on the edge then you will need to stick more LED tape! After you come to your order with a glass board with holes of the desired size, you will need to take all the ribs in this board, browsing the walls of all the holes on the board, and then you need to paint the glass board for an xbox black and light paint. After the paint dries, remove the tape from all the swollen surfaces of the glass board. Next, it will be necessary to buy the most narrow LED tape and getting driving on a 3D printer of the rim for a glass board with a channel under the LED tape - the rim for a glass board is needed in order to not be an amazing litset. Well ... and further: in the channel of the rim for the board we put the LED tape of the desired meal, put on the rim on the glass board, inserts all this design in the Xbox Siries X in the place of green, plastic fee with the doorway and embarrass the illumination of a person! @@dyna6448 there is 2 holes side by side at the back of the console just above the fan. I have an led strip in a clear tube you can shape I put it through one of the holes and flex it around and out the other hole.
end of the day clearly microsoft made the xbox to make it look like it comes with rgb lighting and then we find out it didnt lol. microsoft tryna stitch us all up.
Oh how awful of them, to cheat you out of some RGB while selling a console with great specs for only $500, which is a loss to them. How awful and horrible and a true show of how awful capitalism is!
But seriously though, I watched all the videos for the reveal, and I didn’t think it would be RGB or even light up. I’m just happy to have the console for what it is, a great console that isn’t huge, bulky, or going out of its way to be stylistic. Slapped a wrap on mine and called it a day, still love it 10 months later.
