The game "To The Moon" and "Impostor Factory" has OSTS that my heart adores!! Songs I recommend from there To The moon See the world A world without me (Ending Suite)
"Huge props to all the people who composed those" Oh, you mean the one guy, the guy who made almost everything in the game? Yeah that guy. Toby Fox, the man who made a banger soundtrack on top of a full game and made both of them masterpieces
Hopes and Dreams: "I feel like I can conquer the world." That. I really recommend you play the game in full if you ever have the time. This music hits so much more and so much deeper when you know what is going on.
The song "Undertale" is the only song in the soundtrack not made completely digitally, every other song uses synthetic instruments, but Undertale features recording of a real acoustic guitar played by Stephanie MacIntire.
Not to mention it went through many reprises! I still think it is Toby Fox's Magnum Opus. All the parts of the song come together for the bitter happiness as you find out in game, that the monsters are feeling happy to nearly be freed, but at the cost of your own life. The first time I heard the song in the game I had this sinking feeling, knowing that fighting Asgore will directly contribute to the monsters being trapped for longer. This song is amazing and led me to cry multiple times!
my favorite thing about 'dummy' is that sort of call and response thing SOLELY because the character has this quirk of repeating things three times, and that's reflected in the music. it's such a small detail but i love it so so much. i could write a whole essay on this soundtrack and all it's little details.
if you listen to the entire soundtrack in order/play the game it becomes so much more obvious just how the music fits into the situations, and how many melodies come back in later songs. it makes everything sound so connected in a story
@@neptune3161 I think the soundtrack fits the game so well because toby made a habit out of making parts of the game while listening to corresponding songs.
for your information, cuz you said at the end "huge props to all the composers" this was all composed AND played by Toby Fox, which is also the main dev of the game. This guy is an insane composer and multitasker it's crazy
It still astounds me that, not only was Toby Fox responsible for pretty much the entire development of the game, he also wrote all of the 101 songs for the soundtrack himself! The man is NUTS!!
The thing about this soundtrack is that to me, Undertale is pretty much a musical. A lot of these tracks are synced up to particular gameplay moments or even specific dialogue, and a lot of their emotional impact comes from how well they're used. Especially some of the later tracks like Undertale (during the story of a couple losing both of their children, and the hope that they'll right the wrongs done to them, the movement changes on queue with certain dialogue), Small Shock (when first meeting Asgore and realizing he's just a cool dad that likes gardening, but he's still gotta kill ya), or Save the World (plays during a fight that should have an epilepsy warning attached, rainbows and stars flying everywhere)
... Should it? I'm photosensitive and that specific fight has never bothered me. Sure, it's very rainbow and color changing and things moving, but there's no flashing as far as I remember. The only thing I remember really giving me a headache was Asgore's fight, when he does the spear attack and the screen flashes bright colors three or four times in quick succession
It's understandable that you haven't heard the rest of the soundtrack, but I was legitimately shocked you hadn't heard Megalovania before considering how ingrained in the internet the song has become. Edit: Also you have have HAVE to listen to Death By Glamour next time you do an Undertale OST video
Fun fact about the track Undertale, it's the ONLY track in the soundtrack with a recording of an actual person playing an instrument. All the other instruments are midis, while the lead guitar in Undertale is played by hand. And even that one little change is enough to make it hit so much closer to home, let alone the gorgeous build up, and the heart-rending emotional undertones.
Yes! I’ve heard it described too (not sure if by Toby directly, or by hyper-analysts online) that the by-hand playing is purposely used for its imperfect tempo, specifically. So the song isn’t like a perfect robotic metronome, but with the personal touches and love. My absolute favorite song from the OST. Gives me so much nostalgia
9:29 It's so surreal to see somebody actually surprised by Megalovania's drop. Considering I've almost certainly listened to it a few thousand times. Also 10:39 is so funny: "this isn't exactly the vibe you'd expect from a game like Undertale", he says about the song that basically everybody associates with Undertale, and many people who haven't even played the game have heard before. Honestly I would love to watch a livestream where you listen to the entire soundtrack, because literally every song is just as incredible as the rest.
@@phantomkitten73 although, to be fair, it's deep down a fairly twisted hole gameplay-wise. At that stage in the game, the world of Undertale itself doesn't particularly have the same vibe.
One thing to keep in mind about the songs is that they’re often used in boss battles so they’re created to loop back into themselves. That’s why they often feel stilted or weird at the end.
Man undertale hits so so deep for me. I know the fandoms a bit of a boogeyman for the internet but I’ll never stop appreciating how amazing these really are
yeah, Undertale has played a big part in my life and I've recently fallen right back into the fandom. I managed to finally play the game all the way through properly for the first time a few weeks ago (I've played it in the past, but since I never owned the game, I never actually could finish it). I love Undertale so much, even with the darker parts of the fandom (tho, every fandom had a dark side, tbf). hearing the music is incredibly nostalgic, too. widndjjxjdjd
Undertale has had one of the fastest developing fandoms of all time with all the theories about the game that never ended, and the fan made alternate universe concept that would later spawn the most creative AU’s anyone could think of. Like Underfell, where everyone’s personality is edgy and dark which is opposite of the personalities in Undertale. And Underswap where all the roles were switched around, which let us see what the characters could have been if they were like the other one
@@purgeblue or like echotale, where an incident with a machine led to everyone vanishing except for Sans leaving him completely alone with only the echos of the people he once knew (in echo flowers) keeping him sane- I love how creative undertale AUs can get, it's just so fun to see and incredibly fascinating
"Why is this making me emotional?!" That's how you know it's _good,_ it's getting its mood across without you even needing the context of what's happening in-game where this song plays. Legitimately though, Undertale is my favorite track in the game, right alongside tracks like Death by Glamour, Finale, Hopes & Dreams/SAVE the World, etc. It just... hits just right. Always makes me emotional lol.
Fun fact about megolovania is that it wasn't originally made for undertale. It was originally made for an earthbound fan game before being recycled for homestuck and finally being used for undertale.
On Megalovania, not only is it a boss fight theme, it's the theme for just about the only boss on the genocide run that gives even seasoned players anxiety. The one who will make you die quite easily over 50 times before you beat him.
It's because he is a cheater. We deserve it, but he cheats. He removes the invincibility frames, attacks first, attacks while you are in the menus, and overall just has the most irritating attacks to avoid in the game.
Actually, it’s technically not his boss fight song, it’s yours. There’s a song on the sound track that never plays in the game called the song that plays when you fight sans. It implies that you never actually hear his song play. The song that plays during his fight is for him as the hero to defeat you, the megalomaniac, after the game explicitly turns against your by that point.
@@misti4492according to Toby “song that plays when you fight sans” was meant to trick people when it first came out that you could fight sans in pacifist and neutral.
Timestamps: 012- Home: 1:02 071 - Undertale: 3:33 036 - Dummy! 7:35 *Megalovania* 9:21 087 - Hopes and Dreams: 11:46 Was really hoping he'll listen to Falling Down, but maybe we'll get more Undertale OST reactions from Matthew :)
Just so you know, Undertale makes a huge use of Leitmotifs. That piece that you kept recognizing as from "Undertale", is actually called "His theme" and is actually a full song, as it is a motif of an important character. Moreover, there is a theme you pointed out as coming from "Home" is called "Fallen down" and represents the game as a whole as it is the first track you hear in the game. Another one is that little flute(? chiptune?) part of "Hopes and dreams" is from "Your best friend" and is the motif for the main villain of the game. If you are to do more of the soundtrack, I suggest keeping an ear out for these motifs, they are fun to find ;) (Also some of my song suggestions if you were to make another: "Heartache", "Spear of Justice", "Death by Glamor", and "Bergentrückung" + "Asgore" as its basically one song)
if you plan on reacting to more undertale ost, heres some i would recommend -death by glamor -spider dance -waterfall - battle against a true heroine -another medium -heartache -bergentrückung + ASGORE -snowdin -bonetrousle -temmie village -ruins -it's raining somewhere else -fallen down these are just some personal favorites along with some other undertale tracks i think are really cool ^^
To avoid spoilers, the observation that MEGALOVANIA sounds different from the other songs applies even more for the context in which it's played. I'm glad that that aspect of it comes across even without having context for when it appears. Similar things can be said for your observations on "Undertale" (the song, not the game, but the game too to an extent.)
Hopes and Dreams DOES in fact use the same melody as Undertale! That's actually one of the cool things about the soundtrack, so many musical motifs are reused in different styles. There are actually three other songs that use Dummy!'s motif: Ghost Fight, Pathetic House, and Spider Dance. Would love to see you react to more of the soundtrack!
@@jaspurg8573teen years are still your childhood, especially since that's the time of your life where you develop the most But yeah it's around the 15-25 age range
I absolutely love this soundtrack. It's the only 2 hour soundtrack that I'm happy to listen to the entirety of and not have a second of boredom. I'd be hyped for just seeing you play the game tbh 😂
@@MathewMcKenna Oh, awesome! Would you continue that series or would you rather just react to the soundtracks? Both are cool. Also, if you get emotional to track 71 NOW, you'll die of tears when it plays in the game.
I'd probably go OST then continue the series. I actually played a little bit more of Undertale when streaming on twitch, but didn't get allll that far.
@@MathewMcKenna fine by me, I'll watch it all anyway... If you want recommendations on which songs to listen to, my personal favourites are Battle Against A True Hero, Death by Glamour, Waterfall, and Memory.
it's really a testament to how talented Toby is as a composer and musician that even devoid of context in the story you can still feel the emotion of the song, if you've played it though you are probably crying
I personally think Toby Fox is one of the best video game composers, every single song is an absolute hit! If you want to listen to more UNDERTALE music, then I recommend: Death by Glamour, Your Best Nightmare, Finale, Waterfall, or It's Raining Somewhere Else. I also recommend checking out the deltarune OST as well.
Here are some recommendations of my own from the Undertale soundtrack ordered by track number, with a fair amount of variety for you. 24- Bonetrousle 43- Temmie Village 50- Metal Crusher 55- Can You Really Call This A Hotel, I Didn't Recieve A Mint On My Pillow Or Anything (Yes, that is the name of the song) 57- Live Report and 58- Death Report 63- It's Raining Somewhere Else 68- Death By Glamour 79- Your Best Nightmare 84- Amalgam 98- Battle Against A True Hero
Undertale's music is so good at conveying emotions. Battle Against a True Hero and Waterfall can make me tear up just listening, it's crazy. Toby's work is amazing.
yea. this. the waterfall leitmotif symbolizes the deep relationship between humans and monsters-specifically the dramatic war between them and the desparation from the monsters to get above ground. that kind of context really amplifies the emotional impact of waterfall for me, as well as true hero. the use of the waterfall motif there is more frantic but still contains the same human-monster symbolism. sorry for the mini essay lol
The track "Undertale" hits hardest for me because of where it is, in the game. I mean they use all the common motifs when they're explaining the story of the prince and first fallen human and a bit more. It's just too good
I would recommend listening to all the songs in order because many of the songs have nods to previous songs before them. The little motif you pointed out in hopes and dreams is part of floweys theme.
Undertale is actually an underrated pick! A lot of people go Megalovania because it's become a bit of a meme. My personal favorite is Metal Crusher - it's such a banger. PS: if you're looking for a fansong to check out, I used to be obsessed with Chara's theme by LittleJayneyCakes in middleschool
The song Undertale always makes me feel choked up, and not just b/c of the context of when you hear it in-game. It feels like I'm looking bavk at a cherished memory, one that fills me with deep fondness, but also carries an undercurrent of sorrow, of *yearning,* because you'll never be able to recreate those memories, to re-live them. Because those memories are all you have left. And it's okay to grieve, it's okay to miss how things were. It's okay to look back, but don't forget to look forward, either. God, I fucking love this game.
Okay, I'm just gonna list some fun-to-know non-spoiler facts on the OST just for you to enjoy: 1) All of these songs were composed by Toby Fox alone, who is also the Head developer of Undertale and now it's side-game, Deltarune (yes, he did do all the songs in that game by himself as well). 2) The songs do have significance in the game, but one that you won't realise until you hear them post-gameplay. Since you're already listening to the OST, I personally recommend listening to the OST again afterwards. You'll notice a bit of the lore side of the songs that way as well as some of the leitmotifs it has going on in the background. 3) Megalovania took Toby three tries to create. Unsurprisingly, that was the one the Internet latched onto because it truly was worth the effort of redoing. 4) No one will hate on you enjoying the main Undertale song the most. It's a really good song. Just a heads up: if it got you so emotional already, be prepared for it to hit harder post-playthrough. Toby is a maniacal genius like that. 5) All of the tracks in the Undertale OST are bangers. Every. One. Of. Them. Do listen to all of them if you get the chance. While it'd be nice to see your reaction, you don't need to record yourself listening to every song, as banger as they are. Anyway, I'm off to check your incomplete playthrough. Enjoy your day ^-^
Battle Against a True Hero literally never fails to get at least a tear out of me. I wrote a whole essay about how and why it get's me so emotional and I can highly recommend it as it's my favorite Undertale song.
ABSOLUTELY do a part 2 of this, there are so many more BANGERs in this soundtrack. Bonetrousle, Temmie Village, Spider Dance, Spear by Justice and specially Death by Glamour are musts to listen too. His Theme is also really good but it is fairly similar to Undertale just more emotional.
The emotion in this soundtrack is so real. Even listening to these peices years after playing the game I remember and feel the heart and soul of the songs. How i wish i could go back and relive this experience for the first time again!
Toby Fox is a master at conveying feeling through music, and when you said you were getting genuinely emotional during "UNDERTALE" You were probably experiencing the overwhelming sense of unity expressed by both the song and the NPCs at the point in the game this track plays. Also: Check out my Favourite song on the OST, "Battle against a true hero" and if you're looking for more variety, "Death by Glamour".
It's very interesting too see someone reacting to the soundtrack alone. Having listened to the music in the game first, I always see it in the context of that moment in the game. It's so cool to see it convey the tone so perfectly even in isolation from the story!
Hearing the "Undertale" track again after such a long time, it hits so much deeper now. I'd love to see a stream or a full VOD where you react to the whole OST. SO all the tracks are in chronological order for one, but also to find those hidden gems in between the more popular tracks. Maybe you could even play through the whole game and just enjoy the game.
Watching you deeply appreciate the music of Undertale makes me fall in love with this OST all over again like I’m playing it for the first time 6 years ago. Your joy was really contagious! I could recommend the entire soundtrack for you to check out next because the composer Toby Fox is an absolute GENIUS, ……but here are some of my top favorites: - Bonetrousle - Bergentruckung + ASGORE - Ruins - Death by Glamour - Spear of Justice - Another Medium
"Home" makes me feel so safe and comforted, "Undertale" hits my nostalgia note which gets me real emotional. The piano is what gets the ball rolling on that, and the breakdown sends it home. "Dummy" Is a jam, I love the electro-swing vibe. This fight is probably one of my favourites simply for that bop. "Megalovania" is amazing sonically, but because of how much of a meme it became, it's a bit worn out to me. "Hopes and Dreams" is such a vibe, the slow down makes me feel nostalgic, but in an adventurous way. I bet that makes no sense, but that's the best way I can describe it 😅 If you do another video on the Undertale OST, I'd love for you to listen to "His Theme". That song is my emotional kryptonite, it makes me ugly cry every time I listen to it 😂 Also, just a heads up if you do do more of these! Toby Fox (Composer, performer, and programmer for the game) likes to reuse the same few motifs across multiple songs. You picked it up with the comparison between "Home" and "Hopes and Dreams", but there's a couple other motifs that you'll hear and begin to recognize as you go. Some songs are a bit more forward with this, but there are some comparisons that you'd have to really listen for/already have prior knowledge to be able to point it out. I won't spoil them, and I can't wait for the next video!!
Hopes and dreams has that elongated guitar note so it can go straight into SAVE THE WORLD which is the song played right after it in game when fighting Asriel.
Undertale was everything to me and it still has a special place in my heart. It's always so nice and nostalgic to the ost, even though I've moved on from it.
Seeing someone listen to megolovania for the first time in 2022 was such a weird thing to experience but very cool. If you do a part 2 definitely listen to death by glamour!
I can never get tired of listening to Toby Fox's music. I never really paid attention to music in games before, but the Undertale OST made me start appreciating the music and introducing me what a leitmotif was. (I understood what the concept of it, but I didn't know how to describe it back then.)
Based on how you said something about the composers plural I feel like it's a good time to mention here that this game was only made by two people. One of them was Temmy Chang who made all the sprite art and came up with some of the characters. The rest was entirely done by Toby Fox. All the music, coding, and pretty much everything else is done by him and him alone. Practically all the credits are just their names repeated and the Kickstarter backers.
@@thatoneundertalefanatic it is? With undertale it was worked on by only two people, and then a couple others gave them concepts, Deltarune was the one worked on by a team
What I love most about your reactions is the sincerity you feel when hear songs. You go into full detail to what you hear and what you feel and for this video, what you felt was exactly what I hoped you would say. From home having a “soured feel” is exactly how you are supposed to feel when you play the game (you more or less find out why later in the game), Undertale making you emotional is also another THING you are supposed to feel because this is the moment when big things are about to happen, reaching the end of your journey, reflecting on what you went through during this game, somewhat feeling some nostalgia in the 1:30 hr - 2 hr gameplay up to this point (again, finding out later in the game). Again, I love your reaction because that was how the creator wanted for you to feel. Keep on making undertale ost vids because there a lot more songs to listen to that will make you feel more things, but you do what you want to do. Thank you for this vid and have a great day
my guy you gotta finish playing UT! and i can't believe you hadn't heard the ost... it's one of my all time favorites, and considered one of the best video game osts ever there's so much put into the ost (like repeating melodies and stuff that get built on. like the dummy song you listened to!) and really i feel like to write simple songs that are so powerful takes a lot of mastery of music also yes EVERY single song does hit. in different ways, but they all hit.
Man, "His Theme" has always made me so emotional before I even knew what Undertale was. Will always be my favourite, such a pretty melody and brings out a lot of memories. All this despite never having played the game
If he feels like that while listening to "Undertale" WITHOUT playing the game, then he'd be one of the many people that cried during the game when it played as well. I legit had to stop and take a breather after the part where its played because I genuinely couldn't see because of how much I was crying and how much more emotional the music alone made me during that part.
Both Megalovania and Hopes and Dreams are boss themes for 2 final bosses of 2 separate routes in the game. I love Hopes and Dreams because it invokes determination. Some said and I can't remember who, but someone once said, "It feels like I'm facing someone I can't win against, but I don't feel like losing either."
Perhaps you could react to some of the OST from Honkai Impact 3rd. They cover both vocal aspects and instrumental, yet manage to hit it just right every time. Some of my biggest Recs are Rubia (vocal), and Sweet Trap, Domineer and Devouring Snake for Instrumental. If you do decide to react I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do. Nice video btw! I love to hear your thoughts
very cool video!! undertale is a huge part of my childhood and the OST is really special to me, im so happy to see someone experience it for the first time, not to mention the fact that you could connect to it so well despite not having played it fully :O goes to show how amazing the soundtrack is
Yes! Edit: "all the people that Composed those" --> Just Toby Fox himself. Undertale is one of my favorite Soundtrack of all Time and I am looking forward to seeing you react to more of it
LOVE the reaction and music both - the Undertale soundtrack holds such a special place in my heart, and I know so many others feel the same way too. Keep it up! I'd love to see a part 2 for Undertale music, but I'd be happy just knowing you listened to it in your own too! If you were to make another video, I'd recommend a few other tracks: •HIS Theme (since you loved "Undertale" so much) •Spider Dance (very fun) •ASGORE (epic boss fight song!) •Waterfall (interested instrumentation)
"why am I getting emotional" Welcome to the work of Toby, that achieves everything aimed for. 71 is emotional, home is meant to kinda feel comforting. Toby is a freaking genius behind his songs
Wow: you really haven’t heard Megalovania? That’s a internet staple it’s everywhere. Cool to get a fresh view on it Also Undertale has a sequel/Sister game that’s currently releasing chapter by chapter, Deltarune. That’s 2 free sequel videos you can make by reacting to the music of the 2 chapters that’s been released so far: since the music is very similar to Undertale and even shares some songs, yet it has many different quirks. All the songs have strong interchanging lietmotifs that run from one track to the next and you even get some songs with lrycs (Including the now Infamous song, [BIG SHOT] the song of Spam emails incarnate.)
You mentioned getting emotional just from the composition of the song Undertale, but as someone who knows the lore of this game inside and out, it hits that much harder as the primary melody is a leitmotif that carries with it a heavy weight. I won't get into the lore, because of spoiler reasons, but it's connected to a particular character. If you ever feel like giving yourself a reason to bring yourself to the verge of tears anytime you hear a particular arrangement of notes, then look into it. Edit: coming back after Hopes & Dreams. That is genuinely my favourite track from the entire game. Most of the songs are certifiably bangers, but only a few ever moved me to tears, and this is the only one that still does so years later. Mostly in the context of the game, but even just listening to it and remembering the story while it's played genuinely makes me cry every time.
Some other good Undertale tracks: -SAVE the World -Bergentruckung -Battle Against a True Hero -Bird That Carries You Over a Disproportionately Small Gap -His Theme
Toby Fox also did some music for the webcomic Homestuck that also happens to have a killer soundtrack that’s worth checking out. He’s done a few different versions of megolavania for different projects he’s worked on.
"I am litterally getting emotional about this". Imagine if you played the whole game and got all the extra context that the game had given the melodies and instruments. Undertale is so good at tying the music into the story, there are MULTIPLE undertale songs that make me tear up every single time i listen to them.
so, as to when these songs play: Home plays during the first part of the game, Toriel, the second character you meet, leads you through the first area of the game, known as the ruins. At the end of the ruins, you find Toriel's house. It's the theme of her house. Undertale is a song played very late into the game, near the final bossfight of the normal route. The song plays as all the monsters you've encountered tell you the backstory of the royal family, as well as express their enjoyment of finally getting out of the "hell" they've been trapped in for all their lives. Dummy!'s the mini boss battletheme of the third area: Watterfall. In this bossencounter you fight against Mad dummy, a ghost living inside of a dummy whom can't seem to find peace with his new body, and decides violence is the answer. Magolovania is a hella popular song, and in order to hear it in game, you need do terrible things. It's the final boss theme of the Genoside route. Hopes and dreams is the the themesong of the final bossbattle of the true passifict route. at least, it's part of the bossbattle, it's the song that plays during the first section of that battle. it sounds like Undertale bc both themesongs are based on a charactertheme song named "His theme". a lot of the Undertale songs have referances to "his theme" some songs i recommand: His theme Heartache Bonetrousle SANS Ghost fight Spear of Justice Battle against a true hero waterfall Metal crusher Death by glamour Spiderdance Ruins Bergenstrückung+ASGORE Your best nightmare+Finale and SAVE the world
It's insanely impressive how the track "Undertale" from Undertale can make people teary-eyed without having almost any context to go with the music. This song just so perfectly speaks the emotions you are meant to feel during the scene it plays over. This nostalgic, bittersweet, uplifting, heartbreaking emotional crescendo of sort (one among many, but definitely the longest and with the most buildup) And that just becomes even stronger once you have the context.
Something I love about 'Undertale' (as in, the OST), is that the main theme for it plays all over the game, in emotional or nostalgic places/situations, like 'Home' for example. And since it is near the end of the game, you just get punched with all these feelings without even realizing it and IT'S AWESOME! And the same goes for other themes, it's really cool how same like, what? Three or four themes? Were played in different styles, at different speeds and with different instruments, but still connect situations and characters all throughout the game :D
I feel like it’d be pretty hilarious to watch a reaction for the actual boss fights for the Undertale genocide run, just seeing how chaotic and sad the fights could be is honestly so intriguing 😂
One of the really cool parts of the UT OST is how much musical symmetry there is. Related characters and tracks tend to share beats and melodies and remixes of previous tracks are often used to create coherence and nostalgia
Fuck I haven't listened to any undertale track in years and listening to 3:34 just fucking hit me like a rock and made me so teary-eyed. I associate so many memories with this game, and at the time I was playing it a lot of shitty things were happening in my household as a 19 year old, and it felt like an escape for me from all that noise at the time, but when I listen to it again it reminds me of that time instantly, but somehow overwrites the shitty feeling with happiness and melancholy and makes me cry with nostalgia rather than pain or sadness. Like I'm looking at old photos missing a friend who I know I'll never hang out with again because we drifted apart, but our time together was invaluable to me. Undertale feels like that friend.
I like to think that maybe, at least now and then, Toby Fox does see reactions like this to his work. I'm sure we'd never know it if he did, but I hope he does. If I'd made something like Undertale, I know I wouldn't want it to turn me into a celebrity whose face is familiar to people all over the world, but I'd be proud enough of what I'd made to keep tabs on what kind of content people were making around my game. Maybe that's kind of how he's approaching things too.
The music is honestly incredible, and has plenty of variety with no song feeling out of place. You should definitely play it at some point. One of the best parts of my childhood was me playing this game
If you do a part two I recommend it’s raining somewhere else it’s my favorite track from the game. Also waterfall is a good one, fallen down is very sweet, and your best nightmare is a trip and a half. If I could recommend all of the soundtrack I would
One thing I love about the Undertale soundtrack is the fact that different songs have melodies, notes, leitmotifs ect reused in other songs. It ties a lot of different areas and the feelings you felt when experiencing them together and makes the experience feel much more whole while also creating new feelings at the same time. The Undertale soundtrack is a masterpiece and I still find myself impressed by it to no end, even 7 years on
In the first song “you can always come home” in both undertale and deltarune, it’s supposed to feel familiar or calm because of the atmosphere. Just a small detail that I love about the soundtrack.
I forgot to add that it’s only called that in deltarune, but being the only song in the game that’s also in undertale. You should really check out deltarune! The first 2 chapters of the demo are out and the rest are coming in the near future, all free. Undertale and deltarune are amazing games and really put you in the feels.
There are other songs in deltarune that are the same as undertale but they were definitely changed to add a new meaning or feel nostalgic to undertale.
Thanks for coming along everyone! I appreciate you being here
Next listen to the Deltarune soundtrack

Don't Last Goodbye and She's Playing Piano include live piano?
There are actually a few other cases of live instruments on the OST. Just a handful, tho.
It's still one of the best Undertale soundtrack! Every time I hear it, it gives me chills and makes me cry.

my favorite thing about 'dummy' is that sort of call and response thing SOLELY because the character has this quirk of repeating things three times, and that's reflected in the music. it's such a small detail but i love it so so much. i could write a whole essay on this soundtrack and all it's little details.
if you listen to the entire soundtrack in order/play the game it becomes so much more obvious just how the music fits into the situations, and how many melodies come back in later songs. it makes everything sound so connected in a story

Undertale is one of the games that has become defined by its music along with Final Fantasy, Silent Hill and Sonic The Hedgehog

The piano in Last Goodbye is also a recording!
i thought she's playing piano was also real?
Not to mention how it went through several drafts just so Toby could find the perfect one.

If you are to do more of the soundtrack, I suggest keeping an ear out for these motifs, they are fun to find ;)

Fallen Down too!
yea. this. the waterfall leitmotif symbolizes the deep relationship between humans and monsters-specifically the dramatic war between them and the desparation from the monsters to get above ground. that kind of context really amplifies the emotional impact of waterfall for me, as well as true hero. the use of the waterfall motif there is more frantic but still contains the same human-monster symbolism.
sorry for the mini essay lol
The track "Undertale" hits hardest for me because of where it is, in the game. I mean they use all the common motifs when they're explaining the story of the prince and first fallen human and a bit more.
It's just too good
I would recommend listening to all the songs in order because many of the songs have nods to previous songs before them. The little motif you pointed out in hopes and dreams is part of floweys theme.
For the inevitable second one you really need to listen to the "It's Raining Somewhere Else", that's one of the best songs in Undertale IMO
"A bit of a meme"
A bit of an understatement, huh ?
Meanwhile me whose favorite Undertale song is Last Goodbye for some reason
The song Undertale always makes me feel choked up, and not just b/c of the context of when you hear it in-game. It feels like I'm looking bavk at a cherished memory, one that fills me with deep fondness, but also carries an undercurrent of sorrow, of *yearning,* because you'll never be able to recreate those memories, to re-live them. Because those memories are all you have left. And it's okay to grieve, it's okay to miss how things were. It's okay to look back, but don't forget to look forward, either.
God, I fucking love this game.
Okay, I'm just gonna list some fun-to-know non-spoiler facts on the OST just for you to enjoy:
1) All of these songs were composed by Toby Fox alone, who is also the Head developer of Undertale and now it's side-game, Deltarune (yes, he did do all the songs in that game by himself as well).

That song is my emotional kryptonite, it makes me ugly cry every time I listen to it 😂
Also, just a heads up if you do do more of these!

What I love most about your reactions is the sincerity you feel when hear songs. Some of my biggest Recs are Rubia (vocal), and Sweet Trap, Domineer and Devouring Snake for Instrumental. If you do decide to react I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do. Nice video btw! I love to hear your thoughts
Yes sister SLAY
Hello dearest sister
very cool video!! undertale is a huge part of my childhood and the OST is really special to me, im so happy to see someone experience it for the first time, not to mention the fact that you could connect to it so well despite not having played it fully :O goes to show how amazing the soundtrack is
I WAS JUST WATCHING YOUR UNDERTALE MUSIC REACTION VIDEO FROM A FEW MONTHS AGO AND U UPLOADED THIS 😰😰
i was watching u watch it and was like damn gotta get that uploaded asap
@@MathewMcKenna respect 👏
I like the fact that “Dummy” in itself is a remix of “Ghost Fight”
Yes!
Edit:
"all the people that Composed those" --> Just Toby Fox himself.
If you were to make another video, I'd recommend a few other tracks:
•HIS Theme (since you loved "Undertale" so much)
•Spider Dance (very fun)
•ASGORE (epic boss fight song!)
•Waterfall (interested instrumentation)
"why am I getting emotional" Welcome to the work of Toby, that achieves everything aimed for. 71 is emotional, home is meant to kinda feel comforting. Toby is a freaking genius behind his songs
“Undertale” song is the song that no matter how many time I listen, it still give the same effect to the first time I listen to it. It’s incredible.
THE NOSTALGIA THAT JUST HIT ME RN OH MY GOD
PLEASE do more of these, the soundtrack is so incredibly worth it and I find it so exciting and nostalgic to watch your reactions!
Wow: you really haven’t heard Megalovania? That’s a internet staple it’s everywhere. Cool to get a fresh view on it
Also Undertale has a sequel/Sister game that’s currently releasing chapter by chapter, Deltarune.
Some other good Undertale tracks:
-SAVE the World
-Bergentruckung
-Battle Against a True Hero
-Bird That Carries You Over a Disproportionately Small Gap
-His Theme
His theme makes me cry a lot! The one in the game. And reunited? It gets me crying even more!
Undertale is one of my favorite songs in general, but with content in game, it is my favorite
Toby Fox also did some music for the webcomic Homestuck that also happens to have a killer soundtrack that’s worth checking out.
He’s done a few different versions of megolavania for different projects he’s worked on.
Just popping in to say I love your Grime pfp! Amphibia is such a great show
"I am litterally getting emotional about this". Imagine if you played the whole game and got all the extra context that the game had given the melodies and instruments. Undertale is so good at tying the music into the story, there are MULTIPLE undertale songs that make me tear up every single time i listen to them.
oh I love this soundtrack SO much!! Happy you're giving it a listen! and yeah, this would make sense to hear *before* the fandom songs xD
The music in this game is so well made… Toby fox is a LEGEND
Even Duolingo loves it
so, as to when these songs play:
Home plays during the first part of the game, Toriel, the second character you meet, leads you through the first area of the game, known as the ruins.
Hopes and dreams is the the themesong of the final bossbattle of the true passifict route. at least, it's part of the bossbattle, it's the song that plays during the first section of that battle. it sounds like Undertale bc both themesongs are based on a charactertheme song named "His theme". a lot of the Undertale songs have referances to "his theme"
some songs i recommand:
His theme
Heartache
Bonetrousle
SANS
Ghost fight
Spear of Justice
Battle against a true hero
waterfall
Metal crusher
Death by glamour
Spiderdance
Ruins
Bergenstrückung+ASGORE
Your best nightmare+Finale
and SAVE the world
It's insanely impressive how the track "Undertale" from Undertale can make people teary-eyed without having almost any context to go with the music.
This song just so perfectly speaks the emotions you are meant to feel during the scene it plays over. This nostalgic, bittersweet, uplifting, heartbreaking emotional crescendo of sort (one among many, but definitely the longest and with the most buildup)
And that just becomes even stronger once you have the context.
Dude these songs are actually so important to me they bring up such good memories is the past and honestly I need to add these songs to my playlist.
I used to listen to this soundtrack constantly! It's incredible, and you absolutely need to listen to more of this! Toby Fox is a genius
Undertale feels like that friend.
oh god he's digging up all of our childhoods again- AAaaaAAaaAa-
I like to think that maybe, at least now and then, Toby Fox does see reactions like this to his work.
This mans gotta hear Finale, Death by glamour, ASGORE, Spear of Justice, and just so many more omg
Would definitely recommend 'Death by Glamor' and 'Asgore' next!
If you do a part two I recommend it’s raining somewhere else it’s my favorite track from the game. Also waterfall is a good one, fallen down is very sweet, and your best nightmare is a trip and a half. If I could recommend all of the soundtrack I would
There is so many more songs, like "death by glamour" another epic one
DEATH BY GLAMOUR IS SUCH A BOP GOD YES
It's great to see someone just appreciate the original soundtrack :]
