    The first day picking up for a young german pointer is probably nerve wracking for you and the dog, keep it as simple as you can and keep them out of trouble. Go home when you think they have had enough, giving your dog a good start will be a memory he will keep forever.

    Ms. Lucie, I heard in the video you mentioned Karat is 2 and still learning advanced obedience in the field. At what age would a typical GSP be ready to hunt?

      Hi, Gsp's will hunt from an early age, but for usefullness and safety I would say that they are ready to take hunting only when they are reliably on the stop whistle amongst game - this will probably be any time from about 2.5 years old and generally they hunt well regularly from about 3 years old, but this is only a guide there will be huge variations.
