I'm in the 'poor man's" category and have done a few rides using a rope halter for two rein. I know I am breaking tradition...should I cease and desist?
When you tie the horse above his head and with a bit in his mouth, where do you attach the horse's end of the tie rope/reins? Is there an additional halter involved?

No it works fine. tradition is peer pressure from dead people. A hackamore works better but the concept is the same.

The reins are attached to the bit. Yes I usually have a halter on underneath. I only tie above the head so they can't rub the bit.
