That was the most beautiful tribute I've ever heard. Thank you for sharing. I don't know how you kept your face from flooding. I couldn't. You were both so fortunate to have each other. Adios (to God) Chris. Sincerely, Mahina Rose Armstrong BC Canada
Congratulations! So happy to see you all! It's beautiful! I'm going to sell all of my full cheek snaffles to buy your missing link! I'll have to save some pennies to get your new bit!
Nice to see your still standing Deb and Pat. Congrats on the new western bit.🎉 Thanks for thinking of the many people being hit hard by mother nature. Parts of Nova Scotia are recovering too. Take care .
So excited! Thank you Pat for making this bit to improve horsemanship and western riding. Love the cricket ❤ I will save up to buy one soon + a missing link snaffle
Thanks Pat always enjoy your perspective. I like what I see and will purchase for my Lesson Horses. Troy/Riding and Driving Coach for Connections Boarding Stables
Missing Link Snaffle testimony. 20 yr old mule this year, been in the ML for 1 1/2 seasons. Has had lots of time off due to life that doesnt always focus around the equine. Ive also had a bad come off off another ride a year ago March. So to regain confidence, Im riding the only broke thing we have. The donk. Now: The snaffle part. This mule has been so much more responsive.. Still hard headed, and he's not progressed out of snaffle because of the rider(s).. Well, Im ponying the outfit I came off and riding one handed in the MIssing link on 20yr old Charboneaux the mule. Strange as it may sound, psycologically for me the rider, I work on my leg cues now because he picks up this bit. He's not wollering around in it. Pat, that video explaing the Missing Link made all the difference for advancing my understanding. I bought a second ML for this long colt and he carries that set up til I have the nerve to get back on him. BTW, the first day the colt rolled that cricket something fierce where it got the attention of my friends. I wont talk about bits among friends. So, next time in that snaffle he was way quiter. There is something about givng them a "job" to do with that snaffle in these colt days. I dont know, Im liking it. I am no trainer. Mule is soooooooo much better that it may even be possible to transition him to the western bit on his 21st birthday. We shall see. But riding one hand in the ML is NOT the same as trying to ride one hand in a broken snaffle... blessings to you, Pat and Deb! LOVE what you do...
@barbgunness6598 I’m so glad I found your comment! I have two Paso Finos, 21 and 22 this month, had them since conception, but ahhhhh life buggers things up. Since finding Pat here, I’ve soaked up his wisdom and there’s hope yet for these 2 dinks. I’ve gotten both his bits, the ML and the western. The ML especially, when I first saw it I thought YES!!! The animal does exist! The mare, the one I really need that western for loves it, but we aren’t riding in it yet. Anyway, your comment gives me hope, I don’t feel so alone hahahah, having 2 horses old enough to vote and the gelding is going to be my “practice” for when I get my last horse ( I’m 62).
Hi Pat and Deb. I have only recently discovered your website, youtube channel and books, and very much enjoy learning from them. My apologies if I have missed this if already discussed on anyother video... is there a "check list" of things that my horse should be able to do before graduating to this bit? He is currently in the missing link snaffle. I don't feel we are ready yet, but some guidance on where we should be at before graduation would be very helpful. Many thanks Sarah (located in Norfolk, England)
You need to be able to do the log exercise with one hand on the reins using your seat and legs. You also need to be able to walk forward, stop, and back, while in collection off of your seat. Here's a video to get you started toward your goal: ua-cam.com/video/PAlXtdfYRkc/v-deo.htmlsi=BUT-Y6bAoTNVIkDP
Always an education seeing you. I have been riding in a square port bit my horse really responds to it and is very light handed. In your opinion will me transitioning him to your bit be worth the change or just keep working to eventually get into spade bit with the square port?
I don't understand what you mean by square port. We don't use any bits prior to a spade. We just go from bosal to two-rein to spade so if your horse is already in a bit, we don't really have an opinion on that. If you want to send a photo of the bit you are using to debpuckett@gmail.com , we can better understand what you are doing.
question from Sweden: is it ok to have a 5 inch bit to an arabian horse that has normally a 4.14 inch. (10.5 cm)? very hard to find smaller bits that 5 inch
Hi Pat I purchased a missing link snaffle . It’s been over a month now. It hasn’t came yet . Could you please check on it. Thank you, Rebecca Hollingsworth 2:21
Hi Pat Deb I still haven’t received the missing link snaffle. How long do you hang a horse with the bit. My horse I’d done with a snaffle. I have home in a walked no horse bit that’s as close as I can come. I hope Deb is feeling well, both of you. I’ve been following you two. I have a 3.5 year old appendix. He’s a handful. Thank you, Rebecca from Indiana

I'm sorry that you think so since in educated hands and in the mouth of a high-level horse, both as shown here, they are one of the most gentle bits. People such as Pat Puckett and horses such as those he rides as so high-level a skilled that the bit is very rarely even engaged and even then, very delicately. So much so that the horse works off of signal, rather than pain. Therefore, these bits are merely tools of communication such as a telephone instead of tools of abuse. The bit is only as harsh as the rider. The bit does not hurt the horse. The human does. And these bits again are only used by the most skilled horsemen on the most skilled mounts. You must be quite an ill-trained rider for your hands to be so harsh and always in your horse's mouth, and also certainly no horseman, for you to think they are such cruel bits. What might I ask do you ride in? I do hope you take no offense to my statement and question as I do not intend to be rude. I only attempt to clarify a few things and give a different viewpoint. Have a wonderful day!

😂❤🐎 Lol did that horse not get the memo about not sleeping on the job? What a precious baby!! I'd want him in my living room. 😊🥰😍💝
I appreciate the thought you've put into this bit.
Next time, try to find a calmer horse for your presentations. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love your channel, very informative.
Wildest one he has right now..😅
Glad y'all are well. Bless you!
I received my missing link bit. I really like it. Thank you.
Thumbs up to the very patient horse too.
Been waiting on this video and loved it thanks for all y’all do

Great video, Thank you. Somewhere in my 75 year old memory there is a picture of a U. S. Cavalry bit gauge for measuring the mouth.

@@PatnDebPuckett thank you 😊

Pat, would it be a fairly easy transition to go from a regular snaffle (not the missing link) into this bit?
Yes
Lady leg shanks 😊

Unfortunately my horse seems to measure inbetween 5 1/4 and 5 1/2. Is it better to go up to 5 1/2 or down to 5 1/4 please?
Go up.
If I see correctly, it is not a loose jaw bit. Why did you decide so? Thank you!
It is a loose jawed bit but we resolved the problem of the bit getting too sloppy over time.
Would like to sell them here in Norway!
does it weigh 2 #?
Why hi port vs low?
The higher the port the more opportunity for the bit to turn into a signal bit as opposed to a leverage bit.
Where is Shishoni ? I know that is prob not how you spell it so forgive me !
First!

You ride with your body not your hand/s, bit is much like a seat belt in a car good to have when thing go wrong.
