Thanks so much for this tutorial ^^ From a fellow GIMP user in beginner typesetting, this has really helped and most of the time I find it typesetting in GIMP harder than other PS tutorials so thanks very much. I'll be looking forward to other typesetting/font/cleaning videos you have so keep up the good work~
Even easier in photoshop. Although, depending on the quality of the raws you have, you may need a cleaner. You'll probably want them anyway. Basically, they change the B&W levels so that it's true black rather than dark grey and white rather than light grey. Oh, yeah, and sometimes that ain't enough - the raw scan is filled with a harsh texture because it's a low quality magazine scan: i.ytimg.com/vi/8xQ8VKeyEwo/maxresdefault.jpg That requires a lot more work to clean. Here's an example of someone cleaning One Piece: ua-cam.com/video/8xQ8VKeyEwo/v-deo.html That's one method. Another method is just getting better raws, if possible. In today's age, a lot more manga are electronic - on kindle. They're already cleaned, hooray! But maybe it's not on there and you need to buy a tankobon and scan that in. Still better page quality than a magazine or something. On that note, for certain pages, you may even need a redrawer. That can get a lot more complex (to the point you may need some rudimentary drawing skill), but it's usually fairly simple. Hell, depending on the project, you might even decide to just cut out that part of the art, or put a giant box under the text to hide the big gaping hole. Example of how to redraw: ua-cam.com/video/DlvJ7b-lMFU/v-deo.html Or, if you don't wanna do that, just leave the Japanese text in and write out what it means at the bottom, if you have enough space. Or if you don't, leave out the SFX to make space! *Back to typesetting.* Also, sometimes (read: often) the translated text is a helluva lot longer than the Japanese text, so you might need to really work to make the text look good without making it too small. Also, if you want to get a bit more advanced, you can start screwing with the kerning and leading of the text depending on the bubble and situation. And obviously, you may also want to bold and italicise certain parts of the text. But this is an awesome typesetting guide that covers pretty much everything I think I've ever seen in a manga: fallensyndicate.wordpress.com/typesetting-tutorial/ Some of this stuff wouldn't be too hard for me since I use photoshop every day, but other stuff requires some ingenuity. Mann, working to localise manga is hard work.
@@arminkaric9409 I wasn't sure how good an editing program Gimp was. I've only ever used Photoshop for image editing, and since it's the industry standard, I've never looked anywhere else.
Вася Пупкин+ nope I think translating so it's more understandable to read and try to fit it in the bubble is more difficult , it takes me more than half an hour just for one page.
I finally know the font typesetters use in lots of mangas! The "Wild Words" font!
I came to the video just to know the font lol
Sometimes Wild Words, other fonts used often are CC Jim Lee and CC Astro City
