I’m glad you did this; it’s great to see a tutorial on such an important aspect of sequential illustration! If done right the average reader probably won’t notice it but if done wrong it can ruin the reader’s experience 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
4:04 speech bubbles clear placement
5:11 if not bleeding, stay in lines so consisetnt look, if bleeding fully bleed
6:36 even wpages, usualy theres one panel trhts focal
7:11 slanting to create choatic, then as cool down can become less choatic feel with straighter panels
could also do smaller and smaller panels as buildup too
8:55 horizotal emptsy space b/t panels are thicker, vertical are thinner
and this is consistet
9:40 changing reasing order w panels
Ah, this was exactly what I needed! Thank you! You're seriously one of the best channels for learning how to do all of this.
Happy to help!
Hey Mate, this tutorial was really helpful; I've been struggle with panel layouts for the longest man. Here you go over here explaining it in detail but at the same time keeping it digestable.
Honestly one of the best panel tutorial vids I’ve seen. To the point, clear examples, and a humble plug for your own art. I’d give it an extra thumbs up if I could.
This was very helpful. Ive always struggled with making my paneling look good so this was perfect for me. I just got into digital art, so it feels like im basically starting over at times with how different it is. Your tutorials are great tho, i bought apple black as well and ive been studying your paneling/techniques to get a better grasp as well. Love your work💜
Thank for the support, I hope you enjoy Apple Black! Please leave reviews on goodreads and amazon.
sup whyt. ive watched your videos back in 2016 and today is my birthday so ty helping me feel better about my art & getting better at drawing.
Yo thank you so much i was just finishing up my one shot story for my shonen manga for a manga concept competition I just needed this I am literally so happy I found this it helps so much thank you so much again
This is a big, big help and difference maker for me! Thank you!
Bro I was literally just looking for a guide on this. Came in with the clutch! Thanks!
Man this video was so cool to watch! Especially after watching a video on the evolution of western comic book paneling
Glad you enjoyed it!
I needed this one, my boy🔥😈
Been needing this type of video, thank whyt
Yay, i was just thinking about this yesterday

5:15 If you read "The Shonen Jump Guide to Making Manga" and look at the full unedited sample pages of One Piece, you can see Oda does indeed draw panels pass the bleed section and doesn't "fully bleed"
@@plank2x495 the final pages rarely if even don’t bleed fully, also you can bleed however you want. I’m just first showing y’all industry standard or what’s most done
@@whytmangatv I was just confused by which aspect do you consider amateur and unprofessional when the "The Shonen Jump Guide" says its okay...
I actually bought my first physical manga.. It was OPM V1.great experience and i would use it tothe fullest when making panel's
Similar! I just got the first couple volumes of My Hero Aca and I look at it often when making panels ^^'
Thanks for the advice, Whyt! You gave me a lot to think about!
Invaluable info fam 🙌🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Very useful. Thanks a lot!
I use a western style of paneling for my comic, Siblings of Steel, but knowing the rules (and how to break them!) of many different styles always comes in handy.
Hello, there! If I'm using an A4 paper, how much blank space should I use between the live area and the edges of the paper?
This is very helpful, especially the number of panels to have
I needed this! Learned some new things too. Thank you!! 🙏🔥
One punch man is a seinen actually. The differences are only the magazines where manga are published. For example: weekly shonen jump(shonen=boy/young adult) and weekly young jump(seinen = male adult). OPM is on young jump. It’s only a target thing but in japan they Don’t care and read everything
Thank you for the vid! I've been thumbnailing a short comment and have been a little stumped on layout. Slowly figuring it out
Thanks for sharing and tip I will definitely use this for my own making manga I not giving up
This helps as I started creating a 10 page one shot which I have yet to know where I can publish, but I just started.
Great vid, once i finish this game developing project i wanna start my own manga
FINALLY HE POSTEDDD
I did a comic last year for a comic anthology book that's going to be actually printed, and the part that gave me the most anxiety was the page bleed and gutters and all that. My copy of the book should be arriving in a month, and I am very scared about how my two-page spreads turned out.
Actually it's my first time being published so I'm just nervous in general about how it actually turned out
Anyways, thank you for making this video. Very informative. Here's hoping I get to be in a book again sometime so I can apply this knowledge
Good luck!
@@whytmangatv Thanks! Your videos have really been an inspiration to me
Very useful, thanks! 🔥
Thank you so much. Your video save my manga.
Always inspiring me man
I was looking for a video like this
Thanks alot for this you helped lots!
Thank you for this fantastic video!
Glad you liked it!
I’ve wanted to layout my manga like One Punch Man but I realized it was more work because the panels are bigger
Needed this tutorial
Fantastic Video as Always! 👏👏👏👏👏 ❤❤❤❤ 💖💖💖💖
Next can u explain how to get that “professional manga look”? U have it with ur series. I don’t understand how to accomplish it.
Appreciate this.
For r years now iv been doing it all wrong lol.
Now I know thank.
Just to start off, I’ll start by saying, nah ima do my own thing.
When you bleed you bleed completely! Very sound advice and words to live by 😅
This is where I think American comics shine a little bit. I still prefer manga, but I love how the American floppies are larger and have more space to work with.
Yeah
One question id ask, is how long would you recommend people take to storyboard their manga? I know some pros spend days storyboarding.
(Also, just bought the Gumroad templates🙂)
It's up to you, do it like the pros or longer or shorter, as long as it works, but just at least do take time to truly question what works and doesn't if it can be better? or ask fro credible feedback? up to you. sometimes one page could take a few minutes and thats ok. sometimes, I have a nice visual idea as I'm writing the scene. Just have fun and creative and honest with yourself. Thanks for the gumroad support.
@@whytmangatvthank you! I’ll keep this all in mind!
And ofc!
Really useful information. Printed a mangazine with friends regrouping some comics but I had problem on my part understanding this concept. Thanks for putting it in video :D
It makes me mad that Saturday Am isn't getting recognise like Shouen Jump.
I have a story, character designs, a world map draw up, some world building, and a power system.. who do I talk to so I can get my story draw up??
Oh yea and how to create depth within panels.
8:50
Isn't that just how geometry works?
HELPFFUL. I have trouble with this.
Damn, I already had all these rules internalized as an independent/amateur comic artist, definetely a confidence boost.
I went to my local Walmart and they said they don’t have a book section 😭 I really wanna support Apple Black so I’m tryna find it somewhere
you can get volume 1-4 on amazon, links in the description. or in Barnes and Noble, Booksamillion, RightStufanime, Waterstone etc.
Do you storyboard then ink chapter by chapter or do you go volume by volume?
A mixture of both but volume by volume is preferred. More time to look at it, plan stuff better, visually foreshadow etc
@@whytmangatv thanks
I'm learning senpai 😅

Plz do a video of you drawing anime baby for males plz
How to construct your first chapter
Thank you for this video ! Do you know the margins of a manga like One Punch Man ? Thank you !
Haven't read apple black yet ,but simon gives me aizen vibes
Don't miss vol 1-4 of Apple Black.
do they have "artist edition" (full size reproduction of raw scans of the art) of manga? if so, where can i find them? thanks
Shounen and seinen had different styles on paneling
Not really in my opinion, just seinen has more mature themes for art and story.
Great video really helpful, and I have a question, was Apple Black your very first comic or did you make other comics before? And for someone starting out do you recommend them to make short stories first before making a long story?
Apple Black isn't the first. I made one shots, worked shortly with a writer and so on. I recommend doing short stories first to truly learn and THEN go ham.
@@whytmangatv thanks, I was having a hard time deciding if I wanted to make short stories or go crazy with this story that’s been on my mind for years. After reading this reply, I’ve realized there’s no need rush, craft my skills by making one shots and then like you said GO HAM!
i have a question about the double pages, how you draw them on digital ? im on procreate and i don't know how to do it.
Does anyone know how to cut a drawing to size just like a manga page?
I mean, I'm making a manga but I don't know how to cut it like a virtual manga page.

Isn't one punch man (redraw version by yusuke murata) a seinen?
It's Shonen IMO.
@@whytmangatv but its seinen

I like the video but quick note how many pages you get done per day because I watch a video you can get three pages done in a day so I want to know how you sketched fast to do it.
Is that a template for roughing the pages? Where and how do you set that up? I'm still trying to figure out how to do this for my comic and I use CSP. Any help and tips are so appreciated. ❤
Yes, it is! I created it and its on my gumroad.
Thanks Whyt, I’ll definitely will have to get it when I can. ❤
Can u make a video about publishing manga
I'm lost, there's japanese manga, right to left, western manga that I buy, also right to left, then there's western manga that's left to right??
Yes. All depends on the publisher and or artist and their goals. Even VIZ who run Japanese manga right to left in America, also publish left to right, so some publishers do both.
Can i use this page size pack for procrate?
does Saturday AM only publish left to right?
Yes. At least so far.
How much you earn till today by making manga.
What kinda pages do you use?
One punch man was all up in that gutter. Lol
Not really and they still left room for the gutter but closer than I was yeah. Like I said different publishers have different dimensions. For Jump, they can be a little closer.
@@whytmangatv
Oh wow you replied. Thanks man. I had a question. How do you think manga would do if it was drawn in an American style floppy. I know older titles like gold digger tried it, but do you think it still has potential? It would be nice to see more color if western creators are going to be producing manga. My only issue with manga is the paper it’s printed on. You can do more colors by changing up the paper, but then again it would make things more expensive probably. The paper manga’s currently printed on reminds me more of pulp magazines before comics started taking off.
How do I get the story board template?
@@mandudedf my gumroad has it all
Im begging you… please show how to panel bleed and break characters on csp.. and the best methods involving that 😢
I like the video but quick note how many pages you get done per day because I watch a video you can get three pages done in a day so I want to know how you sketched fast to do it.
