  • North Texas shifted gears Thursday, paving the way to finish more than 50 miles of trails, and making it possible for cyclists and runners to head out of town and not have to turn around.

I wish they had that back in the 1980's when I lived in Texas. Back in my day the trail was only about 14 miles long. It's a great place to run. I ran there almost every day in the 1980's.

If anyone thinks $36 million for a bicycle path is a waste of money consider that that amount would fill about ten potholes in 635.

2023 to complete?? it's non-traffic, - 6ft wide paved trail for bikes. You can finish no less than 10 miles a month. Wait, government workers we are talking here. Forgot.

IDK, contractors are also damn slow, even slower if they don't manage funds or juggling multi-projects and their project manager sucks. Basically, the city project manager have the trail in a low priority so it will get done super slow.

@@tmmtohru Correct. They intentionally want to drag out construction to obtain more $$$ funding. It's the classic example of how government funding always goes over budget and past original deadlines.

So whatever became of this? Just looked at Google Maps cycling routes and I didn't see anything even close to connecting Dallas and Fort Worth.

Just a glorified sidewalk with countless stop signs, nowhere to pass slower bicyclists, and dodging pedestrians.

    Waste of money

I disagree. Anything that can motivate people to be active is great for the community. There are plenty of other things the city can waste their money on already, this is not one of them.

Disagree. Cleaner air, less traffic congestion, and healthier residents all save taxpayers in the long run. Also, not everyone can afford a car, especially given DFW's love affair with toll roads, so having options for low income residents opens up more flexibility in their commute and job opportunities.
