Thanks for posting this commercial. I had a silver 1974 Capri in the early 1980's. Even by then, most people had forgotten all about the German made Capri's. It was a good little car that got me to my summer job.

In 1980 I bought one exactly the same with my own earned money, I was 18 years old. After 37 years I still have it but I stopped driving it and it's been stored for 24 years. One time I was about to sell it but I decided not to do it because it was my first car

I have an Orange 1974 sitting in my driveway right now. It has 31k miles on it. Still a great car.

I fell for this commercial hook line and sinker, and had to have a 1973 Capri.

I had a '74 in high school and i loved it. A friend of mine who didn't have his driver's license borrowed it without my permission and totaled it right in front of the school.

I found one of these in a junkyard that was fairly intact. I’ll be able to afford it. The majority of it was still intact.

I just saw this today April 1 2023. The 12,000 dollar European sports car he refers to has to be Porsche 911.I don't think Benz made a sports car for the USA per se, and BMW had the 2002 but , that wasn't really a sports car either. It couldn't be any other car except a 911. Twelve thousand for a car in 1974 was a ton of money. If you only had a mint 1974 911 now, it's worth a small fortune. Of course I would take a mint 74 Capri also, but they are hard to come by.

The European offerings in the USA were pretty limited in the early 70's, mostly Sedans and wagons. You could get a few sports Coupe, if you can consider them that, the Capri, the Opel Manta, the Austin Marina, The Renault 17 or some Fiats.....but buy and large, most european offerins in the USA were sedans and wagons. There was the Mercedes and Porsche offerings but they were high level and not low priced. I agree, the 2002 wasn't then really a Sport Coupe, just a 2 door sedan with good performance.
