    I bought a new 1976 white Capri with a sunroof and a 4 speed manual transmission coupled to a 2.8 motor. The car had two huge problems which I was never able to fix. Number one was the clutch. Unlike a normal clutch, this clutch had 2 positions. It was either engaged or disengaged. Try holding a car on a hill at a stop light. I had the dealer replace the clutch but that did not ever fix the problem. The other problem was trying to drive the car safely on wet or snowy road. I often said that if I held a large photo of a wet road in front of the car on a sunny day, the rear end would slip and slide. It was a beautiful car but really tough to drive. However it never was as good as my 1974 Capri which I loved but was totaled in NYC about 4 months after I bought it new.

    1989 i stood at a used car dealer, and looked at a Capri exactly like that one, year, color and engine size even was for the us market, I was very exited,. lucky for me the old man was with me, being a rescue worker and a old mechanic, he told he's 19 year old son, it's very nice but, 175 hp will most likely result in a meeting with my coworkers, so I drove away in a Ford Taunus 1.6 Ghia with 78 hp that rusted up in 5 years. I had two crashes in that, so the old man was right again as usual

      Elvis is a bit annoying.
      I created a drinking game. Take a swig of beer/shot every time he says, 'When I was a F1 mechanic."
      It'll not belong before you can't even see the TV, never mind care what's on.

    Yeah 48 man hours of expert mechanic work cost at least $200.00 an hour. That’s another $9600.00.

      If mechanics really worked for 200$ an hour, they'd be all millionaires.

      I suppose if you're going to dig into the numbers, you should consider the cost of making the program itself, along with the profit Discovery probably makes from it. They wouldn't make this show for a complete loss. I really don't see the point in picking the figures apart like people do, as it's an entertainment show.

    The good old Holden l6 used timing gears rather than a chain, I'm pretty sure the 253 and 308 V8s did too, but I could be wrong there

    • @railtrolley
      @railtrolley 7 місяців тому +1

      Yes they did. The large gear was a fibre composite: quieter than metal, but prone to breaking, like the Capri's. Aftermarket metal gears are available.

    • @Michka1001
      @Michka1001 7 місяців тому +1

      @railtrolley cheers mate for clearing that up! Never knew about the composite material either. Did all year models have it?

    • @railtrolley
      @railtrolley 7 місяців тому

      @@Michka1001 I'm fairly sure the fibre gear was used throughout production of the Holden I6. From EH to VK Commodore. The V8s used gears and chain.

    The UK 2.8 injection Capri also has Siamesed exhaust ports !!! The 3.0 Essex version did not

    • @ovandek8959
      @ovandek8959 5 місяців тому +1

      that is correct. Cologne V6 engines from 1.8 -2.8 only have 2 exhaust gas outlets for 3 cylinders... only later from 2.9 onwards there were 3. The exception was always the British 3.0 Essex engine which unfortunately couldn't handle full throttle

    I enjoy your straight forward approach on resurrection of old cars sometimes back to original isn't the best that's why restomod is a good thing. I've been hooked since you did the Big Healey on Wheeler Dealers . I had a 67 3000

    I have only fairly recently discovered this show and I think it is brilliant EXCEPT ..... when they went over to America .... they did mainly British, European and Japanese cars. I mean, WHAT! With all those fantastic cars they have over their in the States, and I don't mean just the muscle cars, what was the point in going over there? It's interesting to see some, and see the differences they made to them, but I mean, what about a 1970s Dodge Dart Swinger, a 1960s Mercury Monterey with their wind down rear window, a 57 (55, 56, 58) Chevy? I loved those small (oil crisis) Mustangs of the 70s, the stunning luxury cars of America's past, how about an Edsel? All those gorgeous cars you see driving past in the background of 1960s, 70s and 80s American films. There are way too many to mention. Take a look at Vice Grip Garage.
    When they did pick a gorgeous 1960s cruiser, the Plymouth Barracuda, they turned it into a drag car. What a waste. Anyway, other than that I think it is a great show.

    Ant was amazing in this era of WD. Don't get me wrong, Ed and Elvis are absolutely great at what they do, but Ant just seemed to be able to do everything... and really well too. Can't get Euro bumpers for a Capri? Oh I'll make some. Build a Hemi drag car with a full cage from scratch? No problem. If I had that guy living next door to me he wouldn't get a minutes peace.
    On another note though - I think the Panda 4X4 episode should be struck from the schedule. The only car in all the series where it looked worse than it started. Embarrasing.

      Don't forget the Toyota Celica, probably Ant's best effort.
      About the Fiat Panda (done with Edd), I actually think it looks amazing. You gotta appreciate the paint simplicity that matches the car's simplicity.
