    Most interesting/fun thing about being a bartender is when a guest says "i don't really know what I want, make me something I might like". When they give you creative freedom to go wild is amazing. I usually use those moments to showcase a lesser known cocktail or a new bottle of spirit that the bar just acquired 😁

      Dude, you hit my button. I had a buddy back in the day (30 years ago) who would make up the name of a drink and ask the waitress for it. Coyote Piss. Dead Woody.
      Waitress: I don't think we do that.
      Scott: Just tell the bartender. He'll know.
      His theory was that every bartender was working on a secret cocktail he wanted to unleash onto the world, and Scott would be the beta tester.
      I don't remember what the Dead Woody looked like, but the Coyote Piss was pale yellow and frothy. I advised him against drinking it, but he was a true believer.
      Last I saw of him, he got fired for taking pictures of call girls posing on another guy's desk as a prank. Evidently he had a habit of making poor life choices, from ordering drinks to playing pranks.
      Hm. Wonder what became of Scott. As soon as I remember his last name, I'll so some Googleage.

    Buying a bottle of whisky to donate to the Tribe, $40-$70. Waiting to see it reviewed 6- 8 months, Arm and a Leg. Being blown off and not getting Bastarded by Daniel and Rex, Priceless. Having Dan fix it and put in the animation, Meh! LOL!

    I’m just starting out with real whisky at 42 (I’m Canadian) and I can’t stop watching this channel. I’m regretful that when I went to Scotland to golf, I wasn’t into whiskey at all. We even had a tasting and got to sample some Carol Ila 12, Glenrothes 1995, Bruichladdich 10. Had no appreciation for them at the time and so, between the golf and the Whiskey Vault, I suppose I owe it to myself to go back!

    What's funny about Rex flave-ing out is that this happened to me last week: I was heading to a barreled spirits class at Total Wine, and I stopped in the aisles to try Still Austin's Cask Strength Rye circa 2023, and I could not taste ANY bourbons until after 3 and 2 Tequilas and a Scotch, although I think it was the rum that cleanse my palette enough to taste their store brand bourbons. That rye was great and lingered. The Rum and Tequila came through, though heavy on the Chardonay in the Chardonay finish, and heavy PX on the Grandstone Sherry. After the Rum, the Double and Tripple Oak came out on the Bondstone finally. Never went back to the Bank Street.

    What if you aged whiskey in only the cool months or only the warm months? And the other six months it spent in holding tanks maybe stainless or some type of co Rainer that wouldn’t directly affect taste. You could have a release that was cool aged whiskey with maybe subtler barrel notes and the warm aged one might be more bold barrel notes.

    The last time I was in a bar I asked the bartender (who was also the owner) for whiskey on the rocks. They brought me Even Williams & Coke on the rocks.

    I think the best bartenders probably mostly drink neat Scotch at home... You don't really want to mix drinks after you get off work. PLUS, making good cocktails requires a shit ton of tools. It usually seems fairly silly to me to dirty a bunch of cocktail equipment (which mostly can't be washed in a dishwasher) for a couple cocktails for myself, when I get just as much enjoyment, (if not more) from a nice single malt... just sayin.

    Wait one minute guys , anyone can afford top shelf bourbon it's the wild wild West of spirits and so is whiskey you and your tribe have failed at the cognac test which you laughed at 🤣 ,those flavours will blow your mind, that's why it's the most expensive drink on the planet

    I can smell when an Ant farts I'd really love to know how you get Mellon from a spirit and just toasted wood 🪵 it's a bit like expecting that new car smell , but you bought a Barbie Princess Lego house , you can't get ,any flavours that weren't there in the first place come on ,wood is wood slightly roasted and chard yer yer I get that but was it cherry wood really ,did it have 90 vanilla pods thrown into the barrel no one knows , like drinking a wine it is what it is no more no less ,there is no vanilla in oak or cherry or fruit, unless it's being introduced to the spirit, like extra sugar on bottling to give it a caramel taste an so on , like Scotch there is nothing it it except what you expect 😊 Malty = Sugar smokey= peat bit of grain = grain and some barrel woody flavours if you can get peach 🍑 and apprcot from something that isn't there lay off the weed 😊

      F for chemistry. Have you ever heard about pyrolysis? That is for vanilla in oak. Fruity aromas - byproduct of fermentation by yeast. Same goes for your beloved and overhiped brandy called cognac. :)
