I only got into CAD drawing earlier this year. However, the approach you described is just the way that I intuitively approach everything. I honestly can't imagine it working any other way! I have to say though, your video series has been so absolutely helpful! I wouldn't have known where to begin without it. With your help, I have been able to create and 3d print a whole host of testing equipment for my labs, so thank you. You also just happen to have a voice that is very easy to listen to!
Thank you so much for the feedback. Can I ask if you have come from a previous creative background / pass time? I am finding that the people who already are familiar with this type of deconstruction are from those backgrounds. Glad your enjoying the videos, it's great to hear that I have helped. And thank you for feedback on my voice, I have been working on and have had some tutoring regarding vocal delivery especially for the channel. :)
@@MangoJellySolutions You definitely have a very clear and concise way of speaking, so it's great! Regarding myself, I am a PhD chemist. My dad ran an electronics shop out of our house when I was a kid. I learned how to fix/build anything from my Nintendo controller to full-sized cars from him. At my work, I have frequently developed new testing methods and built custom equipment in order to support my chemistry programs. This past year, I dove into 3d printing and Arduino programming, and that's where your channel came in to really help facilitate that!
My next gig might require some design using FreeCAD. I have dabbled in Solidworks before but mostly by modifying existing projects and coming upon the principles you describe in a discovery process. It's great to see it properly broken down and explained in context. Last time I tried FreeCAD it was mighty confusing but it seems to have improved quite a bit.
Thank you so much for the feedback, I wasn't sure in doing this series and there was a number of ways I was looking at tackling it. I was going to take a more artistic approach but decided to keep it simple. Hope they help with your journey in learning the software. And thank you once again for taking the time to comment.
Topic Suggestion: Light box for 3d printing, you have great tutorials on boxes with tolerances(2 years ago) and importing svg's more recently, but would be great to see a combination on how you would use both these techniques to create a light box based on a image, so many tutorials in fusion 360 on youtube but yet to find one in freecad, you have the best freeCAD tutorials collection on youtube , a light box example would be excellent addition... donating
Just a video idea: How to install FreeCAD on Linux. I have spent the last few months learning Linux and found that FreeCAD wasn't a straight forward answer with Linux, I have figured it out now but since you're my source for FreeCAD learning I figure this is a quick and easy video to put together
I think you may have highlighted a problem with my channel in that I need to cross link the videos and information. Or, as you say, a dedicated video. I have a tutorial for that. I have videos such as "install the weekly builds" which the information is in. . Anyone searching for how to install on Linux, Mac etc is never going to find that. Thank you so much, I will make that video. As you said, it is a bit involved. Thank you once again.
I have been using this approach to my models from my experience as a "Maker". How would I actually make this part, and a lot of times you end up with parts that are then assembled into sub-assemblies then combined to create the assembly.
The current Dev version (will be 1.0 release) can pretty well do damn near anything. The difference between the current release and the dev version is wild.
@@kylequinn1963 If dev version can "pretty well do damn near anthing"... I wish IT would write some good documentation... I gave up Friday... I was trying to fathom assemby workbench...
@@gordonandrews8343 thing to remember that is difficult is that it's open source project. Most of the developers are unpaid and do this out of personal interest. Yes, the documentation is lacking, but that's something the community, including you, could contribute to. As much as I like all of these tutorial youtube videos, I do wish these youtubers had as much incentive to contribute to the documentation as well.
Unforunately... at 4:30 I was disappointed... he will discuss Sub assemblies and assembly workbench later! Maybe he is STILL trying to puzzle it out... I gave up after spending too much time and finding a lack of GOOD documentation. I was really hoping he could at least give a few good hints.
I have done some videos under the onsdel version during the early releases of the new workbench. It's the same workbench in both versions of freeCAD. But there is a lesson plan and it's on there so don't worry :)
I love these turtorials, super clear and utterly useful
Thank you so much for the donation, really glad your enjoying, lots more to come.
Love your content! Another quality video demonstrating the features and abilities using FreeCAD.
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you so much for the kind comment.

Ver1 RC has been great for me so far.

I would love tutorials like this for the BIM wb.

Text is still a PITA hope it gets some love too
Can freecad do top down modeling or not?

I would think he is waiting for the 1.0 release before tackling the assembly workbench, since it is still a bit buggy.
