Whatever Happened to Jack of Newbury?

- Jack of Newbury is a legend in Newbury. But few people know anything about him. I'm fascinated by mysteries and I decided to research the subject. There are lots of resources on the Internet and suitable search phrases will uncover many web pages. The problem is that original documentation is thin on the ground and, with the passage of many centuries, interpreting that evidence is hard. Since I am by no means a historian I am indebted to all those academics among us who have spent so many hours, months and years researching for the books and webpages I used for my video. I apologise in advance for any inaccuracies and would be glad for comments below about such. On the other hand, I hope you enjoy watching the film as much as I enjoyed making it. There are many more fascinating stories about the buildings and people of Newbury to be unearthed. It's a pleasure to publicise them.

Fascinating. I'm so glad to hear Jack was a compassionate man who hadn't enjoyed putting those poor protestants to death. Your piece brought tears to my eyes.
I was expecting the end bit about Jack's descendent to lead into an interview with him.
These holders of Newbury's history should definitely give you interviews and let you film inside the oldest parts of their houses for posterity and to give local people a sense of their history.
Thanks Cathy, I’m inclined to agree with you about Jack and the Martyrs. I’d love to make more films but they are very time consuming and obtaining permissions is very difficult. There’s another in the works about Shaw House. It should be ready by the summer!

Thanks Philip, I really enjoy the talks you give. I learn a lot about the history of places near where I grew up. I grew up in Compton and went to high school in Newbury, but have lived in America for over 50 years.

Nice one Philip. Very interesting, and beautiful views of the area. The reply of Julins Palmer was very heartwarming. It is good to remember that there were people faithfully remaining true to the Christian faith despite persecution even in those times.
