99p for 150g !! although not exactly the same product but also from crestwood you did a review around 18 months ago for 2 steak bakes 280 g for 85p from Aldi vs morrisons. So for 10 extra grams per bake it's costng you an extra 56.5p for almost the same product. Shrinkflation is right as the meat content has also been reduced from 28% in the old steak bake to 22% in the I'm new product you're reviewing !! Still lets face it all supermarkets are at it with profit tactics atm 👍
Was not expecting Aldi to try to deceive but yes they are all at it, still prefer to shop at Aldi rather than that awful Sinsburys worse than Tesco and that takes some doing.
I never paid much attention to ingredients labelling before I started following your reviews, now I cringe at things like palm fat, palm stearates, mono and diglycerides of fatty acids. Your reviews have made me a better cook.
Hi Gareth, Another great review. Re the 'e' after the weight, it does not mean net weight it means estimated. It is a declaration that the weight complies with the weights and measures law. This means the weight is allowed to vary by a certain percentage. So you may get one item to be slightly less than the stated weight and another slightly more. For example an item stating a weight between 100 to 200 grams the margin of error is allowed to be 4 to 5 percent.
Great review Gaz like you said £0:99 you can’t complain it ticks the box tasty ,cheap and it’s new because it’s smaller 🤣 keep up with the great work 👏👏👍👍
Good review Gaz. I know you’re not seriously asking Aldi workers why they reduce weight amounts - it’s obvious, just like price increases. I’m glad you drew attention to Rapeseed & Palm - best avoided.
Even the Greggs steak bakes don't have any big chunks of beef in them so for 99p that's a good price, and the Iceland Greggs steak bakes are £3.50 for two, another good review Gareth
Just picked up a pack of their new pepperoni parcels from the freezer. Had the Mac, Cheese & Bacon Parcels last week and they were amazing. £1.99 for a pack of too. Air fryer compatible apparently, but I haven't got one. Also saw some new vegetarian pastry products. Tried the peppered steak slice before and didn't think it was peppery enough.
Another great review, might give these are try 👍Regarding why it has 'new' on it, Crestwood is an Aldi brand name, so they can alter who manufacturers for them.
Great review Gaz,for 99p what do we expect lol.but yes supermarkets seem to relaunch old products in new packets and have the cheek to say its new,ive noticed that alot recently. 👍
Love the video Gareth. Just a point of observation Cadbury Highlights hot chocolate has shrunk too. This would be nice with chips and veg, I don't eat these personally and thank you so much for my birthday greeting xx
there's an Aldi's here in my small Florida town . i'll go check these out . always looking for a quick easy meal choice . these look like a good lunch meal .
Hi Gareth from Spain where it is quite warm 28°. I think they were less than honest in their description. When they say rump steak I expect a slice of rump steak not a couple of little bits. Since we haven't been in the UK for a number of years, it is difficult to tell whether it was good value, or not. We had thick pork steaks in a stew in the slow cooker together with slices of potato and green peas - very tasty and very economical. I buy a piece of pork loin and cut it into steaks - it is much more economical, that way.
I collect a lot of these crestwood products in my truck where they are made Gareth, this is just the supermarket brand. One of the producers for these (there are different ones dotted around) are called 'Shire Foods' in Leamington Spa!
Well I guess that, as usual, you get what you pay for. Talking of which I've just eaten a Tesco Finest Ranch Steak with peppercorn butter as part of their Meal Deal. Well. I couldn't taste the flavour of the steak at all as it had been drowned out with the pepper. It seems to me that all the supermarkets are playing this game, trying to disguise cheap meat by smothering it with additional flavourings.
Wow. You couldn't make this up. I was literally Tucking into a Frozen Crestwood Steak Slice from Aldi. I done mine in my Air Fryer on Roast Setting & i recently discovered in Aldi a new Product it is Cooking Oil in a Spray Can called Pratelli Mantova Air Fryer Spray Oil. I Sprayed some on both sides of the Steak Slice Heated the Air Fryer up for 3 Minutes at 200c then placed the Steak Slice in Down Side Up first on 200c for 10 Minutes. Then turn over and do Top Side Up for another 10 Minutes. The Pasty Puffed up Lovely and was Crispy the Filling did not Dry Out at all. It was as Tasty as can be for the Price. You could also do the one you had as a Chilled Product in your Air Fryer get that Spray Oil though and i would say it would take about 10 to 15 Minutes in the Air Fryer as it is Ready Cooked and a Chilled Product. I must say the Packaging on the Steak Slice you have just reviewed looks like Ginsters Packaging. You should do a Side by Side Comparison.
Great review BFG as always . Going off the beaten track a little. I bought a “ fray bentos “ steak pie today from B&M . I love them but I’m pretty sure they’ve proper shrunk 😡😡😡. I paid £2.00 for this product . Would love to know your take on this ? Regards Derby Dave 👍
It is 99p so the real question I suppose is the new size a good enough taste to warrant 99p given the astronomical price rises we have seen elsewhere? Such as Palm oil they create vast plantations and then are reliant on them which makes it difficult to wean off to something kinder. Have you ever weighed a Greg's as weight alone comparison? A pie and an autopsy not bad for one vid 😂.
I would love to be able to eat a meat slice at that price. Go and buy a gluten free one. Or bread now that's expensive.. Eating gluten makes me ill so it's not oh just this once attitude. Great show Gareth
You give 'David Winfield ' more credit than you do yourself! It's too much - you don't need to mention him every single time you use the scales, as beautiful as they are...
David, David, David Winfield……off the Scale 👏👏👏🤣 Some people need to give their head a good wobble Sapper, moaning over somebody getting a mention even if it is mentioned regularly……just fast forward a touch if it displeases you then you’ll become pleased through your original displeasure and the displeasure will even itself up on the Scales of David…….🤣🤣🤣 Just thought I’d weigh in with my opinion, hope it doesn’t displease anyone.🤫
Another epic Gaz. Just been in Lidl and it’s 2 for 1.75. Which is pretty good. There not bad, I suppose you can’t expect a lot of steak for 99p. Having said that, if it was still 175 grams, then excellent value.
Have just had one of these Gareth, very filling, very tasty, and it won't be the last i buy .... only took me two minutes in a 700w microwave, and it was piping hot.
Luv the channel and videos mate, watching all the products we can't buy at ALDI in Australia. I'm looking to buy the same small oven (re-branded here as a Breville). Was wondering now that you've had some time with the oven if you would mind doing a video on it; performance, likes and dislikes. Thanks in advance.
I love your disclaimers🚦Gareth. Some products are definitely 'Eat At Your Own Risk'. Others not so bad or ok get less of a bad wrap. I noticed in Australian Aldi stores, when a product has a change in any way or is removed for whatever reason and it returns, they get the blue 'NEW' sign too. Sort of a Watch This Space. I don't fall for that old trick. I'm not the Chump they think I am. Nice review. Cheers mate 🤤👍😀
Gareth I see Tesco have Ginsters peppered steak slice 170Gms on offer until 9th October. I think the Ginsters would probably be better value but that looks ok. Thanks for your review.
Shrinkation at it's best, plus the repackaging of the item. Couple of red flags there already. Being only 99p is another hook to buy, they are pulling all the stops out for this product, and many others, nothing new about that, and the maths just doesn't add up either, we are simply getting less. Good review Gaz, all the best bud.
I pity your poor stomach Gaz. Wow, not only are they ripping you off with inferior ingredients, including everything else but beef and now they are decreasing portion sizes. They will continue pushing this disgraceful penny pinching, max profit practice as long as there are customers. I'm frankly amazed at what people put up with and what legislation passes for food. If nobody bought them......
i had one the last time they were out they were ok, but i was more used to Browning's pepper steak slice which had chunks of red and green bell peppers, i used to have one when they sold them at the fitba (Killie supporter), Browning's were better known for there killie steak pies as they won numerous awards, but 99p is pretty reasonable for a steak slice
I saw this earlier and walked right by, they must think we were born yesterday as my wife is fond at saying at the moment :) OTOH I spotted something new in the specials aisle, Limited Edition Wagyu Dripping Roast Potato Flavour crinkle cut crisps, same price as their other crisps £1.15. Be well.
Its just the brand. As an example, I'm looking at a pot of Lidl's "Milbona" Cherry yoghurt. The producer of it is TM Telford (who is 100% owned by Muller dairies!)...they could change to a difference producer and retain the Milbona name.
Aldi's "old tricks" that I'm sick of, include overcharging at staffed checkouts, and the Self-Checkouts NOT applying reductions and discounts! 👎😠 EDIT: "Crestwood" is NOT the producer. It's just a name invented by Aldi. The code (GB YR 001) on the packaging should identify the factory and manufacturer. Supermarkets don't manufacture their own food, they buy it from suppliers and stick their name on it. Apparently, your slice is made by: Peters Food Services Ltd, Caerphilly, South Wales.
I bought two packs of sugar snaps at Aldi few months ago priced at 69P per pack, when I got home and read the reciept they charged 99p per pack , false prices advertised twice this happened they didn't refund the difference they just said they had the wrong price next to them
If the weight matches the product as priced on the shelf the supermarket is open to prosecution from trading standards , photograph on your phone as evidence ,they do get sloppy but carry on till we repeatedly point it out ,we only have a Tesco and they do this often ,apples special 99p and £1.79 at till two weeks running ,it's a different product to the price not good enough.
I would imagine you carried it end up and all the meat slid to to he bottom🤔. I actually think that for 99p this is a pretty good buy. I’ve had similar before when I was feeling peckish so I ate it cold. Not as good as cooked obviously, but it still was tasty. And let’s face it, where else can you get a snack for 99p?. Next time I’m in Aldi? I think I’ll give it a go👍🏻. Keep up the good work mate. We all need someone watching our back’s and wallet’s🫵🫵.
I have had the steak ones, but i prefer chicken and mushroom, not sure if its my taste buds but they do not have much flavour in them? I'm sure they tasted different a few years ago.
Can't go wrong with a cheap pasty 🤭 laughed at the chunk of beef you found 🤭 tbf the minced beef and onion pasties/pies are good too (not that I've had one since a kid mind haha like 30 year ago😂)
Playin' Devil's Advocate, Gaz, if it's a different size it is "New". You're right about the weight. The "e" after the weight means net, so after cooking it's lighter. Likewise when you drain off the liquid in a can of veg etc. Crestwood isn't the producer, it's the name of the product line, just like Stockwell at Tesco👍.
JonPaul1953 actually the 'e' means estimated weight and not the net weight because the weight on the packaging is the product target weight, actual weight of a product has a minimum and maximum weight tolerance set by the company selling the product not who is producing it. So thats why the weight on packaging has an 'e' next to it. Hope that explains for all the reasoning for the estimated weight on packaging. 👍👌🙂
New and improved or old and worsened. Overall these aren't too bad, better than Greggs because at least you can have them decently warmed up, whereas Greggs pies are inevitably luke warm and mediocre.
Try the wagyu Denver steaks from aldi. Had some last night and I was very shocked at how good they were. Very very nice steak. Pretty sure they was only about £7 for 2 steaks
Hello Gareth, is anything really new?? Seems not😢 A steak bake, meat, pastry 🥧 simple .Now for 99p you ain't gonna get fillet steak. And thats fine,no con ,no fibs just a cheap snack. With chips or mashed potatoes & baked beans great for the kiddies tea,or an adults lunch😊 i thought cheap 'n' cheerful had gone, but for many people this is a fact of modern life.A solid informative video, keep finding the jems Gareth 😊 Cheers Allan&Family
The wrapper is new not the product. Bit cheeky and good to see that you have noticed a change to the weight. These all used to be 99p for 2 so I think someone is taking the Mickey.
Hi Gareth 👋 ❤ your food reviews, You're so funny & you have a great sense of humour. Now I do like a steak slice, a pie or a pasty ....Never..... !!😮 Yes, I do 😂😂 A steak slice 99p ,what not to like ?? I would give it a chance 😂 Q..what the make & model Of your counter top oven It looks top drawer ?🤔 It would come in very handy ,whilst I have my kitchen done . Cheers for sharing, Graham 😁👍
Got to be better than a Greggs steak bake. Had one of these and it was just gravy mush, no noticeable pieces of beef and tasted disgusting ( typical Greggs !)
We are what we eat! So I now try to avoid processed products that include Palm Oil, Rapeseed Oil, and the MSG and by products and definatley modified Corn Starch. IT gets more difficult by the day. It's all these chemicals that give the longer shelf life. Now that we have fridges people will shop once a week, whereas it used to be avery day. Fresh food tastes betterm but we have been conditioned to believe fresh means not canned or dried. Frozen is still OK..You coud ask how is it fresh when it is prpbably already a week or two old, once it has been shipped from manufacturer to the distribution centre, picked and sent out by the delivery truck hopeflly direct to the store but there may be an aditional colation centre to bring the freah and ambient orders together. I'm not a fan of pepper sauce so it will stay on the shelf at Aldi for someone else.
Same old same old... supermarkets nickel and diming it. I think the assumption is often that ALDI and LIDL are more or less the same, but in my experience LIDL is the better Germanic option overall. Maybe you needed to shake it before cooking it to ensure the contents were distributed... 😀
Look ok but I always buy Ginsters when it comes to peppered steak slice, Crestwood is just an Aldi brand name, they can change the manufacturer when they want and still keep the name.
Have to confess i rub most of the flaky pastry off stuff like this lol i end up with something half the size.We did have a local place did shortcrust pastry they were lush but fell apart easy.
Hi Gareth, i know you have no doubt been asked this countless times, but i rarely read comments. Could u tell me the make of the oven that you used, keep up the good work fella.
I phoned Pukka pies after finding a bit of steak in one of its pies and asked them if i had won a prize but unfortunately i was told it was a miSTEAK . 🤔
I have two great little local sandwich shops near me and both do fantastic homemade steak slices. They are £1.90 but worlds apart from this ginsters/pukka et al. Packed full of tender beef and great tasting gravy. I never thought to weigh it, I might do now though just to see!
99p for 150g !! although not exactly the same product but also from crestwood you did a review around 18 months ago for 2 steak bakes 280 g for 85p from Aldi vs morrisons. Iceland have been doing this trick too recently
What do you want for 99p?. You can't buy a 1st class stamp for that.
@JonPaul1953 I use email.

Also salt is a silent killer, be so careful especially if adding own salt to food.
but do you know what they actually are?
@@amanwithaplaninavan I've a fair idea. I did actually get A levels including chemistry and biology.

Your show is fantastic! If i was a TV station i would have hired u ages ago reviewing all supermarket food. People love watching this stuff.
You're welcome 😊
That single piece of beef in that entire slice reminds me of discovering a novelty toy inside a Christmas Cracker - What Joy!
🤣👍
aldi putting prices up and shrinking stuff quicker then iceland and tesco at the moment upto 30% on some stuff
Great review Gaz like you said £0:99 you can’t complain it ticks the box tasty ,cheap and it’s new because it’s smaller 🤣 keep up with the great work 👏👏👍👍

Looks decent vaue at 99p and probably pretty filling too which is always a good thing 👍
They are doing this to a lot of food items Gareth; have you noticed the pots of yoghurt are shrinking too ?
I was just wondering, I get Ginsters Cornish pasties and steak slices from Farmfoods for 99p each. 🤔
Another great review, might give these are try 👍Regarding why it has 'new' on it, Crestwood is an Aldi brand name, so they can alter who manufacturers for them.

Crestwood-is Aldi's own brand name for certain products, there is no telling where or who made it before or now! :)
You should be able to tell from the "GB sticker" as the number indicate the factory/slaughter house.... 😮😉
@@BigAndTall666 Is there a public register we can look up the details?
This particular product: Peter's Food Services Limited, Caerphilly.
Have they changed the beef grissle for beef meat? it they have then maybe thats "new"

I have always found the fresh food in Spain of a much better quality than the UK and cheaper and you are sat in the sun at 28d lucky you !
Looks great for the price 🎉
I’ve cooked these kind of foods in the microwave even though it’s not recommended and apart from slightly soggy pastry, it was fine.
Crestwood is just a supermarket own brand. The GB code YR001 shows that these are made by Peters near Caerphilly, who make Cornish pasties etc

Had those peppered steak slices many times in past, tasty snacks, quite filling, I've usually paid more than 99p though, good price. 👍
If it can be eaten cold then it suggests it is precooked so it should be microwaveable. How does it compare to Greggs?
Seed oils are not good for you but seem to be in most processed foods

You are so welcome!
Sounds great!
so its ready to eat hot or cold but it also says ensure product is thoroughly heated and is piping hot throughout . whats all that about .
Haha yes
Playin' Devil's Advocate, Gaz, if it's a different size it is "New". You're right about the weight. The "e" after the weight means net, so after cooking it's lighter.
Likewise when you drain off the liquid in a can of veg etc. Crestwood isn't the producer, it's the name of the product line, just like Stockwell at Tesco👍.
Have you tried
The chicken and stuffing Kiev from there
@@markmcdermott7523 No, I haven't mark. I like their chicken and mushroom slice though.
@@kingofwalesWR Ah, thanks for that mate. Every day's a school day, I always thought that it meant net. Cheers pal👍!
Nice me and my mate used to buy Aldi Cornish pasties 49p each that was two years ago might be a pound now
"I stand corrected" said the man in the orthopaedic shoes.
😂😂😂😂😂
Gareth the man who eats, so we don't have to.
Thanks G man😊
🤣👍
My husband would like that.
Is it better than a Gregg's steak bake or a ginsters steak slice
Go to greggs do a comparison mate yourself.
Iceland do Greggs Steak bakes.
Thanks for the tip!
Cheers Allan hope you're all well pal and family
Keep meaning to call in Aldi, they look good meals in there.. id have this with ravioli lol
The wrapper is new not the product. Bit cheeky and good to see that you have noticed a change to the weight. These all used to be 99p for 2 so I think someone is taking the Mickey.
Hi Gareth 👋
❤ your food reviews,
You're so funny & you have a great sense of humour.
Now I do like a steak slice, a pie or a pasty ....Never..... !!😮
Yes, I do 😂😂
A steak slice 99p ,what not to like ??
I would give it a chance 😂
Q..what the make & model
Of your counter top oven
It looks top drawer ?🤔
It would come in very handy ,whilst I have my kitchen done .
Cheers for sharing, Graham 😁👍
Glad you like them! Yes it's a sage Airfryer multi cooker 329 quid off Amazon.
Cheers Gareth😁👍 @@BaldFoodieGuy
Got to be better than a Greggs steak bake. Had one of these and it was just gravy mush, no noticeable pieces of beef and tasted disgusting ( typical Greggs !)
I had the old style in the cardboard packaging. It was full of gristle, no steak. Disgusting. I didn't try any more.
Fruit Mentos were 190g, now 150g but cost twice as much.
We need to petition these supermarkets taking the piss now !
I work at aldi it might be the case that they took it off for a while and changed the recipe like the content keep it up
Thanks for the info
Thanks for sharing aldi are putting prices up and shrinking products
Cheers pal
Same old same old... supermarkets nickel and diming it. I think the assumption is often that ALDI and LIDL are more or less the same, but in my experience LIDL is the better Germanic option overall. Maybe you needed to shake it before cooking it to ensure the contents were distributed... 😀
Gaz btw the Growth looks good on you, all the best
Thanks, you too!
These bake types can be eaten cold but they are virtually tasteless.
Crossword is a in house brand for Aldi but the producer is different
Hi Gareth, i know you have no doubt been asked this countless times, but i rarely read comments. Could u tell me the make of the oven that you used, keep up the good work fella.
Sure can. Sage Airfryer multi cooker mate.
I phoned Pukka pies after finding a bit of steak in one of its pies and asked them if i had won a prize but unfortunately i was told it was a miSTEAK . 🤔
22% beef seems very low to me, but the price is ok i guess. Prefer more beef though.
Great review 👏
22% is the magic number. It's the average for ready meals and stuff like this slice.
@JonPaul1953 OK cool I didn't know that tbf mate
@@robertcreighton4635 No probs, fella. You're right though, it might be the average but it's still low.
@@JonPaul1953Can't be low if it's average. It's average, if it's average.
@@ziggarillo Of course it can. 22% is the average but 22% is also a low meat content. 75% could be an average, but 75% would be a high meat content.
I have two great little local sandwich shops near me and both do fantastic homemade steak slices. They are £1.90 but worlds apart from this ginsters/pukka et al. Packed full of tender beef and great tasting gravy. I never thought to weigh it, I might do now though just to see!
Sounds great!
Good price I would buy it nice as as a snack
Not much slippage Gareth, bit of hp would help 😅😅
