So veteran players who started in Gridania were attecked by slavering wolfs and a mad treant, and got to meet Yda, Papalymo, and the Moogles, those who started in Ul'dah dealt with a rampaging Goobue and met Thancred, F'lamihn, and the girl who would eventually become Minfillia, and those who started in Limsa Lominsa fought off a horde of aurelias, met Y'shtola, and saw A FUCKING PRIMAL BEFORE THEY EVEN KNEW THEY WERE A THING!? Lucky sods.
Oh how I love this opening more--along with the song, as if Hydaelyn is singing to us, hinting the start of our journey to becoming the warrior of light🥺
I like the meteor shower the players dreams before seeing the storm they are caught in. Makes me think the devil planned the road to Endwalker all those years ago.
Full fucking circle - starting our walk to the End right from the start. Jesus, the FFXIV dev team are rock stars, managing to pull that off out of the ruins of 1.0.
I remember when we were first greeted with this cinematic during the Alpha/Beta and before the launch. Everyone on the forums was so excited myself included!
I wonder if they even mention where most of these people in the ship's holding (in this video) are coming from. They look like standard Eorzeans to me. 😹

I'm pretty sure the rough concept of where the game was supposed to go had already been established back then. It just had to take a bit of a detour.
I can see what was meant by 1.0 being inconsistent. The cut scenes are beautiful but I imagine not being easy to maintain.

I think what surprised me most was the protagonist's grunt noises.
Every time I see anything from 1.0 (I started in 2015, so missed it), I get distracted by how loud the footsteps are.

The story scenes back then were so much better! Makes the newer version look like a cheap knockoff.

But good god, it ate the budget like chips. Each fin on that sea serpent was individually animated, which took more time and effort than was needed.
