This is weird, it's like a game I've never played which takes place in regions I've been to.
Its very similar looking to FFXI, the first MMO. You could mistake this landscape for Jueno in FFXI. Which was main town for a bit. Looks very similar.
@@randyflores3931 No, I haven't played FFXI. I have played the new FFXIV, which uses the same landscape and art assets but is essentially an entirely different game.
@@randyflores3931 Well that's because the people making the game didn't get the memo that they were not supposed to make a FF11 2 . . . . .while some did. It's why the races available were one galka tail away from being identical to 11's too. . ..And why some skills, spells and effects look like they came from FF11. It was a mess.
@@dangerwarg9682 The people making the game? I'm sorry that's on the directors, it's their job to direct to the right vision. If the rest of the people on the team did something, they were following their orders lol.
@@dangerwarg9682 FF11-2 would have been preferable.
I actually really dig how cinematic that intro was. The subtle voice acting and motion capture felt refreshing after playing to intro to ARR. I haven't played the expansions yet but am sorely missing atmospheric cutscenes from a FF game.
Yeah, until you realized the entire game had like 3 cutscenes because of how much time and effort they put into each one. Not sustainable in an MMO unfortunately. Have you got to the expansions yet? They really start to eat ARR for breakfast.
@Daniolaut Studio What the hell are you talking about? I've been playing 14 since the rancid beta. They added more cutscenes as time went on but at launch it was utterly pitiful.
@Daniolaut Studio Yes, the entirety of 1.0 As in, patch 1.0. Not up to patch 1.23b or whatever the final 1.0 patch was. There was an absolutely pathetic amount of cutscenes in 1.0. The fact that they added more later is fine and all, but at launch you basically got one boring ass story cutscene every 20 levels.
That's right, not only were there precious few cutscenes, hell, precious few quests, but they were boring as hell after the initial opening cutscene. It was a meandering mess of nothingness. And if you want quality over quantity, then Heavensward and Shadowbringers shit all over literally anything 1.0-1.23b (or c? I can't remember) ever brought to the table. Unless by quality you just meant animation quality, in which case, it's a shame they're not as nice and as unique as frequently as before, but that's how it goes, I guess.
@Daniolaut Studio Hey I never played ff 14 the first version but I will discuss it whenever and however I want. I will start by saying it looks like total dogshit. Basically like it was trying to be ff 11 part 2. Nobody wanted that and so nobody played it. This resulted in a mercy killing which served to enhance the truly brilliant game we have today.
Honestly arguing the original version is better is like arguing that cars you start by cranking them are better because you get a feeling of satisfaction from turning the crank.
I hope you enjoyed my opinion that I felt I wanted to share since you told people they shouldn't have an opinion that you don't like.
Besides if you really believed that you wouldn't have just critiqued Yoshida. How dare you? How many award winning mmos have you made that retain hundreds of thousands of players? You should refrain from having an opinion.
@Daniolaut Studio I mean.. you could be less condescending about it..
How in the world did they run dungeons with that combat system!? Mad respect for Meteor survivors...

This is really fascinating, I'm so glad people like you documented the 1.0 version for us to see all these years later!
The fact the end of days plot point existed back in 1.0 is super amazing
So everybody can be Warriors of Light as long as their PTSD flashback of the Final Days are triggered by Starshowers and "Hear... Feel... Think...", since every soul are reflections.
I just fell in love with a realm reborn, but never got to see how the original looked like. Thanks for the upload!
i was gonna buy it until everyone i knew completely and totally shitted all over it. but i kinda regret it tho'. would have been nice to be there at the ground floor and see it first hand
I’m glad you’re liking ARR! Stick with it because imo the expansions are 10x better than the base game
@@doubleclick4132 same situation, really wanted to try it but friends backed out, they back out of ARR too but I stayed this time lol.
I must say one thing they should bring back is the smooth movement from the cut scenes
? Can I get an explanation of this squeaking? I appreciate it.
Yeah the cut scenes were definitely a lot more smooth in terms in animation and even cinematic approach. Though they've been getting a lot better in recent patches, compared to ARR and the early expansions, but they could be a lot better.
the cutscenes are all motion captured for FF14 1.0 and that is why they look better than most of the cutscenes in a FF14 A Realm Reborn since that game uses stock animations for everything but I guess that is the price we paid to get the game out in like two and a half years.
Could you imagine starting as a Conjurer in Limsa Lominsa, and the only way to get class upgrades is to traverse the whole fucking realm? Hot damn 😅
@Daniolaut Studio Not true much though.
There are a ton of things you could try, however, they made some stuff simpler.
Still, FF XIV as we know it today, is now seen also as a very good alternative for World of Warcraft, so yes.
I did play FF11 in the past on the PS2 and later on PC, but that game was soooo sloowwwwww, and I ditched it for Aion Online.
Now I'm playing FF XIV for 4+ years already, and I wouldn't be playing it, if it was as on this video.
@Daniolaut Studio are you literally defending a game that had shit design and a really bad repeating open world that was empty for the most part?
I think 2.0 fix allot of it and made the game accessible to everyone to new and old players
Lol I had every class maxed out and job before 2.0 launched. It was easy to traverse with over 700 million Gil. But anyways, I hate the current 2.0 community.
I took 4 years off. And managed to complete 4 years of content in 7 weeks to get ready for 80 cap expansion. Managed to make my bard relic and Scholar relics before 80 cap launched. Just as I was about to get my final job Gunbreaker to 80. My account was banned for unknown reasons!
I wasn’t notified for any reason. And the funny thing was that I was playing on PS4. So anyways I guess there is no point to being too good at a game because someone will always be jealous and find a way to knock you down
@@jamesbennett8994 This sounds fake. I know no one can really prove you wrong here, but game companies really don't ban accounts for no reason - there would have been a reason given, no matter how shitty. The fact you didn't give us that makes me suspicious.
@@Ghoulicus lol it's incredibly fake. Anyone who claims their account was banned without a reason and doesn't mention contacting support to even attempt to get the ban appealed knows exactly what they did wrong to get banned and are just trying to get pity points. Also, the statement of completing "4 years of content in 7 weeks" is absolute horseshit without botting, and even with because there's just way too much content and downtime between queues to make that remotely possible. So, if I had to guess based on what the number 1 source of bans in XIV is and in correlation to these bold claims this James Bennett is making, they were most likely banned for botting and otherwise cheating.
I can't believe it's been ten years. I confess I have all but forgoten the game that 'once was' so thank you for this moment of nostalgia. Here's to many more years of Final Fantasy XIV. Stay safe. ♥
I miss all the adventures I had in 1.0 with the friends I made back then.
I gotta say, the start is gorgeous and exciting... but dat battle doe. WHAT EVEN?? So anti climatic.

Raymond Shades the music wasn’t even actioney at first also
I thought there just wasn’t a battle after the cinematic until I seen him in the distance
@Daniolaut Studio It is 100000x more engaging then this relic that was put out of it's misery for a good reason. I am grateful that it's death enhanced what we have now though.
@Daniolaut Studio Ah yes, Trusts. The system where you no longer have to deal with party queues when you just need to do story content. And standing back and watching while other people do things, a very intended and common use of trusts. Because it totally wasn't possible to get people to fight things for you under 1.0's mechanics or anything. I get that there were things about 1.0 that had some level of potential, but this is the dumbest argument in its favor I think I've ever seen.
I remember being in the beta for this. Most of us who were playing it didn't like a lot of the design decisions, and told them so. We spoke up, as you would expect, but it was either ignored or locked and removed from the forums. It wasn't until the game launched and nobody purchased the game that they started to take us seriously. They chose the right guy to overhaul it though. Cheers Yoshi P. for quite literally dragging this game out of the depths of the obscurity it was destined for and making it something we can love and enjoy.
Hmm one thing I like about 1.0 is how the cutscenes are all motion captured rather than using emotes from the game
Holy crap, I can't believe they changed it so much. This feels like a game from 2007
I think it was out in 2010
I always wondered why Version 1.0 was pulled..... Jesus it looks like it was made by a third party and not SE. So pleased A Realm Reborn was made.
A good portion or everyone who worked on the game got fired lmao.
Everything about this game was a lesson on exactly what not to do when making a game, let alone an MMO. All the technical decisions they made were right out of left field and they even tried justifying them.
This was a technical design team that were drinking their own kool-aid and were left unchecked for years.
I loved the graphics, the music, just the overall style was great. I really wish they would have gotten this version right. I hate 14 in its current state....well not hate but its just like every other theme park mmo.

Watching this reminds me how little I feel when I am in one of the major cities. There is very little of the touches they put into this scene to make it feel like you were entering a bustling city center filled with life and energy.
I actually had a lot of fun with 1.0. I like ARR better but 1.0 had it's charms. It had a _very_ mysterious atmosphere. The only things I really miss is it's music, which is infinitely better than ARR's(especially Limsa's theme), and movement which had a lot more weight to it.
The only thing I wish they kept was those slick walk cycles. The way you start slowly and stop slowly just looks a lot cooler than what we have now. But eh the new xiv is 100% better than what this was in every other way. Shout outs to yoshi p!
They changed animations because in the old game you had animation priority, so you were locked in animations a la Dark Souls. The simpler animations are like that so you can interrupt and change them without looking too jarring
@@MiloKuroshiro also the content they wanted to make would never have worked if they kept the old walk animations. So many things would have to be changed if they kept the walk cycles.
Everyone is hating on this, but to me, I like the nostalgic vibes the combat is giving me. I can't tell if it's turn based or not, but it's definitely more similar to a 'classic' FF game in terms of combat, which is cool in a nostalgic way. Don't get me wrong, the more modern action based combat is better, but I still like this.
It reminds me of FF12 combat a lot.
You can definitely see Final Fantasy XI's influence in this version
God I miss this game so much.
I still play 14 ( Legacy members represent!), but 1.0 was an entirely different game. I wish it was still around 😭

Twilight over thanalan was overworld music back then. Imagine that. Still the best track in XIV and it was overworld music. Used to just sit in thanalan, turn up my speakers and then read/relax to twilight over thanalan
It's pretty sad to see a realm that doesn't exist anymore.
FFXIV 1.0 really has a special place in my heart. When I hear the music and sound effects again, I'm thrown back in. Oh the nosalgia!
As someone started late Shadowbringers I've always been super interested in the history of this game.
People come and go, friendships and free companies die, but I always find myself coming back to 14. I honestly sometimes wish I started this early despite what a train wreck everyone says it was just to experience what I will never get to in current XIV
As someone who has played FFXIV since 1.0 and even FFXI for 6 years.. the change was needed. Imagine if this was the way FFXIV was in 2021.. the game would not appeal to all the people it has over the years! Im so glad this game has grown and changed and Im glad to be a part of that community and keep watching XIV grow! welcome to Eorzea everyone!
Im a big FF fan, but I’ve never played the online ones, and I’m really thinking about trying FF14. Just worried, cuz I get HIGHLY addicted to MMORPG games 😂

In hindsight, I wish I would've played the game when it first came out. I know it's a terrible game and a worse version of FFXI, but I want to experience that terribleness if that makes sense? Not to mention this also part of ARR canon and it kinda sucks imo that you can't essentially play it for yourself.
Well you can if you own a copy of the original game and don't download any of the updates. It will install the vanilla version of the game. But the only way to get the files is on disk since SE does not have the installation files for that old version of the game anymore.
@@Artimes. You would also need a way to play on a private server.
Exactly how i felt when looking up this video.
@@Artimes. No you can't. The server was close down because it has been bombarded by the bahamuth.
To describe how 1.0 was is also hard. Since the game play were change for many time in just 2 years it was online.
In beta, It has that stamina gauge that act like the classic ATB gauge that filled over time, But you can use any action at any time as long as you have enough stamina for that, The gauge doesn't have to be filled. This leads to the basic game play became button meshing to get any action cast as fast as it can, While there're pretty much nothing else.
On release, I forgot the order but I think they speed up the stamina gauge filling once, But that make the game even more button meshing. Then they remove the stamina gauge and replace with just each individual action cool down. The game play became a little bit more fluid as you have to rotate skill chain to maximize DPS while things are on cool down, This is a part of core mechanics of current version game-play but without global cool down back then. It may sounds good for not having global cool down but overall gameplay are much slower than current version with the global cool down due to server latency. I'll talk about it later, Let's just focus on battle for now.
Basically it's target based as same as now. But without any AOE sign on the floor. But I think those mechanics were already in game. Pugilist (monk) were having directional attack action, I remember some hidden mechanics like there's a mushroom around gridania that will puff up and if it has been hit while it's puff, It will does AOE poison around it, But if you wait for a while, It will back to normal state and you can button smashing again. But other than some specific case, Plus not much people notice it, Your position are quite meaningless. It seems like it has no reason to move around while fight. Also you move really slowly, walking speed with weapon drawn. And drawing, sheathing weapon make your character stop moving. Actually any action stop your character from moving. So, When new player complain that character were floating while they moving around doing action in 2.0, Keep in mind that this is much better than having those action lock you in place without any way to cancel it. Oh, And without jumping too. Any spell casting means you stuck to the ground for a while.
Later on, Yoshi'P became producer, He change things to be more align with current direction. Including the auto attack that make the battle feel like a fight even when we doesn't use any skill. (That make the mushroom puff above can't be avoid, And totally remove in 2.0) Many experimental things were made. And clearly, They listen to player. But there are some problem that couldn't solve if they still stay on the same game client. That's when they decide to make 2.0 and they even start the story line that actually leads to the calamity.
The problem that couldn't be solve is all about latency. Not just in combat. Every interaction you made with NPC. Talk to them, Active quest, Try to buy or sell stuff, Or even open your own inventory, All are server side. And it's really slow to respond. You attack monster, The action happen half second after you push (Or mesh) the button. You click on aetherite (Crystal) to active leavequest (yes, you have to be at the aetherite) you wait a couple second for it to respond to "each" of your click (call menu, select quest, select level, initiate the quest) Oh, And this reminds me that you don't have ability to teleport. You can just return to a crystal that you set as home. Traveling to other place can take up to an hour of walking. And the early version even have no chocobo. So yeah, Life was hard back then.
11 years later: The game is not the same, but in a very, very good way.
Imagine doing savage challenge with this gameplay
@Daniolaut Studio That's called tedium
@@Fediel No it's just different, when it comes to the core mechanics, the game will never ask much of that from you. You don't really have to handle tanking because it got streamlined, you don't need to handle mana ressources, because it got streamlined, there are not elemental weaknesses and ressistances because it got removed, status conditions don't play a role, when was the last time you used medica? Equipment is basically just glam with an item level number tied to it, I play this game for 3 Years now and I NEVER EVER looked at any stats, because there is no reason why I should, there is no variety, no choice nothing you have to play right, but instead just a bunch of dodging mechanics which avoid the existing core systems instead of complement it. Doing your role is no challenge just remembering & executig a bunch or arbitrary mechanics which you could implement in any singleplayer game too (where it would be bad design)
Every class plays the same to large degrees, what's the point of 20 classes when you just change outfits and animations?
The same goes for crafting, there is no sense in crafting until you reach the maximum level.
You can gain routine by buying stuff from vendors and giving it to NPC's, so you level crafting by not crafting oh the irony...
There are still good points to FFXIV but this overly attached fanbase with its infinite praise, failing to see any of the shortcoming this game has, is just getting on my nerve. You simply can't see that the original FFXIV had an completely different design approach it was designed to an different audience. While the "new" FFXIV is simply designed no one specifically, which is why it feels so shallow in so many departments.
It's funny how many people write that the old one was an inferior game, like you have some sort of complex that something in the back of your mind makes you realize that the old final fantasy XIV had clear benefits which were gone forever and out fear losing appreciation for the original (since to many people it has become their meaning of free time) you simply shittalk it undeservedly for feeling better, that's a classic coping mechanism.
I liked the old version better... The song ; ; brings back memories.
@@Ageleszly This is a person who has clearly never done savage or ultimate content.
@@teemopanda02 I did some savage content, don't get me wrong but I don't feel incentified playing these since they have no new content asides from ocassionaly a new phase (but they aren't canon) doesn't feel that compelling just playing a "song" of an minstrel.
But I did all the Bahamut raids synched because this is the sole exception in the game. (and I had a blast with it)
But even savage encounters feel a bit artifical since you don't utilize really your ability pool, I still prefer how raids are made in WoW Classic even if they are easier, each class has their own purpose their and it plays greatly with your ability pool, dispelling, curing, discursing, mind-sight all of it has utility they don't need to invent one time mechanics for certain encounters so it feels more organically and RPG-like fighting special boss encounters.
whatever people say about this game, I have strong nostalgia for 1.0, it had its charm... I even miss it in a way.
I only wished they would've kept more of this game's music. It was fantastic!
Damn, the cinematics have some sauce! ARR could seriously take some notes.
I've been playing FFXIV for 3 years now, I used to watch my dad play 1.0 when I was younger, and I watched him play FFXI for so many years that I've lost count. I may be 9 years late, but for it's time this game looked really good. I love the game nowadays, but this video makes me tear up for some reason. Thank you for posting.

It's crazy how from then to now, they've made the gameplay SO much better, but the cutscenes SO much worse.
The new team had to commentate for PS3 players since this version 1.0 couldn't even play in the system (they offer it before). So really, SE is to blame for offering it for PS in general.

I didn't know you could choose which city to start out in in the original. In ARR, the job you choose decides where you start out.
Hey, would you mind if I used footage from this video in a video of my own?
I would credit u of course
Got curious to see what the original looked like, have to say that the animations feel so good and active for the cutscenes, wish they continued to be so in FFXIV ARR since they feel so goddamn static for the most part, thinking back, I even remember when I first met Thancred, what was meant to be this epic felt really meh in there.
Another thing I found interesting were the meteors at the beginning, I think they should've kept it especially with what's happening in Shadowbringers, would make total sense as a prelude.
The gameplay though, anti-climatic and just really, really bad, glad that part was definitely reworked!
after playing realm reborn for years I decided to have a look at how bad this could have been...and holy fucking shit it was bad
So great to see this documented. Having recently tried XI for the first time, I can distinctly see how this version of 14 was a direct link between XI and the version of 14 the world currently knows. The modern 14 honestly feels like such a leap from XI that it is a bit jarring, but seeing this version of 14 makes the bridge between the two make more sense.
Ah the good ole times... I remember playing the original beta for this
love the sound design even that time
I pity the graphic designers of this game. They worked so hard to make it look beautiful only to have it ruined by poor gameplay mechanics. :'(
Good thing they went with making it like WoW so it could be more successful.
@Daniolaut Studio The tomestone system is in no way shape or form the same as the experience points fatigue system. The fatigue system prevented you from leveling up. The tomestone system is only used to acquire gear, and even then, savage raiding and crafting can provide you with better (raiding) or gear with equivalent stats (crafting). That's a straight-up false equivalene.
i'm so glad they redid this game but i still wish i could have tried the original. ah, oh well. back then my pc at the time would have NEVER ran it.
Masayoshi Soken is really good at battle music, but damn, Uematsu is great at EVERYTHING. The music was pretty awesome.
I can see all the things that are better now, but there are a LOT of things that were better then that noone talks about. I think crystal tools engine would agree with todays tech much better, it definitely looked amazing. I feel the music was a bit more on point also.
Definitifely I love the music that plays in Thalanan, I know it still exists in the game but not for free roaming. In the long end I think 1.0 had better qualities as an MMO, but of course it couldn't sustain itself, Yoshi P layed the business plan out so that the game can have a future, but at the same time a lot of qualities of the old engine had to be scrapped too.
That battle music do be pretty tight ngl
Such a huge improvement in the game since this video was posted. I see what they were trying to go for, but I don't think they understood at the time that it wouldn't have translated well into MMO mechanics.
as a single player it would have been pretty innovative but like you said as a MMO it was terrible not saying it would have made a good single player either it is what it is and its not that great xD however A realm reborn is amazing currently playing it and im addicted lol
ffxi is a good game though, and 1.0 was basically that.
i think they should've adapted 1.0 instead of scrapping everything, since this is still good to this day. If you want fast paced mmos, go play WoW or its clones.
Firion Salamand: I huge, HUGE problem with the original was that its graphics engine was just to hefty. Nobody's PCs could play it well, even the highest end. That and the lag made it a drag, let alone all the other problems the game had.
as someone who plays XI, this looked horrible in comparison. It's like they tried to make a more modernized XI but had no idea what made XI good.
So you would say the cutscenes were improved? Or that the World is disconnected now? 1.0 had a much different design approach and was never meant to be that simplistic game it is now.
This was pretty much FFXI-2 in many ways, it's crazy how THIS is what we got back then, and god does shows how badly that thing ran, it was crazy good looking for its time.
I played this version briefly. Came back a few times as they started making changes. Thing I remember that I miss the most was the hair physics, lol. My Roegadyn's mop of hair swayed nicely as he ran. The combat was painful though. Really glad they managed to turn it around.
I'm another one of those people who play FFXIV: ARR and just wanted to see what was so bad about the original. I gotta say, graphics-wise, this game looks top notch, especially considering it was released some 3 years ago.
The game isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It seems the main reason they pulled the game and remade it was to breathe some life into the game if that makes sense. Everything about this game just yells "bland and boring" to me. The environments, the GUI/HUD, the combat system, all seem dull and lifeless.
One of the major problems was that this is a game released in 2011, looking like a PS2 game, which required a fuck ton of a monster PC to even run acceptable. The video itself looks like it's running at 30 fps, an absolute shitshow.
how are the graphics top notch? the art style is fucking awful and the textures use every shade of brown they could find. It's an incredibly ugly game, it's like someone is desperately trying to remake XI in 2010, oh wait
iManiac I swear the 1.0 interface had to have been designed by the same people who designed the PlayOnline shit because it looks almost exactly the same
The game's recommended requirements were top-tier GPU and CPU for getting maybe 30-40 fps on it all for a game that was FFXI 2.0
I kind of like the videos "grim" and realistic look. It makes being in the world feel more dangerous and not all "bluffy bluff" it currently seems to be in FFXIV. It reminds me much more from previous ffXI, which had also this type of charachter and enviroment look. Too bad always in democracy the biggest playergroup wins and sometimes something beautiful will be lost.. I have no interest in FFXIV but could try this first version anyday.
I remember playing both the alpha and the beta of the game. Even had a free month of the game. Only spend like two days on it and quit. The beta looked better than what was given to us. So glad they got most, if not all, of the original FFXI team to completely remake it.
Honestly that intro cutscene was pretty cool
story and presentation wise the intro of this game is so much better than that of 2.0!
This was modeled after FF11 . It wasnt bad, and it wasnt for everyone .
To bad the team made the game unreadable on pcs I would of loved it if the game was still around :(
@future kitsune the only server i could find are the seventh umbral but that's just a walk around server
It feels like this video is from an alternate dimension, so much is familiar yet so much different
im glad their are still little time capsules like this around on youtube
Already a minute in and I’m trying not to cry because of the song Answers playing in the background while watching something we can no longer experience/play
My nerd heart can’t handle this qwq
gosh, I love the walking animation so much, I wish they would bring that back at least
god i remember every second of starting in uldah back then, the game was terrible lol thank god for remake
I played Alpha the Chocobo's were call horse birds on the map they subcontracted a lot of the work

Cutscene: the big brute of a monster rawring and threatens the citizens... its total chaos and you the hero needs to take the foul beast down:
the beast just casually stand there minding its own business' and ppl around is just standing there some are walking.
Saddest part was that in the first month of release, none of us expected the servers to go down. I just remember thinking, "wow another free month? cool.", i swear i played 1.0 for free for months because the devs were constantly apologizing.
God I miss the old version (version towards the end). Id still be playing it now. I know ppl didnt like it, but it was just so unique. I really wish they would have gotten it right. I wanted it to be like an updated FF11. The theme park mmos these days, im just so over them. They all had to copy WoWs model.
This is SUCH a throwback.
I honestly like the look of this version. It’s different in a good way compared to ARR
Look at those movement animations. Lovely.
It’s so surreal seeing the game on what it could have been compared to how it is now.
This popped up on my feed. Sooooo good!!
Thanks for doing this!! The game changed so much. It's hilarious when the goobbue combat started and the NPCs were facing the wrong direction daydreaming xD
So many memories, I remember playing this in the beta. The atmosphere was quite amazing and it was cool to play with friends. Pity that indeed none of our PCs could run it properly so we were playing at 1024x768...
The new Final Fantasy XIV does look a *lot* better. I'm going to change the description of this video to point that out.
Ah the nostalgia!! This video aged well.
September 2010 is when the game came out . . .
I didn’t start the game till 2.0 I believe. Crazy to believe this was FFXIV. I find it really fascinating and exciting how much the game had changed throughout the years.
i would have liked ARR more if there was more voice acting
Wow...this really was pretty bare bones compared to what we got with Realm Reborn. But I am interested in seeing parts of the old series because there is so much credit to be giving to SquareEnix in that they did not just scrap this, but that they actually wove the old game's 'demise' INTO the story of the 'reboot'. So I want to know more about the old game to get more context to the new game. What was Eorzea the place like before the Calamity? What were things like before the Alliance? Questions like that.
The sound design in 1.0 was epic
this was recommended and i'm glad it was, 2.0 player here
I wish they had the option to have the UI look like this. I love the classic style. I know they have the classic menu now which I use but I want the health bar and stuff to look classic too
Watching this in 2021 and damn I never saw ffxiv 10 years ago, it feel so nostalgic even if I play since 2 years, thanks
man this patch 1.0 brings old feelings i locked away
i cant believe it's the game i play now in 2021, i love it .
Man I remember trying this out.
Can't remember what class I picked but I remember doing like 4 quests and then no more being available.
I think I ended up wandering around higher level areas than I was supposed to.
I likely was just missing out on where the quest givers were but still, I gave up after several days 😂
Only good thing is the stop animations, rather than a quick unrealistic pause.
Glad they made the dialogue more interesting
Nice naming convention. I'm a fan of both FF and PKD
Idk if its just me but with how the cutscene played out and the slow pace of the combat, it looked as though it was supposed to be a single player game but was switched to an MMO last minute
I'd do anything to buy these old soundpacks and that old teleport in
I know they said 1.0 was open world (which is often the thing i personally dislike most with realm reborn+ that it's instances areas (and general lack of voice over work).
But the cutscenes thou! they're actually animated instead of combination of "go to XX:YY coordinates" and emotes. and a lot more camerawork too. i know for realm reborn they were on a tight time schedule but it just seems odd to me they very, very rarely use any of those tools for any content since.
I can kind of see what they were going for with the combat, a artistic or cinematic approach especially with the angle that's both dynamic and puts any effects front and center.. but it really doesn't look fun to play which is quite important (The again low lvl in the new iteration is not particularly fun either so maybe i should find some high level footage to compare).
ARR is like that with the cutscenes emotes but the expansions are much more expressive, shadowbringers being an even bigger cutscenes quality change
This is gone forever now, I really like seeing that the original intent was good but the new version definitely makes this vision playable.
I hope to see a private server some day with this version of the game, for those of us who didn't get to feel the experience.
Does the game pause when you select an action. Similar to a turn based game? That's kind of cool, if you were taken to a separate screen when you enter a battle. Your party members lined up, each person given a turn to perform an action. Each action matters. Smaller dungeons with a camera moving along a path like in FF10. Pvp would be awesome.
Main issue with current mmos is that huge amount of time is wasted running from quest giver to quest giver. Collecting flowers or something. With smaller dungeons and random turn based battles you wouldn't even need to grab quests to level up. You could just travel through dungeons with your party, nice cutscenes at the start and end of each one.
In a parallel universe 1.0 became a huge success.
oh wow this is sooooo old, i remember this lol back when there was a Rank & Level
sweet!, Goobbues are on here too, can't wait to start farming tree cuttings and boyahda moss.
Wow, how far it has come.
Now I remember why I didn't pay it when it was first released!
wow this is soooooooooooo bad, loving realm reborn though, the producer is worth every penny imo ;p
Its crazy how the cutscenes looked genuinely fantastic, and then the gameplay is just........... a complete trash fire. I do wish cutscenes in FF14 looked more like how they did in 1.0, but I have to imagine that was partly why 1.0 was so bad, pouring resources into the wrong places.
Night over thanalan. I spent 1.5m gil for this orchestrion to fulfil my nostalgia and it worth every gil.
Cutscenes look's so much better in 1.0....
Because it was all mocaped. I miss it..not gonna lie.
