      I believe that's the reason her husband married her. He fell in love with her and had an affair because probably his family would have disapproved of him to break up with his girlfriend.
      But as soon as she got pregnant, he left her gf for her. It wasn't even because it was the right thing to do. He genuinely loved her and wanted any excuse to be with her.
      And he also didn't want to marry his stuck up ex girlfriend.

Celia had no problem about “harvesting” the meat chickens, endured multiple miscarriages, and, in the book, fought off an intruder. Minnie and Celia deeply cared for each other. I think the best part of Mr. Johnny’s character is that (until the ending) Minnie genuinely thinks he’ll kill her if he catches her there, and Cel not confirming or denying that suspected behaviour caused us viewers to worry about how Johnny would react, too. Especially with Cel’s lines of “Johnny wants kids now,” and “Johnny doesn’t know about the baby, or the two before..” it really made him seem to be a stereotypical 1940’s husband.
      Only for him to be revealed as one of the coolest and most compassionate guys of the film, that he knew about Minnie all along and didn’t care one bit because he noticed how much happier Celia was. 😭❤️

    Forever a fan of Jessica because of this movie and I read that Jessica forced the producers to give Octavia a raise in their next movie. (It's ironic that they didn't pay the black actresses as much as the white ones and still don't)
    Octavia got the Oscar and Jessica was also nominated and nobody cheered more and they remain friends to this day.
    What a woman.

      @@hollyjlrs the first part of your statement is not proof or even a suggestion of the second part being true.
      My statement was about correlation not causation (and of course irony). But for the record Hollywood always under pay domestic in movies. Domestics have a much higher tendency to be played by actresses of color. But in this movie the point was to feature the perspective of the domestics to show them as not worthless but apparently as just WORTH LESS.
      But thank you for your opinion on the matter.
      Once again thanks to Jessica for standing up for her friend.

    • @mespb
      @mespb 3 місяці тому +41

      I don’t think she negotiated it for this movie, because they didn’t quite know eachother, but for another movie. She ended up making 5 times what they offered and insisted that they make the same amount of money according to Octavia.

      @randykincy7954 3 місяці тому +20

      @@jaypadiaI’m not sure……there were three actresses nominated for Oscars from this movie. I’d say Chastain and Spencer are probably even. Viola Davis might be ranked slightly above them. Spencer probably gets more roles than the other two, but Davis and Chastain tackle more emotionally taxing roles. Spencer reminds me of Kathy Bates. She effortlessly handles the heavy stuff but doesn’t shy away from more light hearted roles.

Heck sometimes women still get attacked now say we can’t do this or you need to work all a lot money of a nasty man’s world and get yelled at bosses and we still have nasty racist people on earth even online and be immature and use laughing emoji and some plays sims like sims 4 . It’s still scary in the world. I heard there racist people in Canada but to me I believe American white peoples keep going to Canada living there that could be racist and have kids there which it’s not good cause they are trump supporters and people that’s good people not racist tithe bad ones brain washing them to vote for that evil man which he’s trying to get back in office which it’s really bad and there is a reason why I said this .

      and we are the only ones to praise her. all the others cast her out because she was different. she wouldn't have fit in anyway. Most ppl like her have no friends, become isolated with their loved ones, I'm one of them and I relate to her so much, never had a maid, but I'd had similar happenings. She's the reason this is one of my fave movies ever!❤

    Two of my favorite actors. They never disappoint in all their roles! Celia Foote always reminds me alot of a southern style Marilyn Monroe, so sweet, kind, beautiful and vulnerable. Jessica Chastain is amazing. Octavia steals the movie as well she deserves!

    Jessica Chastain is freaking amazing as an actress. Of course, Octavia Spencer is also freaking amazing, which is why she won the Oscar for this. I just love all the brilliant performances of this film, and I loved reading the book before I saw the film. Both were awesome! Read the book if you haven’t. :-)
